Project Motivate - One of the Saturday monthly events. This was an homage to Americans and Vietnamese who fought Communism in the Vietnam War. Never forget!

So I've been volunteering as a mentor for Project Motivate (PM) for almost a year and I'm so glad I…read morefound them through VolunteerMatch! Project Motivate is the first Vietnamese-American mentoring program of its kind . You are paired up with a Vietnamese youth (of the same gender for the school year) and the program has a set schedule of meeting every Wednesday night from 6pm-9pm (that was the schedule for this year) where mentor and mentee all meet in a classroom . I drive every Wednesday evening from my house in LA to Huntington Beach to tutor my mentee. Because that's how I strongly I believe in what they do. My mentee is such a sweetheart, she's very inquisitive and loves to read as much as I do. So naturally we connect immediately. Even though when she first joined the program she was very very shy and refuses to even make direct eye contact when talking - seeing how she had grown in the past year to finding her own voice and gradually being comfortable in her own skin has been extremely rewarding for me. Naturally, being a mentor is something that one has to not only want to do but also has to have the time for , I'm blessed that I'm at a point in my life now where I can give back in this way. To give you an idea of who the other mentors are in the program with me this year: there are couple attorneys, a couple bio-engineers, a couple of social workers, a research analyst, a couple film makers , and a handful of college students who have all come together to volunteer our time once a week. The program also arranges activities for mentors and mentees to do on one Saturday every month. By the way this may sound funny, but please don't feel like you have to be Vietnamese (or even Asian) to be a part of this organization we have volunteers in the program who aren't! If you have heard of this organization or came across it somehow and is debating on weather to be a part of it - feel free to ask me any questions! You may change a child's life! Cheers!

He is very knowledgeable with the job application process. He helped me modify my resume and practice interview questions to land my job at Amazon. He also helped several of my friends get jobs in tech, banking, education, insurance, and more. In terms of colleges/universities, he helped someone I know figure out their career path and what classes to take to graduate quickly. He also supported them in finding research opportunities to get experience. Overall, I would recommend Joshua to any student or job applicant. After years of experience and having to move my children from school to school because of work-life…read morebalance, I feel with deep confidence this was one of the best elementary schools my children attended. Special Thanks: - Dr. Gary Gerstner and prior principal - Ms. Zachach (pardon the misspelling) - IEP staff - Speech therapist - Dolly Chatterton - Lilia (a name similar to Lily) - Parent/Community Advisory Committee - Parents in action Let me give you some context to compare amongst the other reviewers vs my review as a parent. When my children attended this school, I was a single parent, attending UCI as an engineering student, with a child in the IEP program, and having to manage my children's mother who was later found neglectful by CPS. All of this while working at Disney in customer service and born into poverty. Therefore, I had minimal chances to succeed as a parent, let alone the patience for all the possible mistakes I might encounter from being inexperienced. The Community: The people here are great and the kids are decently behaved. There might be a conflict between children every now and then but they do resolve it. The Parents In Action (PIA) cares about making a difference in the children's involvement with school activities. I've never attended a PTA meeting, sorry. The Staff: I don't like to generalize but they were awesome. I especially recall Dolly and Lilia (similar name to Lily). I put Dr Gary Gerstner and possibly the staff through some stuff with CPA getting involved, like the conflicts between the mother and I. In the end, I wish they knew it saved my children's life. Parent/Community Advisory Committee: The Advisory Committee is another level. I recommend attending if you're a parent looking for advance information regarding how to make the best of your interaction with the school system. For example, I asked what was the best way I can make the most out of the IEP meetings with advance resources. The person who answered my question was highly educated and very prepared. They taught me the steps on making a meaningful impact at each IEP meeting. IEP: The help in the beginning was profound. However, to make the changes necessary to improve as a parent for a child in the IEP, I had to be more involved. The specialists and teachers knew my limitations and made the best decisions available to them. The absolute best advice I received was from Ms. Zachach (pardon the misspelling), to make my child love reading and there is no limit to how much they should read.

He was entry level and therefore it should have been a department head doing accounting, or the principle. When handed a stack of invoices, he was told to do the accounting. My son had no idea how to go about doing the accounting. When he told the principle that, she said: Well maybe we should fire you. My son looked at her and said, no problem. I will resign. As far as I am concerned, he has a clear workman's comp case. If this is how the district operates with entry level employees, I have to wonder how they treat their students. My oldest son went to kindergarten at a Garden Grove School 35 years ago. We moved because the school was so bad. It seems the district hasn't changed.

They also ask you multiple times what test you are taking, so it pretty hard to mess that up. I do recommend getting there 30 minutes early if you want to start your test in time.

Approximately, 3 minutes later, the same proctor came to me in the hallway and stated that since I accessed my phone that I could no longer finish my exam and needed to leave. I asked her why she initially told me that I could use my phone on my break and she stated she "didn't know" and had to verify the company rules. This is extremely frustrating because I was halfway done with my exam. I was not verbally notified that I could not access my phone on break and was in fact notified the opposite. I have taken multiple exams at Pearson locations throughout my career and this was my first experience at the Anaheim location.
