In 2019 or 2020, my late father's wife and my brother and I had noticed that Dad wasn't doing well with his diabetes. Dad had had some mental decline, so I (possessor of his medical and durable Power of Attorney) went with my father to Dr. Moryan.
Dr. Moryan wanted to talk about politics with my dad. How great Trump is. Okay. After a few minutes, I asked about getting on with the exam. His exam was just reading the labs. I explained my concerns about Dad's apparent bouts of dementia. Dr. Moryan told me that he had known my father for a long time, and my father was very smart. Yeah, I've known him a long time as well. He's my father. He's been a brilliant man.
Dr. Moryan assured me that Dad was fine. I'd personally seen him NOT fine, and explained how my father's blood sugar fluctuated wildly, and I asked about a glucose monitor for him, because Dad wasn't doing a good job of keeping up with his BGL. "Yeah, everyone wants one, but they're expensive," said Dr. Moryan, dismissively. When I persisted in asking, he said, "you find the one you like and I'll write a prescription for it." I know NOTHING about BGL monitors. He is an endocrinologist. I had hoped he could be more proactive. In the end, he pulled blood, handed Dad an old photocopy paper about counting carbs, and left. He had basically pandered to my dad, given no service, and billed for a specialist visit. Hell, no wonder Dad loved going to this guy.
My brother, who is also diabetic, said that Dr. Moryan would just talk about my dad with him during his visits, and wouldn't do anything to treat my brother's deteriorating condition. read more
