A New Leaf is a health-focused store that blends a mini market with a deli counter, catering to various dietary needs and lifestyle preferences. The market side is decent, though most of the products can be found at regular grocery stores, so nothing particularly unique stood out. The deli area seemed more popular, with a good-sized menu--but the lack of visible pricing was confusing. We ordered the Coconut Mango smoothie, which ended up being $10 for a small cup. That price wouldn't have been too shocking if the smoothie was great, but unfortunately, it missed the mark. It was way too watered down and barely tasted like mango, as the pineapple dominated the flavor despite mango being the headliner. Traveling with food allergies and being gluten-free isn't always fun. My niece told me about this place as her friend is celiac. Being from Southern California I didn't hold out hope that this would be legit but it was totally. I got a couple of things to try and the tastiest thing was these savory Quinoa balls. They were the perfect balance of savory and a little sweet because they had dried cranberries. I need to get some for the plane ride home. I also plan to make these at home. They also had an incredible assortment of frozen gluten-free foods like pie crusts and even gluten-free filo dough and spanikopita. I didn't buy them because I can't tolerate coconut or corn but they looked amazing. If you're a food allergy person please check these folks out. I was happy I did. read more

I pop in here when working in Needham to get a few select gluten free products that I cannot find elsewhere and those that are just easier to grab while I'm in, namely, DePuma's frozen pasta products (try the tortellini if you are GF and thank me later), Le Veneziane pasta from Italy, and occasionally a sandwich or juice. The fresh made foods are a little hit or miss; I've had a few disappointing sandwiches. In some ways I see the reviews about the owner, but while a man of few words, he has always been passably cordial with me. We've even gotten into a small conversation once or twice. Then again, I really don't need someone to smile and blow smoke up my ass to feel like I got good customer service. Idk, I think he's fine, and clearly dedicated to presenting great, healthy products to customers. The prices are steep, but it's a small store with specialty products, so that's what you get. If I could give no stars, I would. My complaints match those of others. I was the only lunch customer, yet service was glacial with two people behind the counter. One appeared to be a needlessly busy manager. Which comes first, fussing about, or caring for your bread and butter--the customer? The food, a veggie burger and salad, when finally ready, was sloppily prepared at best. A very wet, all rice, veggie burger was undercooked and immediately fell in pieces from the bread upon lifting. It was a bland, unseasoned white slop. The bread was not toasted and soggy with the merest shade of mustard even after request. Found this place on yelp. By appearance they looked great... wasn't greeted at all but I heard them talking about being short staffed. I also heard a "someone is walking around back there" comment since I was circling the aisles. First time in there so i wanted to see what thru had. But still no greeting. Based off of interaction the other customers were regulars. When it was my turn to order they were very polite. Outside of me ordering they didn't acknowledge me. When it was time to purchase my 3 items. Only one had a price on it. The lady ringing up everything never told me to the price of the unmarked stuff or the total. I was very excited to check out the store, people had mentioned the enormous amount of gluten free items that they carry (which is true!), but I can't say that I'll be shopping here again. Upon entering the store I was not greeted at all, despite the man at the counter talking to some sort of rep (from what I gathered from their conversation). I shopped for a bit and brought my items to the counter. The man working there didn't make eye contact, say hello, or even bother looking away from the woman he was chatting with (clearly not a customer, based on their conversation) and continued to talk with her while I was waiting at the counter. He finally started ringing up my purchase, never once acknowledging me, while still talking to this woman. He never told me my total and just held out his hand for my card, which I gave him. The only interaction he had with me was to ask if I wanted a receipt. It was seriously one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in my life. I won't be back. read more

Challenge....how to walk in and out of this place with only buying Udi's amazing whole grain gluten free bread (one of the few places around Boston that carries it), and not buying every other fantastic gluten free product in this store! I couldn't do it!! Came home with some great real tasting GF granola and some GF soups this time too. It's a small place, but so overwhelmingly and impressively stocked from the shelves to the freezers with gluten free cupcakes, cookies, cakes, snacks, granolas, flours, mixes, pastas, prepared foods, you name it! All just calling out to me saying, "you can actually eat me"! lol! So I guess I can have my gluten free cake (or brownies or donuts) and eat them too! :) read more

Excellent!!! Clean!! Upbeat! The staff was great!! I had the Popeye Power, it was is absolutely delicious. So fresh and clean and exactly what my body needed. Very knowledgeable staff. I stumbled upon this tiny yet well-stocked store upon arrival in Needham Center by train. The owner is helpful and seems to know a lot about the different brands and products, which is critical when you or someone you know has allergies. I heard him explaining to someone that a particular product was dairy-free but not made on dedicated equipment; few stores are so well prepared with that kind of info. Lots and lots of gluten-free items. I was disappointed in the almost complete lack of vegan items. One would expect a natural food store to cater to all common dietary restrictions in order to maximize their market. This place is AMAZING. I absolutely love their selection of frozen and snack foods and of course their juices and smoothies! They deliver to my work and I've gotten quite a few people there hooked on their juice. They use the freshest, highest quality ingredients in the juices/smoothies and they are SUPER healthy! To top it all off, they are around $6 for a huge serving! This thing must hold more than 20 oz. When I make juice, I see how much kale/ginger/lemon/etc. goes into these juices and it's well over $6 worth of ingredients. My favorite juices are the C-Green and Siena, all with extra ginger and pineapple! They are very in tune with what ingredients are cleansing and detoxifying. I have been putting parsley, lemon and ginger in my drinks for years because of their anti-inflammatory and cleansing benefits. As you can tell, I love this place. They are friendly, have a free juice with their punch card system and offer local delivery. They have tons of vitamins which I have yet to try. Also, I can't complete this review without mentioning their snacks and frozen foods. Come for the juice and get healthy goodies. Amazon won't give you advice or yummy juice. Pro: The owner and employees know their stuff. The shakes and juices are better than other local juice bars. The selection contains "best of breed" products. Con: None of the employees are smoking hot (food tastes better when served by attractive people:FACT). I used to have a regular go-to health food store where I used to live, so upon moving to Boston and working not to far from Needham, I was happy to see that there was a similar-sounding store. A New Leaf has a very, very nice selection of vegan, gluten-free, and other specialty food items that can be hard to come by in the big chain stores. The prices are pretty average for small stores like this, but holy hell... this place is cluttered! I wouldn't be surprised if this place was a fire hazard because of how high the shelves are and how narrow the aisles are (forget about it if you are in a wheelchair or have a stroller!). Popped in today and enjoyed a delicious Lotus juice (romaine, apple?, ginger, mint, and a touch of cayenne.) The fresh mint gave it a mojito feel - yum! I have a little one with dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy-free) and was in awe of how many fun, new products I was able to find. We loaded up on millet-based bagels, Julian Bakery's almond-flour based bread, and a few treats (GF/DF cinnamon rolls) Anyone who is gluten-free, but also health conscious, knows how hard it can be to find GF foods that aren't junky and full of fillers. I really appreciate the huge selection here. Upon leaving, I had to ask to pay, but to be fair, it was a busy time and all 3 of their staff were prepping food and smoothies.
