She had two factures in her back which could not be healed as she was on blood thinners to dissolve a blood clot in her leg. During her stay at Alta, I would call for updates on her. I felt she should have had a catheter on her since she was unable to move much to go to the bathroom. The staff was not doing there part by changing her, therefore, she came out of there with a stage 4 sore on her tail bone by laying in a wet diaper too long and often. The staff purposely moved her water away from her reach which caused her to become very dehydrated to where she was shaking so bad and it was hard for her to eat and had no control over the motions. With that, they put her on an IV to hydrate her. During her stay she developed a UTI infection where she was given antibiotics and caught Ammonia. Her pain level was always very high when the staff would get her up and try to move her around with therapy. To top all this off she was kicked out of Alta because her insurance ran out. Of course Alta covered themselves by having her sign the release forms to go home. A friend picked her up and the Alta staff was changing the padding on her tailbone which her friend questioned why it was bloody and the nurse ignored the question and did not really give a response. The staff helped mom get into to car as she was in so much pain and could not move her body. When they arrived home they had to call 911 to have her removed from the car to her wheelchair into her home. When she arrived home her friend was looking for the prescription Alta said they sent with her, just to find out they did not give to her. Her friend had to go back to pick up that prescription. Mom was in so much pain and immobile so they called 911 to have her taken back to the hospital. This is where the ER Hospital nurse called me to inform me that she had ammonia and a stage 4 tailbone sore from laying in wet diapers. She proceeded to go down and since she was in so much pain her eating was less and less, therefore, the stage 4 sore was not going to heal. I pray the staff who were in charge of caring for my MOM reads this and that there love ones would not to though a lack of care and attention. May there hearts feel pain due to this bad review that others in Alta will have better care.

The doctor's original wound care orders did not qualify for Medicare coverage. Toby and Brenda from CenterWell went WAY OUT OF THEIR WAY to work with the doctor's office to develop a wound care protocol that met the doctor's needs for post-op care, and meet Medicare coverage needs. For me, this was an example of what we all hope healthcare can be: highly skill professionals who care enough to provide the absolute best care for patients. THANK YOU!!!

So why do I consider myself lucky? So glad you asked! Because I am one very satisfied customer. I had the opportunity to use their services again and I am still very satisfied. It is a bit daunting to have strangers come into your home when you are feeling a bit vulnerable anyway. On both occasions, all the health care providers were friendly, competent and completely professional. I really liked that the same person comes each time and they really take the time to talk and listen and work with their clients. They all treated me like an intelligent, competent adult. Both PT's pushed me to challenge myself to increase my mobility and independence, while honoring my wussyness. Both Nurses provided me with the information I needed to make informed decisions about my health and guided me in what I needed to do help with my healing. The first time I had some questions about the billing I had received from them. The people in the business office answered all my questions completely and helped make clear what was co-pay and what was part of my deductible. I really like that the company has a 24 hour help line if I have any questions or concerns between visits. This was extended to me both times after I had been discharged from direct services. So, while I hope I never have need of their services, if I do, and if I have a choice, I would most definitely use them again.

Wingfield Skilled Nursing and Rehab itself is a decent skilled nursing facility here in Sparks ,…read moreskilled nursing in general... really needs some improvement, as I just genuinely do not feel there is enough compassionate and empathetic nurses in the specialty of skilled nursing, especially here in the Reno/Sparks area. This is a honest review after my mom has spent two weeks here after being in the hospital. So this mainly speaks to those who may have senior care plus, Medicare , etc. It is the hard truth of insurances and medical care with those who have this insurance, and simply: there is just not enough resources and benefits for skilled nursing / long term options for those on Medicare/senior care plus. You either have the money saved, have enough money to support your loved ones, or eat up $495 A DAY to have your loved one : fed okayish food, maybe go to physical therapy, be heavily medicated with your medications that will be delivered hours or so after your due time, and deal with different types of personalities of staff members , specifically the nurses and CNAs who some days care and other days they might actually ignore you for the day. Again this is speaking from my point of view of being there on the days to visit my mom and visually observing every time I had to wait to be buzzed out or to ask a question. I can say : staff has always been very nice and cordial with me . They have been helpful with different things AFTER my mom was about to be discharged home and coordinating hospice care. I can't stress enough to look at different skilled nursing places around regardless how close one might be to you. I chose Wingfield because of how close it was to me and heard okay reviews about it. Truthfully: The rooms are pretty outdated here, you are more than likely will share a room with someone or you may get a room to yourself. Good luck with the nurses light, because most of the time it either does not work or they won't come until 30 minutes to a hour. Do keep in mind though: there is 1 nurse per section and they oversee 20-25 patients , so I do give the nurses grace as it not easy being the one person for all these patients. Lastly and most importantly : I highly recommend overseeing your loved ones medication list being given here, discharge papers, etc . As unfortunately there might be something they may have not updated you with as the family member or did not tell you while your loved one was being seen here. Without going into to much details: when my mom first came here : she had an off day, wasn't eating much, wasn't really responding to questions being asked, and the staff got worried, they did call me ahead of time to tell me that they might send my mom back to ER to be evaluated as they simply don't have all the machines needed at Wingfield and not sure what is going on . What they failed to do, was to notify me on is the fact they gave my mom Narcan because they thought my mom might be overdosing on the pain medicine. I did not find this all out until I went to the ER to see my mom, and the nurses in the ER told me that she was Narcan. It ended up being a 2 hour ER visit to evaluate her after being Narcan , then was sent back to Wingfield. After asking what happened , I was told that it was the doctors orders, however till this day it still doesn't sit well with me that it happened , how it happened, and that it was very disappointing for them to not tell me that they were giving her Narcan when they were on the phone with me telling me that they were sending her to the ER and to be clear: I was told the dosage of the narcotic given to my mom was not enough for someone to overdose. This is genuinely just a review to help others who are in a position of helping a loved one or is the person to go to skilled nursing. It is important to remember that every hospital, skilled nursing, or medical facility is dealing with a nursing shortage , but keep in mind: it pretty bad at the skilled nursing facilities. We all want to help our loved ones , but my only biggest advice is that it is okay to be THAT patient advocate for your loved one to ensure things are going smoothly to prevent the worse from happening.

When he was transferred to this facility, no one knew which room he was assigned to-or even that he had been admitted. The next day, he was still wearing the coat and shoes he arrived in. His food trays were left untouched, he was not given water, and days went by without lab work being done. When I asked about missing labs, I was told there weren't any orders no orders (there was) and that I could take him to the hospital myself to have them drawn. Nursing staff could not locate his medications when I asked about them. They were not in any medication cart and were eventually found in a locked drawer, untouched, more than a week after his admission- yet they had been documented as given when he had not received them. These are just some of the many serious issues we experienced in that short time. I submitted a three-page document to the state full of horrendous experiences. Please, if you or your loved one need rehabilitation care, go somewhere else. The staff was negligent, and the facility was filthy. This place is dangerous.
