Getting ready for a relaxing hour on the bay.

This is the friendliest rental place in the best location. Really love it! Its easy to get to and very easy on and off the kayaks.

Friendly and efficient. We took our dog out and they had a doggie life vest for us to borrow. They have tide times and all the intel you would need for a great time.

Had a great time kayaking with the fam. There was a bit of a wait due to Labor Day weekend but it wasn't too bad. Very friendly service with clear instructions.

The staff were friendly, informative, and attentive! A perfect location for an afternoon kayak, we even saw a group of 10 otters in the bay. Stopped on the dunes to stretch our legs before returning. At a great price too! Highly recommend!

This shack is an excellent value with our tandem 2 hour rental being roughly $30. You can paddle out to the sand dunes which are roughly 15-45mins away depending on strength & wind. Very fun trek to get a unique "deserted island" feeling with the softest sand I've ever walked on.

This place was awesome. Reasonable prices and Anita was the BEST so sweet and welcoming! Gave us excellent guidance of where to go and was overall very very sweet. Def recommend this place

Easy process to rent a kayak and get on the water. You pay for how long your out there and they have an easy way to get in and out of kayak and good pricing

Absolutely fantastic experience. Don't be put off by a long line. They cleared the line in 10 minutes. The staff were ultra-friendly and helpful. This is definitely one of the best kayak departure points because they have a very convenient overhead bar with handles for entering and exiting the kayak. No rolling on and off the dock. Prices are extremely reasonable. Kayak is in good condition. A 2-hour kayak adventure across Morro Bay with a hike across the sand dunes cannot be beat. And if you're going to do it I recommend doing it here.

I booked this in advance and it was relatively easy to do so online via the request form on the site. We had a 9am start but easy to get a hold via text if you run late. There is ample free parking right in front of the shack. Put in "A Kayak Shack" in Google Maps and you will have no trouble finding the dock where you need to be. Bathrooms are available by the shack and there are even faucets to wash your feet if you get muddy after the trip. Everything went very well and we all had lots of fun doing this. They provide a lot of equipment, including dry bags, even a blanket to prevent splashes on you, and safety jackets for everyone even if you can't swim. It was clear John and his team are very knowledgeable of the local wildlife and I appreciate the care behind making sure we had a good and safe time. Once arriving to the dunes, we did a hike to the secluded beach and was able to enjoy the view from a much quieter spot. For the picnic, the food was delicious for a picnic. Includes wine and sparkling water. John surprised us with some lovely homemade Blondies. The whole experience doesn't require too much experience and the waters are quite calm so it's perfect for many ages and such a lovely place to be!

We were a small but mighty group of three. I do suggest getting some water shoes and if you have them binoculars. Jenn did a great job preparing us before shoving off. She created a wonderful atmosphere. I can't say enough about her kind leadership and how she taught us about this unique area of California. This tour immerses you in the geological wonders of the bay, history of the area, and its bountiful marine life. On that particular day, we saw very active cormorants, a few herons, egrets, a bald eagle, evidence of mud shrimp, crabs, and a raft of otters taking a snooze. Being outdoors on the water was calming and learning with other curious individuals was invigorating. Thank you Jenn for this experience that gave us many wonderful memories.

You could go to it from the main road which takes you through the country side. Also wineries along the way which we found out. Along the whole stretch of the drive, there is no parking along the highway. Sucks that you can't get out for a picture of the lake. We finally made it to the entrance which there's a fee to get in. We literally just wanted to see the lake and get a pic. Give or take, 5 minutes or so. Spoke with the entrance guards, it was 12.00 per vehicle and as we had our dog with us, that would be another fee for pets. Instead, we just opted out to leave. Honestly, kind of sucks that you can't check it out without having to pay to get in. Not only that, they do offer camping which the camp site wasn't that far. Hiking trails as well as a boat ramp. The parking area when you enter is where the check in and customer service are. I believe there's a public restroom as well. We ended just getting out and stopping right at the gate to take a quick picture of the lake. From what we could see, there was people fishing right along the base. Curious to know if you could just leave your car at the lot and walk down to the water which was a like couple min walk when we left. Or maybe even that, you still have to pay a fee. Regardless, it was somewhat beautiful from what we could see off the road. Along the whole drive in till the entrance, no stopping or parking along the road.

And like alot of buisness when they start focusing on straight profit they seriously suffer in any areas that concern the comfort or safety of its guests but today i have seen it all. We have bears here at lopez and as a result all the trash bins have to be bear safe so they are not attracting the bears directly into the areas of the campers. Well in an attempt to save a couple of dollars, as in the trash truck driver having to get out and unlatching each dumpster before dumping it into his truck, it would add a minute to each bin in the park he has to empty. I dont know the exact number but i would estimate 60 bins here so thats 1 hour of extra driver time needed to get through the park. So you would gather that removing the bear safety latches would save 1 hour a week, 30$...... thats is what the publics safety is worth to the county of San Luis Obispo. On top ofvthat they used to have an employee patrolling the park every couple hours making sure the rules were bei g followed, nothing dangerous was going on ect. I hate to say that is no longer the case, despite all their prices going up exponentially year by year their employee count has dropped drastically. Its gotten so bad that ive been here 24 hours now and havent seen 1 truck on patrol. Last night bears were raiding the trash cans, dogs were barking all night long, and people were partying well into the next day with nobody telling them some people actually enjoy their sleep. Its a sad day in america when this type of behavior is now become the new standard and money is now all that matters, not even the customers safety. Year by year the deaths on the lake here keep going up with this year so far being the most ever and we are barely a couple weeks into summer. As a local resident i would tell you, if youve come to party, get wasted, fight bears and dance with death then this is your place but bring a ton of money cuz your gonna pay substantially for it.
