Tucked away in a unsightly plaza, next to a liquor store there is a water refilling store that so happens to sell incredible ice cream. Doesn't it seem almost too good to be true? I can't stress how oddly amazing this place is. They also offer rental mailboxes, water coolers in crazy designs, nachos and pie courtesy of another company located in Santa Cruz (where the Marianne's ice cream is originally from.) Every couple weeks the flavors change depending on the season and their recent shipment giving you the opportunity to sample all the greatness Marianne's has to offer. Don't worry though the classic 1020 - Carmel and chocolate swirls in cookies and cream ice cream- will always be around (thank god). But every once in a while I like to try something new just for fun. I got a huge waffle cone with three scoops of ice cream macapuno (Filipino styled coconut ice cream with chunks of coconut meat throughout), lavender and toasted almond. I was most overjoyed with the toasted almond because it reminded me of my favorite drink almond milk tea! Plus there were bits of almonds to add another dimension to the creamy consistency. The service was amazing giving me sample after sample until my I desire mind made a final decision. Huge smiles across their faces, they patiently and happily assisted me. I absolutely love their ice cream here! They also have a great variety of flavors to choose from. Me and my boyfriend went here to have a banana split a few months ago and we enjoyed Every bite of it. The staff is attentive and friendly. They have a few tables indoor if you choose to eat your ice cream inside. They also sell water along with the water containers and water dispensers and lastly they have PO boxes for your mail inside. It might sound a little intimidating to even think about all three of those clumped in one store, but the arrangement for everything is perfect and the store is very well organized. The ice cream is locally made (from Santa Cruz which is basically a 30 min drive away from Marina). The flavor is there, it's absolutely delicious!! The parking is not at all a problem. It is located in one of the mini shopping centers in marina so there's parking for days!! Perfect place to get water. I am new here and am from San Jose. We used to always have to fill up the water ourselves and my wife and I bring 5 five gallon jugs. This is such a funny place, if you need water or a mailbox, pie or perhaps even nachos this is the place to go! My kids love the Maryann's ice cream, I love being able to get filtered water. Went here tonight for a late night snack. Up until now, I never knew there was an ice cream shop in Marina. In my defense, I wouldn't call it an ice cream shop, at least not by conventional meanings. Along with ice cream, the store also sells water jugs and filter water plus they offer mailbox services; no wonder this place was off my radar. I must say though, its quite ingenious of the store to serve as a one stop shop. While picking up your mail the urge to get ice cream hits you and what do you know, you turn around and there it is! As you leave you pick up a replacement water jug. Talk about a great use of space, albeit strange choices, it somehow works. However, I do digress, back to the food! Simply put, A Plus offers a decent variety of flavors to suit anyone's sweet tooth. The customer service was definitely spot on which surprised me and my friends. She was generous about samples as well as scoop sizes while providing colorful conversation. I ordered a scoop of mango and a scoop of green tea. Both were velvet smooth and had a great mouth feel. Just the right amount of sweetness but I did find the green tea to be a tad on the bitter side but other than that I had no complaints. Salted caramel ice cream is delicious! Service was a little rushed...I asked what the flavor on the end was and the lady said '1020'. I asked 'what is that?' and first she looked at me like I should already know. I stared at her, waiting for an answer. Clearly a bit annoyed, she told me caramel, fudge and brownies which sounds delicious! I wasn't sure what her attitude was about since I'm not from the area and have no clue about code numbers for ice cream, lol. A nice lady in line behind me told me the significance of 1020. I can't remember what it was, something about the original address of the creamery where the ice cream actually comes from, historical significance and such. I've lived in Marina for a long time and never knew there was an ice cream shop! After seeing it here on Yelp I had to try it and dragged my best friend to go get some ice cream. On seeing the front of the shop he wasn't too sure he wanted to try the ice cream but I continued on undaunted and was greeted by a very friendly lady behind the counter. I was overjoyed to see they had green tea ice cream as that is my favorite and immediately ordered a single scoop on a sugar cone. I was happily distracted with that for a while, they give a giant scoop for a single! My friend got a scoop of horchata ice cream and said he wasn't sure if it was good or not that we found this place (due to his diet and love of horchata lol). The two people who were there who I think are the owners were very very friendly and told us all they have to offer.. They have Gizdich Ranch pies for pie a la mode, bacon wrapped hot dogs, polish dogs, ice cream, water and