Minimal on the aesthetic, but maximum on the quality and attention to detail. Whenever I buy a garment from here, I get home and notice some little thing that I come to love that I didn't even notice in the store. That's what I want from a higher price point garment. I want to be reassured on my own terms that I made the right purchase. As for the store atmosphere, I always appreciate walking in here. The staff are usually interesting and knowledgable. Some of them are nicer to chat with than others. The store setup is cozy. I like the wood accents. I kind of miss the old warped wood floor that was replaced a few years ago now, though. read more

Oh, A.P.C, how I need to lose about 50lbs to fit into your jeans. Even the ones in my size. I never thought I was waify and/or French enough to pull off (read: fit into) any of these clothes, so I was content to admire their simple, chic, styling from afar (and vow never to eat again). I also convinced myself that it was just a little too pricey for my basics (and that I was a Fat American and didn't deserve them - sue me, I have issues). Then I went to their mega-sale this summer determined to find something, anything that fit. I literally tried on everything in the store. Like EVERYTHING. Most things, shock, were cut too slim in the shoulders. And the legs/waist? Don't even get me started. But then there it was: shining like a black cotton beacon on the rack. My beautiful A.P.C jacket - at 30% off! Actually it might be a sweater - to be honest, I'm still not sure. But what I do know is that it gets me compliments every time I wear it, and it's become my signature piece this fall. It remains my only item from A.P.C., and I love it. I see the negative reviews here, but my experience was quite different. I got a great shirt marked down to $100. The quality is quite good - the shirt is timeless. (I have owned some APC stuff for 15 years -the clothes hold up.) There is a reason folks living in Paris love this brand. The small details stand out. One thing I would say is that this brand may not suit a curvy body-type. (I did not give them less stars for this as they do not try and serve this market.) The largest size they carry in women is the 40 or maybe the 42. This means no + size. Even women size 10-12 likely won't find much that suits. A.P.C. You feel the need to dismissively pull on your lapels when an acquantaince heralds Sarko as the saviour of France and you'd like the perfect blazer for the occasion? A.P.C. When I first heard of A.P.C. years ago and saw their aesthetic, I thought they were a socialist design collective. After all, their clothes border on the spartan, are free of frou-frou, and have military aspirations. And some of the t-shirts have politicized logos. So of course I had to visit. Then I glanced at the price tag on a coat. KA-CHING! Socialist my ass. Lenin is rolling over in his grave. I second Michael S.H., Andrew N. and others on the raw denim. My bony ass looks bootylicious in new cure. Great store. Great atelier. That being said, I'm still bitter at A.P.C. for putting their second magasin general in WeHo of all places and not SF. Fucking Gauls. You can't tell me those muscle-bound starfuckers, meth sluts, and pornstars deserve A.P.C. more than the brooding queer commies in SF. read more

In my dream world, I would eat duck confit and oysters every day and never go broke and never get fat. My apartment would be bigger than an average suburban bathroom. I would have a good hair day at least once a week. I would not sweat when I jog and my mascara would never run. I would be able to afford Louboutin's and THEN (get this!) I would actually be able to walk in them without wincing in pain or breaking my leg. I would be able to sing like Charlotte Gainsbourg and act like Maggie Gyllenhaal. Oh and I would look cute in APC clothes. APC sort of embodies that effortless chic that some women have and others (myself for instance) dream about. The fit is slim, the shapes are simple and the cuts are so anti-sexy that they are sexy. There is a huge preponderance of cotton and a refreshing derth of spandex, sequins, and all things complicated. Yes... there are a lot of things in my dream world. And APC is one of them. read more

