Family run kilt fitters and hirers in Clydebank Business Park. Very friendly staff, and good quality products. Our whole family has been kitted out from there for wedding a few times. A bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. read more

McCalls Of Glasgow

Living in the US would have normally made purchasing a kilt in Scotland difficult, but William made…read morethe whole process a breeze. Since my now-wife is from Scotland, I wished to buy a kilt for our wedding. I had several phone conversations with William who talked me through the whole process and answered the many questions I had as a first-time kilt buyer. He was extremely kind, patient, professional and knowledgeable. Although we never got to meet (my wife collected the kilt in Glasgow), it was an absolute pleasure to work with both William and McCalls of Glasgow and I would highly recommend them.

Many of the shops I visited were staffed by people who knew surprisingly little about how kilts should fit, fabric quality, etc. In some shops, it was assumed that I was not a serious buyer. After an especially negative experience with an unhelpful saleswoman in Stirling, I finally found the kilt I wanted to buy just down the road at Clan Kilts Ltd. As it happened, it was an ex-hire heavyweight kilt being offered at an excellent price, so I felt I had really scored.... but it got even better! I had already committed to buying the kilt, but the gentleman in the shop volunteered to replace the somewhat worn leather straps at no additional charge. He measured to make sure the new straps would be ideally placed. He even offered to have the kilt pressed. Because I already felt that I was getting such a great deal, I had not requested any of these services; they were all offered unexpectedly. I had the kilt shipped home to the USA. The charges were extremely reasonable. The kilt was delivered very quickly, with new straps, etc, just as promised. I have never had better retail service anywhere in the world. If Clan Kilts provides such excellent service to a tourist whom they're unlikely to see again, and who is buying a discounted item, I can only assume that they must bend over backward for their local repeat clientele.

Having learned that "real"…read morekilts start at £300 for just the kilt, and are upwards of £1,000 for the whole set, he decided to get a "casual kilt," which is essentially the same, just not made from pure wool. Braveheart Kilts was having a sale on casual kilts for £30. When we walked in and explained to the gentleman what we were looking for, he measured my husband and offered him a choice of 4 different tartans for his kilt. After he picked his tartan, he got to working on the rest of his set. He set my husband up with a shirt, sporran, sgain dubh, and socks. Also, since my husband was a "kilt virgin," he threw in a kilt pin and flashers for free. He knew we weren't looking to spend a ton of money, and respected that, not trying to push us to buy top of the line accessories. In the end, my husband was thrilled with his purchase. He wore it to dinner that night, and our hosts in Scotland were thrilled to see him. He can't wait to wear it to other future events. We had a nice experience at Braveheart Kilts, and are thankful for their kindness and professionalism.

I'm sorry K4U, but I'm going to downgrade your rating from 4 to 3 stars for not having my outfit…read moreready for collection on the day it was supposed to be there. I had a fairly long drive the next day to attend a conference weekend so the outfit was supposed to be available for collection between 4 and 5pm the day before. Yet when I went in to collect, there was no sign of it. Another customer was in at the time picking up his outfit so clearly it wasn't a delivery issue, but sadly mine was nowhere to be seen, and it wasn't even listed in the collection book for that day. The salesperson had to look it up in the original order book. Despite this administrative cock-up, they did promise to get it for me as soon as possible the next morning, and I eventually collected it at 11.30am. They provided a £50 discount voucher for "my next hire" - as long as it's before the end of the year that is. Given that this is the first time I've donned a kilt in about 30 years, the chances of me redeeming that voucher are pretty slim. I would have preferred a discount on the price there and then to compensate for the inconvenience; or perhaps they could have thrown in the hip flask I bought for free instead of charging me £20 for it? The outfit itself was absolutely fine and I have no problems on that score. But the service definitely has room for improvement.