post-office boxes. I was told that we can call ahead to make sure they have bacon wrapped hot dogs ready and if not they will fix one up for us before we arrive. I went again a few days later and they were just as friendly as the first time and I brought my mother and we tried some different flavors of ice cream and they were just as delicious! The selection obviously isn't as vast as Marianne's, however, they do carry flavors that will satiate just about anyone. Feeling fruity? Try the Blackberry, Banana or Mango Ice Cream they have on regular rotation. Chocolate cravings? They got you covered there as well as they offer Chocolate, Chocolate Cinnamon and Peanut Butter Fudge Ice Cream. With 24 flavors always on hand, you're sure to get what you want. A Plus also offers waffle cones and banana splits (Banana Boats) in two sizes for no more than $5.75, which is a good deal considering you receive three large scoops of ice cream and unlimited toppings. OH MY GOSH! Probably the BEST ice cream place I have ever been to. A great variety of flavors (such as horchata, lavender, green tea, and coconut/macapuno and then the normal ones too) The best tastes. Not overly sweet. Very high quality. Very inexpensive! The only downside is that one will get hooked on a flavor. They have some flavors in rotation so sometimes you will happen to miss a flavor a few times in a row. For me it was horchata, I keep coincidently going in when they don't have it. However they always have something else. I love lavendar and green tea combo OR dark chocoate and macapuno (baby coconut) combo. My boyfriend says that their Salted Caramel is the best he has ever tasted. And I agree, not too sweet, which is the downfall of most ice creams. Don't let this place fool you. They are a weird little store. They have PO boxes and sell water jugs as well. HAHA, so funny. Not many people know about this place! Bf has lived in Marina practically his whole life and when I said lets get ice cream he was like, where? I knew about this place because of their water service and not their ice cream. Coming here today, together was a fun mini adventure. However, I am not a fan of Marianne's ice cream, and I discovered this by having some out in Santa Cruz. To me the ice cream tastes too much like unpasteurized milk, very dairy flavored. We have a family farm, I know what fresh milk tastes like. That said, this place is neato. Just knowing there's an ice cream joint in Marina makes the little town feel more like a real town? I guess? Helpful service, great business idea but the ice cream is my only gripe :( Bf loves it and so does everyone else and now I actually feel a little guilty for not liking their ice cream but that's what my tongue tells me and it doesn't lie. Wow. We stumbled upon this place 6 months ago on a visit to Monterey. Our visit this week to Monterey included back to back days of A Plus featuring Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz. They always offer samples and are very friendly. The size of the scoops are generous and reasonably priced. We devoured the Burgundy Cherry, 1020, and oatmeal raisin cookie dough. All delicious and unique. I sampled the Horchata and will get that next visit. read more

Employees were non-stop in filling water bottles, taking payments, and being friendly to even the most rude customers. I was impressed and I'm glad to bring my business here repeatedly. I watched the whole time to make sure bottles and lids were sanitized, and I was not able to see any violations of hygiene. I was here a few weeks ago with my family cus my 5yr old niece wanted "Santa Cruz" ice cream. (she went previously with my parents) I ordered a single scoop of cantaloupe & the scoop portion was HUGE. Thought it was a double but I was wrong, the lady was very generous. It filled the whole cup. Second time around I literally got a small scoop of ice cream. (See picture) Not 100% positive if the girl was new or not but I would just like some consistency. I was looking forward to a BIG "scoop" like last time to fill my craving. I mean for $2.40 I rather go to grocery outlet & buy a box or go get a $1 cone at MCD's but I like to support local so I will continue to go to this shop. We love this place! We always stop in when we come to Monterey on vacation. It might be hard to find if you've never been, but they are so awesome! No idea how I've lived here for like 3 years without checking this place out. But when a heatwave struck, I needed ice and ice cream and thought, well, might as well stop in. I was really happy with the quality of the ice cream and the prices weren't too steep for what it is. My only complaint would be that the wait was pretty long and the people behind the counter served people who blatantly cut in front of me instead of acknowledging how long I'd been standing there. Like, I had been in the small but slowish line for ~10 min, but a family of four walked in right behind me and got helped immediately, and then an older couple came in behind them and also got service right away. I'm assuming I was just overlooked in the crowd since it was a hot day and the shop was busy, but it was a little disconcerting as someone who doesn't like to have to fight for service, lol. I went back the next day for more ice cream (bc I'm hooked now) and was given awesome service so I doubt that its a regular problem. read more