EXPERIENCE: 1/16/12 My younger brother has a pair of New Standards that he wore into the ground. My Uniqlo's were about shot and I wanted to step up a notch, so I went to APC. There was an air of smug that existed in that store somewhere between the front door and the cash register. I didn't feel intimidated, I just felt like I was in a store run by dicks. That all changed when I stepped into the back room to get fitted for some denim. I had a very helpful, very kind guy help me find the perfect fit and mode. If you're dropping $200 on a pair of jeans, it helps to have someone who's job is to find the right jeans for a customer. In the end, I walked out content in a pair of New Standards. I was scoping out a pair of pants for my guy, so in I walked. Here's what greeted me: blaring music so loud I couldn't hear myself think, two sales people (a girl with long brown hair and a guy with a hipster beard) at the counter too busy yucking it up to say hello. No eye contact, no smile, nothing. Although there was a third sales guy standing in the back, who nodded a 'sup to me, I wasnt greeted or made to feel welcome. At this price point, i should at least get a smile and a hello. Maybe I'm old fashioned but i think customer service starts the second i walk through that door. Update: it happened again so I'm taking a star off. I order through their online store (which ships from NY). I received an email that my order went through. Then nothing. I called the NY store. They said it's sold out. I "should have received an email notifying me". I didn't. They're just not on top of their inventory, and their customer service is really lacking. I have several items from the store. The cut of their jackets are exceptional. Narrow, clean, and well-tailored. The pants are for girls without any hips. Otherwise they are not cut to flatter- if you have a flat butt it will accentuate that, if you have a big bootie you probably won't fit in any of their pants. Their online sales are priced very reasonably, so as soon as I receive an email announcing their sale I jump on their site. But beware that for online purchases in the U.S., chances are many of the items will be sold out (goes VERY quickly), or the staff in the NY office who are handling the online sales are really disorganized and stupid about processing these orders. I ordered a trench coat that was on sale online, and waited for a while to get a confirmation that it was shipped. When I finally didn't hear anything for 2 weeks, I called the NY store and a dumb-sounding employee told me that it had sold out. I asked him why my order went through, then, online, and he said something about how it may have been "simultaneously" purchased at the store, and therefore not stocked anymore. Right. More like their inventory and processing is a mess. And on top of that no email to say it's out of stock? Really bad customer service (at least, online). read more

[ review redone on 11/6/2007 ] Oh my wonderous days of struting around SoHo on my day off, and of course, me being me, I MUST make a stop at A.P.C. Its perhaps one of my most favorite places to shop in New York if I had to vote. A.P.C. is basically my favorite label when it comes to denim. Next to A.P.C. on that list which comes close is Rag & Bone. A.P.C. is located on Mercer St, almost neighboring the recently opened 3.1 Philip Lim boutique. A.P.C.'s exterior is a simplistically wooden, painted in a poppin' blue color, which deems it incredibly hard to miss. Lets not forget the big flag hanging off the building that screams "A.P.C." A.P.C.'s interior is a definite favorite of mine. Very rough, ragged wooden plank floors which scream "be careful if in heels." Lucky me I need not worry about that, although my dress shoes have taken a pounding when clumsily walking around. The walls are a plain white, and straight towards the back of the store are the ceiling tall curtained fitting rooms. The store in itself is split in two sections, the left being menswear and the right being womens. The racks are positioned in certain ways toward the middle that allow you to access both sides of the racks. If you delve further to the right of the store, past the fitting room, there will lie a seperated section of the store featuring books, pins, tee shirts, and A.P.C.'s signature raw denim. Fall/Winter 2007 A.P.C. features plaid dress shirts, cashmere/cotton blended denim, military inspired coats, bamboo/wool cardigans & sweaters, signature slim fitting suits, corduroys in teal, black and purple/blue, & leather shearling bombers. Also accessory wise, you'll be able to find shearling lined boots, leather gloves, wool neck warmers, wool hats, horsehide belts, and bags. It's just one of those places in my opinion that need to exist in this world. A basic brandless label, with a minimalistic approach, quality in every stitch and impeccable fitting clothing for all the slimmies out there such as myself. I love A.P.C clothing, but unfortunately, the staff is disrespectful and doesn't honor their own word about returns. It is especially irritating over the holidays, when people expect to return and exchange merchandise. They literally said they were doing me a 'favor' by 'letting me' exchange pants that run small with another pair, and wouldn't let me return anything. This after reassuring the purchaser that it would be no problem. A.P.C is not the only company that makes nice clothes. A brand is more than the sum of it's products. read more

Effortlessly chic & beautifully constructed - that pretty much sums up A.P.C.'s distinctly Parisian style. Some have told me that A.P.C. is over rated and over priced...but if you care for pieces that are of quality construction that will last you more than one season, this is the place to go. I also love how there's no blatant branding splattered over the pieces... down with branding! The store is also beautifully styled and effortless. There's a very fresh feeling when shopping here and there's always a piece or two that I must have. No good for the bank account! We felt the service to be quite good. No pressure but definitely helpful. While I think my pants look cool, there's a lot to be desired in terms of quality. My pants started falling apart after a couple months. Early on it was holes forming in the front pockets, then holes in the denim around the crotch and pockets. Within three months belt loops were coming off, and A LOT of the dye came out with the first wash (hand-washed in cold water). These jeans are on track to be unwearable by the one year mark, which is a shame as they were pretty expensive. All that said, I found the staff to be friendly and attentive. read more

