I am updating my review of A Private Affair in Thousand Oaks, and I still give it a 5-star rating; it's fantastic! The owner, Linda Brafford, truly goes out of her way to enhance the experience. She is charming and really takes the time to ensure you find the perfect fit. I have never left the store feeling unsatisfied. I would never order a prosthesis or bras anywhere else. The store is delightful, featuring a wonderful collection of bras and swimsuits. The prices are reasonable for the beautiful products you receive. If Linda doesn't have a product in stock, she will gladly order it for you. She is a lovely and competent human being. Linda's assistant, Diane, is also very helpful and friendly. I would never consider shopping anywhere else; I even followed Linda when she was in the Valley. I highly recommend A Private Affair because I don't think you will find a better store anywhere else. read more

I did not have a terrible experience, but it wasn't good either. I was reffered to see Linda, Linda specifically as she has worked with my referral friend for decades. She always had great things to say about Linda, and her service and why it was worth it to drive out to see her. I planned this trip more than a week in advance because it's rather out of the way for me. When I arrived, there was another woman there. She had long dark hair. She was doing some office work and seemed perturbed we came in to shop which was perplexing to me from the jump. She asked what we were there for. I responded with the obvious, as it seems to be all they sell there- a fitting & a bra. She got up with an annoyed sounding "oookay..." and this made me immedietly uncomfortable. She didn't sound confident or like she knew what she was doing. Not like the way my referral had described Linda's positive, knowledgable, and excited demeanor. So I asked her if she was who was normally there. I thought, oh maybe Linda isn't here and this woman is new. That was the clear vibe given off. When she said "Oh, that's Linda" I responded "Oh! That's who I'm here to see". She replied "So... did you want me to go get her," and I looked at my friend like, what? I replied "Yes, that's who I was reffered to see. My refferee's name is..." and she just stared at me before going to get Linda. Mind, this store is small. I can hear what she says to Linda. In a patronising tone, she says "There's a young woman here. She's *asking* for *you*." I look at my friend again and ask, "Are they being weird?" My friend responds yes, this is rude. It's very clear neither of them wanted to help me. But, I need the bras and I don't want to buy from someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Linda does come out, and does a fantastic job- but only after she makes a, frankly, snide comment about how the other woman (I'm sorry, I really can't remember her name!) is perfectly qualified and could have helped me, instead. She also seemed to not recognize the name I provided as a refferal, which is understandable as she's been in business for years, but the "Um, okay..." response was uncalled for, in my opinion. I shop, try on the several great options she brings me, find what I need as quickly as possible, and go to check out. Once we began trying things on, the attitude did ease up and there were no more weird comments. Linda is great at what she does and she did help me find exactly what I was looking for and taught me about the life of bras, and again, once she seemingly finished being irritated that I requested her, was very nice. This is exactly why I wanted to work with her. All in all, I do reccomend coming here. They're quality products and she is very knowledgable. Perhaps I just caught them on a bad day. But, my friend said that the one with the long hair was shaking her head and rolling her eyes while I was trying on items. Presumably, because I had requested to work with Linda. Listen, I worked in customer service for years. There are numerous reasons someone would want to work with a specific person. People could have trauma issues, all sorts of things. In my case, I was reffered to Linda by name. So naturally, I was looking to work with her. As a retail employee, I'd never be offended that someone wanted my expertise and I'd never show it if I was annoyed. Personally, I'm not sure if I'll shop here again. It really made me feel uncomfortable. And, it's a high price point to have an invalidating shopping experience. If I do come back, it will ONLY be with my referree. I'd be interested to see if the experience changes. read more

