Across the street from Big City cawfee, is this most random of little stores. Until last Sunday, I didn't even know this place existed. Located in the Linen District is this quaint little place that sells and celebrates the theater. I've never been a theater person, but this place is a wonderful spot for all you's who love anything that has to do with the theater. Yes, it's mostly clothing items, few canes, feather boas for you fabulous drag queens out there or straight girls who love them some gay men and drag queens! I'm gay....so get at me ladies! But not before the men! Ok? Hahahaha! Jk. Ok, this place is one of "Boise's best kept secrets" It really is a magical little place. I wanted to buy a slouchy beanie, but it was like $40. That was a little steep for me, but..honestly, I'm still tempted to go and get it. Prices vary here. But overall, I think their product is perfectly priced for each item and especially for a place located downtown...where dem rents can be crazy high. If you haven't checked this special little store out, WTF U WAITING FO?!? haha! Even if you're 1) straight and 2) not a theater person, I guarantee you'd still love this store. They literally have something for everyone. If you go in and bitch that you don't wanna be there or that you can't find something you like....are you even a human? This place is awesome! Love the funky crazy at Crazy Neighbor! This is always a "must visit" when I'm in the area where the haberdashery within the front entrance is always styled in a smart, sophisticated way. I've had great experiences in the past with the salespeople being incredibly helpful in my pursuit of finding just the correct makeup for the photo shoot project I was working on at the time. They proved to be more than knowledgeable about their full line of Ben Nye makeup which has to be the most cohesive in the valley (my theater friends will understand EXACTLY what I'm talking about). Yes I've had mixed service in the past but overall I'm just thrilled that a place so full of character lives in Boise, Idaho. Wigs for days, costume jewellery, organized and sensible with a sense of whimsy. I'm a fan and I'll keep coming back and I hope you till too! read more

It is rare to be treated as poorly, rudely, or snobbishly as I was today in this store. I was fully ignored while looking at hats, as was my daughter and girlfriend. We ended up buying a hat with virtually no assistance from the woman who was wandering around the store. When I walked up to pay for the hat we purchased, she turned her back to me and motioned dismissively with her head that the other woman would help me and walked away. We were not thanked for our purchase which is no surprise when you see their lovely sign indicating that all purchases are final. The only reason I spent a dime there was that my daughter really wanted the hat she found. Sadly, Boise needs a store like this which has the potential to be cool and offer wares that are unavailable elsewhere but I doubt that they will last long enough to figure out that the people coming through the door with money are the ones who will keep them going. I rarely write reviews this negative and yet I also rarely walk out of a store so irritated that I feel compelled to do so. I hope they figure out the value of service at some point. read more

I was SO happy to find this store. The hats alone stole my heart. I want to buy everything I see! The staff was incredibly helpful when I told them what I was looking for. The first sales clerk that was helping me said she didn't have as much experience in what I needed and asked for help (I really appreciated that honesty because I hate when people try to fake it, I really needed educated advice) the lady that she called over really knew her stuff and even remembered me from the phone call I had placed earlier. She got me everything I needed. They even offered me recommendations of where to grab lunch downtown. I wasn't sure what I getting myself into when I first walked in the door, but I was pleasantly surprised with the products and awesome customer service! This place if full of all kinds of stylish accessories, hats, and make up, and they have new stuff every time I come in. The people are super here are super helpful when I'm looking for something specific, or great with suggesting new things. They lady even showed me how to tie a bow tie, which is something I've always been interested in but was intimidated by. Oh! And the prices are surprisingly affordable! What!??!? read more

