My dad has a very, let's say unique personality. He is highly intelligent but is a little too straight forward at times and can be insulting. However, Carrie handles my dad's personality like a champ. She's incredible in the way she knows how to deal with the human side of being ill and aging. And she goes to whatever lengths she needs to, to get the care her patients need. She does it with humor, compassion and professionalism. My dad was unfortunately switched from being under Carrie's care about 4 months ago where he contracted MRSA. Setting him back to the point now he is completely debilitated and will now need a foot amputation. Just today he got back under her care and she came out to assess him for sepsis associated delirium at my request. There was no scheduled appointment, she's already busy but she made sure she got out here to assess him. She requested from his doctor a referral for labs, asked me to go get test strips to test his sugar, she left. While I was at the pharmacy to pick up test strips she was back at my house as the doctor denied the request and wanted him sent to the ER. This could have been all very traumatic as my dad was experiencing delirium. But she's such a reassuring, humorous, relatable person she got my dad through being transferred by ambulance to the ER with him in good spirits! I couldn't believe the change in his demeaner from earlier. Angry, traumatized and combative to good spirits and telling me he's going to hold his head up and we're going to get through this. Thank you Carrie for being invested in your patients. I know this was a lot for you today, your schedule was I'm sure already full but you made time to help my dad and me through this. You'll never know my full gratitude. And thank you EHHC for hiring people like Carrie to help us through some of the hardest days of our lives.

If you are considering hospice care for a loved one, I urge you, please, look elsewhere…read more My dad was admitted into Gentiva's in-home hospice care in early April of this year. He was dying from Parkinson's disease, a cruel, torturous illness that slowly robs a person of their strength, mobility, and independence. As a family, we knew his time was coming, and we also knew that he wanted to stay at home. The last thing he wanted was to spend his final days in a cold, sterile hospital room. To honor his wishes, we chose Gentiva. Their homepage carries this promise: "At Gentiva, we believe every day is an opportunity to make care more personal and life more comfortable. That's why we offer home health care, palliative care, and hospice care to give people the support they need with dignity, grace, and love." Sadly, our experience fell devastatingly short of that commitment. The medical director who was assigned to oversee my dad's hospice care did little more than sign off on orders. She never visited my dad in person, never scheduled a virtual or phone consultation, and never met the man whose comfort and dignity she was entrusted to protect. My dad was a physical therapist in Minden, NV, from the 1990s until 2018. He served his community with love, dignity, and kindness, a true healer, admired and loved by his patients. To see a man who had dedicated his life to helping others become a prisoner in his own body was heartbreaking beyond words. We had hoped that Gentiva, and the medical director in particular, would help make his final months more comfortable and dignified. While the hospice nurses and staff who cared for him were compassionate and wonderful, the medical director repeatedly refused to increase his pain medication, even as his suffering became unbearable. His nurse, Jesse, pleaded with her several times to adjust his dosage, but she would not. We were given no explanation. Some of my dad's final words to my sister were this: "I am the patient, I feel like shit, why won't they help me?" Eventually, his pain became intolerable. We had no choice but to discharge him from hospice and admit him to the hospital. He was admitted on Friday, July 11th, and passed away three days later, very early Monday morning, July 14th, alone, without my mom or any of our family by his side. My dad did not deserve to leave this world that way. He lived his life with integrity, compassion, and love, and he deserved to die with the same dignity he gave to so many others. It makes me sick to think that the medical director continues to practice medicine and call herself a healer. After some research, I learned that she serves as both Gentiva's medical director and operates her own medical spa. It's hard to imagine how someone juggling the roles of medical director for a hospice and private business owner could possibly provide the level of care Gentiva promises --"with dignity, grace, and love." I'm angry for my dad. I'm angry for my mom. I'm angry for my siblings and myself. My dad deserved better.

They were always available 24/7 and helpful with any of my concerns, instantly. I don't know how they do the job they do, since their hands are tied by the State of Nevada's governor. He vetoed the bill for "Dying with Dignity" and threatend to veto any others introduced...... The entire team did what they could to keep her comfortable, and did so with the utmost compassion and caring, and they did this for myself and any other family member. I'm not a believer but, they were sent by a greater power, and I thank it for that. She's in peace now and with our three Son's that passed before her. I'm writing this for her and I'm sure she'd agree !!!!! Thank you to the entire staff !!!!! LOVE to you ALL

My father required further assistance that he frequently did not receive. When he started hospice care, the director tried to deny my visits, and spoke to him about moving to memory care behind my back. It took an intervention from hospice care for me to be allowed to see him. The rest of the staff seems caring and pleasant, but I wouldn't trust the director to care for my plants.

Fortunately for me, the people at the local medical office referred me to Interim HealthCare. The manager (Tracie Pistone) came out to my home, went over all of he paperwork and answered my questions. She also helped explain some of the laws out there which help protect seniors and elderly from being taken advantage of by those who would take care of those in need. It was fast and pleasant, she explained the whole process and what to expect. Come the time I need help, a CNA (a great young lady by the name of Kelly Wilson) shows up and off we go. Nice, great conversation, and when I was done with the procedure, she got me home and taken care of. What was the icing on the cake? Being called later to see if everything is okay. If I could tip, I would but that's one of the no-no policies. So instead, posting up a yelp review with a shout out to the two folks who helped me get past this endeavor. Would I do it again? Absolutely, but I'm out of wisdom teeth :)
