We hired D&D Tree and Landscaping for a concrete patio, fencing, and yard grading project, and…read moreunfortunately the experience was frustrating from start to finish. The concrete came out unlevel with poor finishing -- rough, uneven seams that are visible up close (photos attached, including a level showing the actual pitch). The grading between the sod and concrete was also never done properly, leaving big low spots in the lawn instead of a clean transition. We'd specifically discussed dimensions for a garbage can pad ahead of time, and it still came out too small for our cans to sit on properly. The fence work had similar problems: one post was warped, the decorative slats at the top weren't properly secured (visible gaps and loose fasteners), and one post was left without the decorative angle cut that every other post on the fence has. On top of that, they damaged our deck during the job, and we ended up having to go around them directly and file our own claim with their insurance to get it repaired. We gave them several chances to make things right. Daniel eventually admitted the work didn't meet standard and agreed to pay for a few of the fixes. But once we brought him three contractor estimates, he accused us of inflating the numbers and refused to pay anything. We're left having to pay out of pocket to fix work we already paid them to do correctly the first time. Photos included show the unlevel concrete, fence issues, grading, and pad sizing. Happy to answer questions from anyone considering this contractor.

They removed our existing grass, replaced it with weed barrier, decorative stones and several native plants, and set up a drip irrigation system. This was a fairly significant landscaping job that they completed in about one week. We were so pleased with how it came out and several weeks out, maintenance has been very minimal with only some minor weeding needed. We received great service at an affordable price and would absolutely work with them again.

They provided a competitive bid combined with a high quality job. And he had the entire job scheduled and done in less than a week after contacting him. And it was not a standard job as it required navigating native open space and parking a few hundred yards away. They had to tear out a few inches of ground while protecting the existing irrigation system and then level and prep and lay the sod. These pictures don't do it justice considering how bad it was before and how professional it now looks. We would highly recommend Alex and 303 Lawn and Landscape.

We found our fireplace design on Houzz and John made it work in our space. His crews were always punctual and kept on their task when they were here. The only major issue we had was with the synthetic turf. Please be aware...if you install synthetic turf in a west facing location that gets hot during the day, window reflection will cause melting in spots. Not, in all applications, but it happened with ours. We have since put tint on the windows that caused the problem and John will replace the turf next Spring. Any other small issues, John took care of without question. We got three bids for our backyard project. John's bid was the most fair and comprehensive. We enjoyed working with him. He checked the progress on the project often and tried to stay on a reasonable schedule. Bottom line, we were very impressed with Four Elements. They did a stellar job and we couldn't be happier.

We had…read morea substantial backyard overhaul and met with several landscaping companies to get quotes- Nick understood our vision immediately and in a way none of the others did. Admittedly, the only thing that gave me any pause was that he doesn't have many reviews- don't let that deter you!! Nick gave us an incredible design and worked with us to revise and phase it out for budget purposes. We completed phase 1 of the work with him this spring (deck demo and paver patio install) and it was absolutely seamless. From tweaking design to picking materials, Nick was always accessible and a great communicator. His crew worked quickly and efficiently and we are SO thrilled with our new outdoor space. We'll be calling Nick again next year to tackle the rest of our project! Cannot recommend him highly enough.

Our project…read moreincluded design services, complete removal of existing backyard landscaping and patio, save for one tree, pouring of a new concrete patio and hot tub pad, installation of a gas fire pit and gas line for our grill, new sod, 5 large trees, around 20 plants, and a new irrigation system to include new valves and lines. Many aspects of the project fell short, and if you don't want to read any further, my recommendation is to look elsewhere for your landscaping needs. Pros -Very solid design work, our backyard originally looked great and the design is much more functional and private. Cons -Patio: the subcontractor ran short on concrete and I witnessed them pulling what was left from the pump lines and a catch tray to complete the project. The result is a portion of our patio that has incorrect drainage/pooling, spalling and cracking. -Irrigation: and entirely new system, including valves, was supposed to be installed. None of the valves were replaced and I am now having significant problems that will require a complete replacement of the 20 year old valves. -Plants: Nick assured me that the 7 boxwoods he had planned would hold up to my two male dogs. They were dead within 3 months, replaced under his warranty, and were all dead again the following spring. In researching, it turns out that boxwoods are not tolerant of dog urine whatsoever and something else should have been used. -Fire pit: beautiful centerpiece in our backyard. Unfortunately, it was slammed together at the last minute and the internal structure couldn't support the lava rock. I rebuilt it myself less than 6 months after the project was completed. Lawn: extremely lumpy and uneven, is going to require a bunch of sand and labor to get it where it needs to be. I spoke with Nick many times after our project was completed to address some of these issues (not all were immediately present or known about) and was brushed off and made to feel like I was putting him out...after cutting him a check for $60k. Not only is the value not there, I am now paying a second time for things that weren't done correctly the first time and in some case were borderline fraudulent like the sprinkler valves.

Jessica (landscape designer) and her husband Mike (landscape project manager) make an excellent team, willing to take an idea, work it, come back to budget and intent, propose the right balance of glorious textures and functional landscaping. Their crew is small and efficient, doing the work well within the time frame quoted. I wanted lots of things- but it came down to "fun and funky" as my guidelines which Jessica realized through combining a formal planting but used surprising colors and textures. Barberry in lime green crisscrossing one plot, filled in on two sides with silvery artemesia, WOW! Stunning! So far, the compliments are flowing in from neighbors and strangers alike. We're excited to let this grow a bit and start planning Phase Two- hardscaping!
