I actually love Wilkies - I've got a few dresses out of here myself (and they were under £50 -…read morebargain!) but I especially love their good old-fashioned customer service. My Gran used to regularly shop here before she fractured her pelvis, but she's been in recently to pick out an outfit for a wedding - and the staff were a massive help, offering to take things downstairs for her to try on, instead of her having to go up and down the spiral stairs, and made what could have been a stressful shopping trip a lot easier!

Admittedly, these clothes aren't aimed towards my age group but even for those who may want to purchase them, I found them a bit expensive. I don't know if I was expecting this place to be along the same lines as Happit, or perhaps more provincial and selling some practical wooly jumpers to help locals brave the elements. It's more designer than the aging fronting of the shop store sign may suggest, and so more expensive. There were a lot of studded jumpers and work trousers downstairs, along wiith a section dedicated to selling insulated jackets and more practical fashions. Upstairs, Wilkies hosts lingerie, bedwear and some designers. The clothing on this floor is more up market and more up to date than that of downstairs. A lot of the clothes up here struck me as being suitable for trendy dinner parties, and some items would certainly suit someone in the process of jazzing up their wardrobe. But with jackets coming in at a cool £150 each, it was hard to see past the price label. This store is undoubtedly handy for locals and is certainly good quality. But if you're looking for something a bit more up to date at a slightly cheaper price, you're probably better going to M&S.

I love the Art Deco inspired…read morefont on its signage and the adorable painted lady who stretches her graceful blue arm out over the length of the building. Her sprawled out appearance reminds me of these exotic 70s paintings of Amazonian woman with lurid but beautiful painted blue skin and lots of make-up. But enough digressing - Tiny Shiny Things is a wee gem of a jewellery store, and to be hoenst I feel as though its cutesy name downplays the quality of the local designs that they have on offer.They play host to a number of homegrown talent including Sheila Fleet, Tiangus Jackson and the staple of the Rennie Mack collections. Sheila Fleet's jewllery is particularly striking as her simple, bold designs are also very elegant, with their curved contours emphasising their organic inspiration. This shop does sell Tiny Shiny Things but it should be furthering promotion of the amount of talented designers they host rather than whispering about it in a mousy fashion.

Called in here for the first time today it must be fairly new because I can't recall seeing it…read morebefore. It's quite a large shop with lots of well-spaced racks of clothes, all with colour-coded hangers to make it easy to find sizes. There is a big tub of belts and scarves beside the door and a rack of shoes over on the left as you go in. At the back are many shelves of secondhand books, DVDs and videos, and there are a few glass and china ornaments as well. I didn't buy anything today but I'll keep my eye on the books from time to time in case any of the out-of-print ones I collect should appear! Definitely good for a browse.

Between Dolci Nardini and The Moorings (near the ferry), this is a great shop for band T-shirts for…read moremen and woman. There are lots to browse through T-shirts, vest tops, other items of clothing including scarves and various accessories. Nice little tins to keep your plectrums in too with various band pictures on the top Beatles and other band logos. Definitely worth a look if you're passing!

I loved the jewellery and bought an exquisite necklace for a friend for under £10. The girl who served me was very pleasant and she gift-wrapped the necklace beautifully for no extra charge. I wish I'd had more time to browse - I would certainly have bought more gifts and maybe something for myself too!
