South Florida and no a/c means you will experience a particularly sweaty hell. Funny fact.... I went to DC early this year and in the US Capitol... there is a hall of statutes where the different states put a statute of those they feel made the most impact to the state and the US, Florida has John Gorrie the father of refrigeration and the A/C... yeah that's about right.... I swear you can't live in this state especially in South Florida without either of the two. About two weeks ago I was working from home and noticed my home was getting progressively hotter to the point that in the afternoon my home was 85 degrees. I knew my a/c was shot because that is definitely not normal. I hopped on Angie's List at approximately 1:30 to quickly find an A/C technician. I messaged one and they said an A/C technician would come in 3 hours... wow that's quick... I thought it would be a day or two to send someone out. Guy came and looked over my A/C.... my condenser coils were frozen... he said it would first need to defrost for a day before he can get in there and see what's wrong. Obviously I wasn't going to deal with sweltering heat so I booked a room at a nearby hotel. The next day after it defrosted he came by and fixed my a/c and I began again to feel the wonderful cool goodness of a/c.... ahhhhhh brisk! If you need A/C repair call these guys! read more

We called them out to look at a minor humidity concern. Our AC unit is brand-new and was working completely fine. The first technician charged us $69 for a diagnostic check and left--and the exact second he walked out the door, our brand-new system completely stopped working. They sent a second technician out who couldn't figure out the problem, so he charged us an extra $289 to clean a drain line. Even after clearing the drain, the AC still didn't work. Magically, after he called the first technician to consult, the system suddenly started running again. It is painfully obvious that something was tripped or mishandled during the first visit to manufacture a breakdown, allowing them to bill us for unnecessary work. To top it all off, they are fighting a legitimate credit card dispute. Shady tactics, unneeded charges, and terrible accountability. Avoid this company. read more

I feel violated after an interaction with this company. They attempted to take advantage of an elderly woman with dementia (my neighbor) in Coral Gables. Her AC broke late on Saturday (yesterday). They came right out for a $265 assessment fee. They then claimed she needed 10 lbs of refrigerant at $250/lb. Total bill $2765. I told them no way & sent them on their way. Our AC guy came out this morning completed assessment & put in 8.5 lbs of refrigerant for a total bill of $250. They blatantly attempted to rob over $2000 from my neighbor. Five years ago, I recommended A-Max, and I continued to use them and liked their service. I found them honest and communicative. So, when they offered a discount on a service plan, I went for it. When the technician came out, he said I needed lots of work??? (I'd had the unit serviced earlier early in the year, so I was a bit put-off.) - I paid for a UV light and freon although the price seemed high. Turns out the company has been sold. Had I known this, I would not have bought the service plan. I called several times to request a refund of it (or at least 1/2) and also asking about the high mark-up on the services they did. No one had the courtesy to return my call. My advice is Buyer Beware here - It is not the same company it was a year ago. read more

A part is broken, tech came out and said it's under warranty. I get an estimate with the part quoted at $833.90. I've called numerous times and replied to the email they keep sending. The office can't find my reply emails, tries to transfer me to the "manager" and the call always drops, promises she will call me back, etc. I own a service business in Miami and if I treated my clients this way I'd be closed on 6 months. After payment, they can't fix issue for 2 months and won't do anything to patch the broken coil. I have used A-max in the past and been pretty satisfied (when Dustin was the owner, it was a different company). However, my experience today was very upsetting. I had a technician come out for a second opinion as my tenant received a diagnosis that the compressor needed to be replaced (from another company). The quote I received from A-Max today was over $1000 more expensive than the other quote for the same scope of work. When I told A-max this, they said, we can price match. What? So you were going to screw me over on the price because you thought I was stupid? No thanks, I would rather go with a company that is honest right off the bat. Dishonest company! I've always had good service with this company in the past but my current problem has me frustrated and furious. It starts in May 2023 and is continuing to this day. Its a very long story so I'll just say I have made multiple phone calls, most of which are never returned. Also appointments scheduled, some of which were no call/no show. Parts were supposed to be ordered and weren't. Calls to the owner Dustin were also not returned on June 16. Now I'm told the parts are not available, it's almost 90 in the house, and I'm expecting out of town company next week. I'm very disappointed in a previously excellent company. While Dustin owned the company the service was impeccable, price was always fair. We. Had them do the free service call they were offering for their regular customers. The tech said our condenser motor was defect and we also needed a new fan blade. They said the condenser motor was under warranty but not the fan blade. They charged us $450 just for the installation and an additional $300 for the fan blade. Total installation time was 20 min. The tech then said we needed a new blower motor because that was bad, he didn't even check the voltage to see there was actually an issue. The new company is also very difficult to contact. Be careful - the previous owner, Dustin, has sold this company and the service seems to have descended into the toilet. Everything was working fine until they came for maintenance last week. Now it's been a week without a/c. Coincidence? It would seem not because I'm seeing a lot of reviews from people experiencing the same thing since Dustin's sale of the company. They tell me the Luxair which THEY installed (under different management) is crap and recommend replacing this unit, together with the air handler for $6,500! This after having already spent $3,500 for a new roof unit in April of 2022! They wash their hands of taking any responsibility for the problems I'm having, stating they're not the manufacturer. No, but you are the one who recommended this manufacturer. I cannot prove anything, but it sure feels like sabotage to generate new business. read more

