Kayaking on a tandem on Morro Bay

Had a great time kayaking with the fam. There was a bit of a wait due to Labor Day weekend but it wasn't too bad. Very friendly service with clear instructions.

Easily kayak'd onto the sand dunes shore

This shack is an excellent value with our tandem 2 hour rental being roughly $30. You can paddle out to the sand dunes which are roughly 15-45mins away depending on strength & wind. Very fun trek to get a unique "deserted island" feeling with the softest sand I've ever walked on.

This place was awesome. Reasonable prices and Anita was the BEST so sweet and welcoming! Gave us excellent guidance of where to go and was overall very very sweet. Def recommend this place

Easy process to rent a kayak and get on the water. You pay for how long your out there and they have an easy way to get in and out of kayak and good pricing

I wanted to be able to leave a 5 star review. I previously had rented from them and had a wonderful experience. Today on Thursday our group of 10 arrived exactly at their posted opening time. There was no staff there when we arrived. We waited 30 minutes and still no staff arrived. The sign at the front says they are open on Thursday at 9. I would like to recommend to whoever owns this business to place a sign on the front gate if they don't plan to open on a particular day. It would also be helpful if they posted a sign if they were going to be late. Today was probably the best tide of the year. They lost hundreds of dollars today because no staff was there.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Don't be put off by a long line. They cleared the line in 10 minutes. The staff were ultra-friendly and helpful. This is definitely one of the best kayak departure points because they have a very convenient overhead bar with handles for entering and exiting the kayak. No rolling on and off the dock. Prices are extremely reasonable. Kayak is in good condition. A 2-hour kayak adventure across Morro Bay with a hike across the sand dunes cannot be beat. And if you're going to do it I recommend doing it here.

Went with my family, and after considering other kayak rentals in the area Kayak Shack had the best prices! I'd only been to the main kayak rentals closer to the Morro Bay so I was worried but they did NOT disappoint. The staff was way way friendlier than any of the other places and their location further down the bay offers a unique experience and more exploration. I'd HIGHLY recommend, and the employees are the sweetest! They need a raise!

We had a fantastic time kayaking with Bill and would do it again in a heartbeat with Pismo Beach…read moreSurf Shop. A couple of clarifications for questions we had before the trip: - We have kayaked a lot before and were not sure if we needed a guide or could just rent kayaks. Have a guide is well worth it in this area. Lots of hidden caves and beaches and harbor seal hangout spots that only a local guide would know. So worth it to pay for the tour rather than renting on your own. Bill is really knowledgeable and super chill. Highly recommend. - You do have to carry kayaks down the stairs from the Shell Beach street to the launching spot on the ocean. I saw some people complaining about this in the reviews. I'm not sure why. Those kayaks can't fly themselves down the beach and it is really no big deal. - We went during low tide so you can't really go in the caves...but honestly we didn't miss it because everything else was so cool and scenic and there was plenty to see. I feel like we went at the perfect time for kayaking with a calm sea and lots of wildlife. However, if kayaking in a cave like area not next to a cave is super important to you, ask when the tide is going to be in to facilitate that. - A wetsuit and booties are key because you will get wet -- either you might flip which is no big deal or you are going to wade in the water at one of the sea glass beach stops to see some cool anemones. Luckily this shop outfits you with some great gear included in the price. - Pismo Beach Surf Shop and Pismo Beach Dive Shop are owned by the same person and are the same shop. I don't know why one has higher ratings than the other but both are excellent because they are the same place.

I strongly advise families to look elsewhere. We rented bikes that were visibly rusted and in clear…read moredisrepair. The pedaling was labored, and the chain on our family bike popped off not once, but twice, leaving us stranded in traffic. This wasn't just an inconvenience--it was a safety hazard. We returned the bikes early, and the owner's response was shockingly dismissive. She said a quick "sorry" and then literally went inside and hid, refusing to speak with us or offer any refund. An appalling lack of customer care.
