Last week a friend and I decide that I need to let my hair go gray. There is a wig shop a few miles away from my home and we decide to go there. There is a sign on a very busy street saying there is a huge wig sale and walk-ins welcome. The sign on the door says open. We go in and there is a man at the front desk and woman standing there and she welcomes us in.
We tell her why we're there and she immediately pushes back and says that "if we're there to just try on wigs' it's not that kind of place. Yet this lady wants to show us around her 3,000 square foot shop. She proceeds to tell us that she's not really open, she's just waiting for the uPS man. However, she'll do a quick consult and let me see a wig. I did not get to try one on. She just held up one to my head and told me that that's what my natural hair would look like. (I have plenty of years to go before I'm totally gray) We go sit in a chair and she goes through my hair and goes to get a wig. All the while she tells me that they are a 'hair restoration salon" and consultations are $35. After about 15 or 20 minutes or so, and the lady giving some hair education, we decide to leave. As she walked us around the salon, telling us what the do there, all of a sudden, the consultation fee is $50.
I'm tired and don't really feel like finishing this review. Here's what I will tell you. Don't have a sign on the street that says come in if you really aren't open and really don't want people coming in. Also, you may want to be consistent with your prices. It was a weird experience, for sure.
I can speak for both of us in saying that we did not feel welcome at all. I'll probably never be a client. read more