Expensive, Even on sale. I've read from other reviewers about their smugness, there's probably some truth to that. Their sales are NON-refundable and NON-exchangeable. You better nail that fit down before handing over your plastic. ~For not being able to afford our full-retail items, you get zis plastic bag, ze appropriate bag to hold your lower-middle-class bought discount merchandise, naturellement. And to remind you of that, we pound a large red stamp on your receipt and strip your clozing of any tags to ensure your discount item can never return to our high class establishment, whose clientele, unlike you, do not hesitate to bat an eye when purchasing a blouse for $300. Ze Pros: APC has a very clean aesthetic, and a certain cut that you don't find in other design houses. Their women's line is consistently classy, too. Ze Cons: Unless you are a little tiny French person (or any other small-stature'd nationality) dont bother trying anything on. I am 6'6" and everything is way too short. Average length for APC dress shirts come up to my forearm. Jeans? They cut off at the mid-calf. If you are on the taller side (esp. 6'2" and up), APC will not be your place. Sorry. read more

The best pair of jeans I have ever worn. I had heard APC mentioned in fashion-insider articles as a go-to staple, the way Tom Ford wears a blazer and Michael Kors a spray-on tan, but the clothes are hard to find. Recently in New York, I walked past the store and had to stop in. The clothes are at first deceiving. Basics with subtle details, luxe fabrics, and most importantly, killer fit. And then I found the jean whisperer. I wish I knew her name, but somehow the lady in the back denim room got me into a 29 and I haven't taken them off since. They are molding to my bony ass, look great with boots and boat shoes, at work or on the floor. Impeccable service and killer jeans. Without a logo. read more

I love APC even though I can pretty much only afford to buy anything during one of their twice a year sales. Oh, and maybe I'll grab a pair of petite standard raw denim jeans when things are going well. So, it's a bit pricey, yes, but if you like good simple designs and you are male you will like them a lot. If you are a woman or like to wear women's clothes, you will probably LOVE the huge selection of simple and stylist clothes. I will say that I usually absolutely love their clothes and jackets, although this year things overall have just been o.k. I say it's an off season, but even in an off season there is something that looks and feels great. The raw denim is a must. I have to say that I prefer the store on Mercer over other stores, but likely only because they were my first. Here's something I noticed about the staff. When there is no sale, they are very friendly. When there is a sale, there are more of them and they are SUPER stressed. The exception was the store on West 4th, I guess because people kind of forget that they are there they get fewer shoppers (so less stress). One complaint. Their prices seem to have jumped over the last few years; more than can be expected. Still, the sales make it all possible. read more

Though I think APC is kidding themselves with their prices recently, they always put together a consistently wearable and coherent collection. If I had to build a wardrobe with pieces from only one store, this would be the one. I think they could stand to be a little more adventurous in their design, but there will always be a place for well-cut, restrained, decent quality clothes. They also now have a separate alcove in the back just for denim. Though most of the clothes do go on sale (and this is the time to strike without mercy), the raw jeans never do, so don't bother waiting. The raw black or blue are now about 180ish and even though the prices have risen steadily, they're worth it. I don't think much of the New Cure fit (super tight up top but barely tapers? who does that look good on?) but I think few body types won't be served by either the New or Petit Standards. My own PS's just had their first birthday (with cake and everything) and are still going strong, with only minor problem wear. read more

By no means is it a beautiful store on some people's standards, but they have everything you'd need. The denim is in the back so go ahead and head back there if that's what you're looking for. I get it... A.P.C is minimalist chic. But somehow, I find it a bit too minimal. It verges on slightly boring. I like my clothes with a bit more detail (darts, style lines...etc) However, it must be said that A.P.C uses fine fabrics (especially wools) and the garments are constructed well. When the store goes on sale for 30-50% off, the price is pretty reasonable for the quality you get. It's just a shame that my body isn't the same as their fit model :( I think I'm too much of a stick to wear A.P.C. I tried on a couple shirts and coats that looked potentially cute on the hanger. But on my body, it was just ok. I'm not paying $$$ prices to look "just ok." I saw a girl try on a "shelock holmes" type of jacket that I also tried on. It looked waaaay better on her, probably cause she had the meat to fill out the clothes. So yeah... I think A.P.C can be cute if you have the body type for it. But if you're on any extreme (either fat or skinny) it aint for you. :/ read more