We hired A-Max to replace an AC unit in a condo we own in North Miami. Miami requires a permit to replace the AC unit, which the HOA requires plus their own set of documents. It took a week to get all of the documents signed, notarized, approved and submitted. Install was to take place the start of the 2nd week. But the A-Max AC tech resigned, forcing the entire paperwork process to start anew with the new assigned AC technician. Now the install would take place on the Tuesday of the 3rd week. A-Max did show up as scheduled and worked all day on the install. They left at 4 pm but AC was not functional. They were supposed to come back the next day, Wednesday, but they never showed up. Calls to A-Max were futile. Receptionist could not tell us what happened nor could we speak to a manager. On Thursday, they did show up, worked for a 2 hours, left with AC still not working. Again calls to A-Max were futile. On Friday, they came, worked almost all day, left, and AC was still not working. Again calls to A-Max were futile. Now starts week 4. On Monday, A-Max again comes to work on the AC and by late afternoon, the AC is finally working. Took a week for them to complete the install and have the unit working. Meanwhile the outside temperature had gone from low 80's for week 1, to mid 80's for week 2, to 90's for week 3 and week 4. The tenants in the unit have 3 small children who could not bare the high temperatures. This forced them to rent an Airbnb for a week costing slightly over $2K with me paying half the cost. We never did get an explanation as to why it took a week to replace the AC unit that everyone tells me should be done in 1 day. Very incompetent and an extreme lack of communication. read more

Dustin is an absolute life-saver! Two years ago, he gave me a quote for a replacement part for my central A-C system, and I couldn't decide what to do. RUN DON'T DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE! I found these people from one of those help the homeowner websites. They were the first ones who returned my call so I called them. They sent out a nice enough guy by the name of Jose. I told him what I thought was wrong, that I thought my coil just needed some cleaning, but it turned out that I had a mylar balloon partially blocking my A/C return. But the real problem was that the condenser fan was burned out. No big deal a simple fix........IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PART! The tech said after installing the fan (a $400.00 cost) that I still had low pressure and my WHOLE SYSTEM would have to be changed. Now I have a friend who is an A/C PRO, but I hate calling him because he never wants to charge me and I always feel like I am taking advantage of our friendship. Well I ended up have to call him and he figured out what was wrong in just five minutes! I made him charge me ($100.00) and a dinner (lol) but I was happy since it has been a month period and no problems from the A/C. I am a (former) customer not a disgruntled ex-employee. One late Saturday night about a couple of months ago my air conditioner was just blowing air, but not cooling. I adjusted the thermostat, bringing it down to 70 degrees, but it kept indicating 84 degrees. And that was a Big area of concern for me, because I have a sick elderly mother and it was in the middle of summer. First thing I did Sunday morning was call A-Max, since Dustin, the owner, had installed my air conditioner over 14 years ago and did a superb job! Ever since then I've had to call A-Max only twice; one time was about three years ago for a coil cleaning, and this time I called their answering service emergency hotline and left a message. Dustin's wife Thania got back with me in only a matter of ... I would say, like five minutes! She told me she would send me someone right away. Their repairman, Emilio was here in 15-20 minutes. So turns out my compressor capacitor broke, and had to be replaced. From the first time that I called them and the job being completed, I would say, my air conditioner was up and running efficiently in less than three hours. I also used them to do my a/c maintenance and I'm happy I did, because it was a great way to maintain the units running beautifully. I originally Contracted A-MAX to quote me for the purchase/installation or a new full A/C unit for my home, since after working for 2-3 days with another vendor they had convinced me that my unit had no easy fix and I had to replace the full coil ($1500-2K) and since was already a bit over 10 years that should replace the full unit. A-MAX technitian/account person (Dustin P.) came promptly to my home, calling ahead, was very polite and when reviewing my unit , did not jump to simply sell me the new unit, but rather ivestigated the sympthoms I reported i had with the original problem (water leaking in inside unit) and what work the other company did to try clearing pipes, and doing full coil cleaning only to find the next day, i still had the "water leaking" problem! ... he reviewed carefully and started doing checks and concluded that probably the problem was still with "clogged drain pipe" rather than missfuncitoning of the unit, which did not need replacement. He was very nice to explain every detail to me of what he would do and agreed upfront with me on the price for him to workout the clogged pipe and address the water leak and that if only if after 2-3 days after the repair the problem was solved, i would pay and noted the same in my invoice so my card did not get charged until after 3 days where I valdiated he had solved the problem and saved me to spend $4 K in a full new unit, where all I needed was $120 (minus 10% for Angieslist) to fix my unit. It is not common to find such a "high ethics and professionalism in any vendor. Not only he was very knowledgeable and detailed in his work but willing to share all the information and patiently explain the problems and solutions and only charge to the work that was really needed. I was looking for a new company, I googled companies in my area and I picked A-Max Air Conditioning because I have a Lennox unit and I wanted a company that their technicians are certified for warranty purposes and more. I called the company to schedule the six month check-up and spoke to Jonathan who was very helpful in making the appointment at my convenience because of my work schedule. I had technicians Stewart and Steven coming to the house to perform the task. The estimates for replacing the existing central air handler and condenser were not only the best price but every detail of the differences between the various brands were provided. The biggest benefit from using a reliable company ( which was a referral from a business associate) is that WE DID NOT NEED to replace the entire system. 5 Stars for this company. On Sunday, my inside air handler was making such a loud noise that I had to shut it down completely. I called AMAX Monday morning and they had a tech at my house with in a few hours and, over the phone, said they were pretty sure what the problem was. The tech showed up, on time, and within about 20 minutes told me the fan blade mechanism was the cause of the loud sound and needed to be replaced. Also said it was an easy fix. So I figured they would need to order it and come back another day. Nope. Said local distributor had it and he would pick it up and return in about an hour to complete the repair. Well, he came back in an hour, very ontime, with the new part. Replaced it and also was able to adjust the speed of my AC because it always ran kind of loud before. Only took a little over an hour and we were back to a nice, much quieter, cool house. The entire staff was courteous and always seemed concerned for my situation. I will definitely use them again if I ever need AC service. read more