Today was my first visit to A Private Affair. I have been to many shops that carry mastectomy prosthetics and bras. Every other shop made me feel uncomfortable and odd. Linda at A Private Affair was welcoming, warm, understanding and gracious. We chatted and laughed all the while she was measuring and helping me make decisions. I have to say it was a pleasure working with Linda. She is so knowledgeable and efficient and pleasant. I live in Woodland Hills and it was worth the drive to go to A Private Affair. My daughter is plus sized and could not find a quality bra or any bra out there. We decided to try this shop and left so happy!! Linda is a wonderful small business owner. She took the utmost care in fitting Allie. She actually sewed one of the bras to make a minor adjustment. We will go back for sure! WOW, I was in dire need of finding a bra that fit, didn't look frumpy, and could provide the support I so badly needed. I did a Yelp search and found A Private Affair, called, made an appointment, and SO GLAD I DID. Red carpet service and Linda is so knowledgeable and patient. When I put on "the bra", she had me look in the mirror with my top back on and I cried. I couldn't believe the difference in the feel and look of the right bra. If you need a proper fitting bra, look no further. Also, the vast selection in this shop was incredible. She had bathing suits too, I am just not there yet. I love supporting a local small business. Linda is a wonderful lady, so happy I found her. I found this delightful shop while looking for bras that fit properly. When I walked in the door it felt like home. Linda and Kimberly are tremendous. This selection of bras is beyond compare. The customer service is off the hook. They are friendly kind and patient. Not to mention extremely funny ladies. You will not find a better selection anywhere. So often off the rack bras are never the right size. Kimberly will take you to another place and you'll realize that the bra you have been wearing all your life is the wrong size. My wife and I brought our 12 year old daughter into the store for her first"real" bra and the owner of the shop was fantastic. She sized her and had her in two perfect bras in no time. I LOVE THIS BRA SHOP! I have been coming here for about 6 years and I have never been disappointed in terms of service or quality of their bras. If you tell them what you are looking for they magically find you the bra you never thought to be possible. Though they do carry size A-C they specialize in larger bra sizes, breast prostheses, masectomy bras, larger nursing bras, and fittings. Amazingly they even have sexy attractive bras for women with larger breasts that STILL give support AND comfort. They even turned me on to my favorite everyday bra - the Lunaire Versailles and several fantastic sports bras that give AMAZING support (your breasts will not jiggle while you wiggle in these bras..). Another 5 stars for this great establishment. The owner, Linda helped me through the process, starting with the best measurement/fitting I've had at any lingerie or bra shop. I left with four bras, including the best sports bra evah (no more "uniboob!";). I was able to visit the store on a weekday, so there was only one other patron in the store during my time. I definitely won't be returning to any large department stores or a certain, well-known chain store with the initials, "V.S." after checking out A Private Affair. First of all-- this place can be hard to find. I am new in the area, and Thousand Oaks Blvd can be a very busy street. So finding this store was quite a confusing and frustrating trip for me. Tip for other non-locals: It's next to a Ruby's restaurant. Anyways, this place can get busy!! I arrived today, on a Saturday afternoon. There was only one saleslady working. They definitely need to hire help for the weekends! I only waited about 10 minutes to be fitted, so in the meantime I perused the store. There were bras, some undies, lots of shapewear (woohoo Spanx!), also bathing suits and some old-lady pajamas. After I arrived, about 5 more women arrived after me. I was attended to first since I arrived before them, however I was concerned that the saleslady would become rushed and not tend to me. Thankfully this did not occur, as she continued to check in on me and the other ladies. I did have to take my shirt off (but not my bra) for a quick measurement around chest (below the boobies). Her first guesstimate was correct! I was happy to find bra's here at a reasonable price (around $40). In the future, I will come here for more bra's...perhaps on a week night, where I may receive more attention and feel less pressured. Although the SA didn't rush me, I knew other ladies were waiting to try on bra's in my fitting room so I rather rushed myself. Also, beware-- your real bra size may surprise you!! read more

My sister in law and I have been coming here for the last 4 years. I can honestly say the bras I bought FOUR years ago from here are still the best ones I have ever had. I still use them to this day. Kinda is so very sweet. she measures you and asks for the type of fitting you're looking for. She brings options, assists with fittings, and answers all your questions patiently. Sweet mother of Mary, I have huge knockers! Erm, ahem, well, sometimes they even shock me in size, but to the lovely ladies at A Private Affair, they've seen it all, and are more than happy to supply me with not only comfortable, proper fitting bras, but sexy, not so straight jackety ones for my robust DDD/E size. They offer a sweet selection of varied brands and sizes, and even lingerie. The staff is kind and understanding, but firm in making sure that you are getting the bra that both supports you properly and makes you look good. Linda, one of the owners, is often on hand to help out. They have sales at least once a season (like 2 for 1!!!), and if you buy a bra you just can't live without and then the manufacturer stops making it, don't worry, they'll even help to adjust and sew your bra to fit you again, or customize it when you buy it for that perfect fit. The lady who helped me was wonderful. she must have brought me 20 bras to try on. I couldnt believe the size I am now wearing. She's probably been my longest business relationship of which I can say nothing but nice things. I had a radical mastectomy in 1972 and have problems with fitting. I am a Cancer survivor and the big chain stores have teenyboppers who degradingly refer to a person as "Sweetie - Honey - dearie, etc. and you can see the pity on their faces when they know I need a prosthesis. I was about to give just two stars, but the service really is pretty good. I've been here several times over the last couple of years, usually pregnant or nursing each time. They are great about measuring you and have good selection, although whoo, the prices make my husband sweat. However, each time I've been measured for nursing bras, I end up with super expensive bras with bands too big for what I need, and I can't return them. Now, I know I've already worn the bras, so I understand about the whole no returns or refunds thing, but I wish they wouldn't be so wishy washy about giving me the right band size. Make it tight! I don't mind! I'd rather it be firm and tight than having to hitch it down all the time, which is what I'm doing now. Because of the no returns policy, and the fact that I've busted the budget on just two pairs of bras, I'm going to have to go MacGuyver on these puppies so that they'll fit better. read more