Overpriced, low quality and poor customer service. Bought a shirt that start falling apart after a couple of weeks. Previously bought a jeans and wanted to return it a week later, store didnt want to take it back because it was wrinkled, its unwashed denim so it wrinkles already after you try it on once. Had to have a 10 minute discussion with a very arrogant sales guy and his manager, finally they wanted to take it back but only if I returned it for something else immediately, then had to have another 5 min discussion that I wanted store credit. Please dont buy here, this brand needs to learn a lot about using high quality fabric and customer service read more

The store's interior is much like the clothes it houses - minimal and clean yet fabulous. Although the jeans have risen in price after the recent popularity of raw denim, you still can't find slim, raw denim of a higher quality at it's pricerange. For those with an understated, minimal style, APC is a must. Some might question the price point, but APC's attention to detail and quality make the clothes worth the price. These jeans seem to have a unique reputation so I thought as I walked by the store in SoHo I would give them a go. The store was pretty empty and a very helpful young saleswoman introduced me to the two or three models they have and gave me great advice on fit. I am not exactly slim, and the fit was great. I don't think it's necessary to be obsessive about sizing down two sizes. If you have to suck it in little bit to button them, I think the fit is right. The price point is what you should expect to pay for a good pair of selvedge jeans. All in all a very pleasant experience and a nice pair of jeans. read more

While enjoying a leisurely stroll around Soho, this store caught my eye. Walking in, I felt a little weird. Then I almost tripped. Then I saw the sign about being careful, as their floor boards are uneven. Damn those uneven floor boards! My balance must really suck... Besides that, they have a solid collection for men, women and children. Their accessories are very good quality. I liked some of their clothing, but I couldn't justify the price. Sadly, with my lowly budget for clothing, you'll find me at Banana Republic copping similar styles. But of course, that shouldn't deter you from stopping by. so i finally went to this a.p.c. and it was very different from what i thought it would be. Although there werent tons of clothes on the display, the clothes that they had on display were all very classy and nice. the jeans didnt quite fit me, one size to loose, the next to tight, the frocks were adorable, even though at my 5' 8", some were a little long on me. The clothing can be worn by people who are not stick thin, but average sized like moi, which is a real plus cause the whole hourglass figure is rarely appreciated in fashion. The staff was not to snotty and i really aprreciated that. They actually looked remotly happy, something phenomenal in the world of fashion boutiques. the interior was really nice too, and i loved the music yes it was pricy but it was worth it. read more

Oh, A.P.C., je t'aime, mais tu es tres cher... Love, love, love the European styles and cuts, but in this economy, I'm not ready to pay close to $300 for a sweater, however cute it is. Sadly, I have my limits. Some of the salespeople are a bit on the snotty side, which is one of my biggest pet peeves (get over yourselves!! it's not like you personally designed the clothes or are super rich to buy anything you want in the store!). And it's definitely not a store for those of you who compulsively buy, then ponder your purchase at home, and then return it (sale items are final, and regularly-priced items are store credit only). But other than that, I always stop by here when I'm in the neighborhood to check out the goods. I'm eagerly waiting for their spring/summer collection! read more

I'm ambivalent about APC. On the one hand, I love their raw jeans. The new standard is relatively affordable and a good value - especially compare to all the "mall" brands - and it's the jeans that most straight leg cuts were patterned after. On the other hand, the quality has deteriorated and the price has crept up in recent years...particularly after the NYT ran a story on them in the Style section. Cloth-wise, APC doesn't always jump at you, but the basics are well-made, if slightly boxy. Final verdict: I will always have a pair of APC NS in my closet, but will only buy non-jeans stuff twice a year during their sale. read more

one Christmas, as a present I got the most beautiful pea coat, a wallet, a scarf and a pair of booties from APC. Till this day I still have all those items. They are made to perfection, are all still intact, are one of a kind, and still look like that Christmas day when i opened my gift up. Ive gone into the store about 3 times,the store itself is on the unique side, with the un leveled floor boards, staff is pretty nice. My best advice is to def swing by when there's a sale going on, "so ya don't burn a hole in ya pockets." read more