I loved my first time at the Crazy Neighbor! ;) I felt like I was visiting a dear friend that happened to have a spectacular selection of treasures available for me to purchase, even the prices made me believe I was getting the 'friends and family' discount. I have been in here a few times and was going to review the first time I went in, but then life happened. I really loved the place... still do for the most part. This shop is filled with an interesting assortment of women's and men's accessories ranging from hats and clothes to wigs, make up and prop items. We first went in around Halloween the year before last (that whole life thing, but hey at least I am getting around to it!) and found some fox ears and tail for me and a spiffy bowler hat for my boyfriend. Both were reasonable in price. A friend had come with us, looking for some kind of makeup for dressing up and the lady behind the counter was super helpful and friendly. Then, this last Halloween we went back again and got some things and had a similar experience. Based on all of this, I would have given them a 5. We have been in a few times since then, three times this year alone. We have only bought things once, the other two times the service was weird. One time the lady behind the counter basically ignored us the entire time. I chalked it up to maybe it was a bad day or something. Then, we went in again and the service was off again. No one was rude or anything, it was just a stark contrast from the other occasions that we had been in the shop. Both times I told my boyfriend that I didn't want to buy anything and we left. I didn't feel comfortable, kind of like maybe I didn't belong in there or something. I guess you could say we were uninspired? In any case, we did end up going back in recently for another hat. They do have a nice selection and I had noted that each time we had been in there more recently, you could tell that they had gotten in new inventory. I figured that chances were that they would at least have what we were looking for, even if they didn't talk to us. Hey, they'd have to if we were paying for something ;) This last time that we were in it was a positive experience. I joked that perhaps the service is better when we are going in with a definite idea in mind of what we are looking to buy, because the two times we went in to browse we had blah experiences. All of the times that we went to buy, it was super good. So, in the end, I'm going to chalk it up to maybe they had a person behind the counter that was snobbish and maybe she doesn't work there anymore? Maybe it was the same lady all the times. It's not like I got a name or remember them specifically. In either case, more times than not we have liked going into this place and have found pretty much what we were looking for. I can see negative reviews on here about the staff being snobbish or rude, and I can see how it could come off like that on the couple of occasions where we were ignored. Thinking of it, on both of those times I was just in lounge clothes. The other times, when I had great service, I was either dressed up and stopped in before heading to a party or right before a date night. This could be my own issue though - so I don't know? You decide? I think that ultimately, this is kind of a posh sort of shop. The staff is usually dressed in an upscale casual way and the selection of items that they sell... I could see how it could be a cliquish crowd. That being said, you're coming in here for upscale hats, costume or hipster jewelry, stockings, stage makeup and this kind of thing. I don't think that their behavior is out of the norm if you take that into stock. I gave em 4 stars, which shows I'm a fan. read more

Came in with my mom and were immediately treated like suspected shoplifters. Furthermore, everything was overpriced and imported from Asia.. I bumped my head on a low hanging branch 'decoration' and was treated by staff as though I was trying to knock it down. This employee went on to mock my height (I'm 6'0") in front of the entire store. Wow. Certainly will not be back and do not recommend this store to anyone. Save your money and shop someplace where the staff treats customers with dignity. read more

RUDE! I had read the other Yelp reviews before going to Crazy Neighbor today, so I knew that the workers were selective about who they were nice to. We began looking at some merchandise (after not being greeted when we entered) and the one employee was talking to another customer. She stopped mid-sentence to stare and ensure us low-life were not shop-lifting There was a cute hat that caught our eye that we had to buy. Crazy Neighbor is THE place to go, to get all your accessories when it comes to a costume. They have so many wigs, and great quality ones at that. I purchased makeup to go with my costume for the Fat Tire bike ride. The staff explained how to apply it with a special spray to mix with it, so that it would stay on all day, even in the extreme Boise heat in August. It worked beautifully. They have stuff I've never seen before. I've bought wigs, stockings. Its the place where you will find that one thing to make your costume perfect! i LOVE it. read more

Great new "jewel box" of a store in the Linen District in Boise, and wow, what a wonderful collection of merchandise! They've got the most unique and cutest purses in town - plus wigs and jewelry and makeup and lots of other great stuff. It's much bigger inside than it appears from the outside, and I loved the fabulous collection of hats that greet you when you walk in the door.
