Visited here on my first trip to Ptown and I will 100% be back. The music was great, the crowd was awesome and the bartender was properly surly with a heavy pour. Clothes check filled up fast but there's a convenient bench to pile stuff under. There's plenty of space to be away from the crowded dance floor if that's what you want but the dance floor is big with plenty of room to squeeze copious amounts of sweaty club goers. Perfect place for me!!! read more

The staple gay club in P-Town. It's a fun and cool gay club. Good music and drinks are ok. The only issue really is that the cover is pretty steep ~$20 and the drinks are also mid- to high- range for standard cocktails. I would hope that the cover would at least get you a 1 drink voucher. I didn't experience any rudeness from the staff like what many of the reviews were complaining about. There are plenty of bars, both indoors and outdoors, available. This very cool place is tucked away on a side street and considered the oldest bar on the Cape. Low ceilings, low barstools, crickity floors, and a crotchety bar tender. Granted it was only noon, and he had a long day ahead of him, so I'll cut him a break. So not one to cast a bad review... but. After 6 of us paid a $20 cover to get in - which was no problem - we went to the front bar in the dance area to buy a round. My friend bought the round in cash as it's a cash only establishment- again, no problem. My friend paid and was getting some money to tip from one of the other guys. I guess it was not fast enough for the rude ass bartender who literally screamed "cmon give the man a tip". We understand and are more than happy to tip and tip well. But this was absolutely so rude and started our time there on a very bad note. On a bachelorette trip to an area supposedly welcoming community and we were appalled at the disrespect we received. Getting into the bar we had a group of 16 people. 1 of us paid for all of us and they continued to take money from 3 of us without letting us know and then refused to give us our money back. On top of that, as we walked out we got a comment "you aren't welcome here". Beyond shocked at the treatment we received. The A House Macho Bar is a fun smaller alternative to the big A House Dance Club next door. This small bar is a pub, with a leather/ levi feel to it. I love the old salted flavor to this bar. The old nautical decorations, and old bottles that hang from the bar and ceiling beams. It even has a real fire place to get warm in the winter. This bar is open during the day and the upstairs "macho Bar" is open at nightly which gets a bit fun & frisky. read more

This is a classic example of a place that is able to stay open and thrive solely because it's one of the very few options available for nightlife. This place is a horrible experience, especially if you go the week of the 4th of July, so just brace yourself if that's your plan, and know that Crown & Anchor (for example) is a far better venue, in terms of the space and the treatment of customers. The inside dance floor at A House is absurdly hot and humid. Simply trying to walk across the dance floor to the back patio requires squeezing through a bunch of people and getting drenched in their sweat in the process. Like can they not turn up the air conditioning if they're going to allow this level of congestion? Going to this place is reminiscent of going to some bad college house party. But people still pile in there for lack of alternatives around. But on top of that consistent flaw, to make bad matters even worse, I just had an especially awful interaction with one of the bartenders. I ordered a drink at the archaically cash-only bar (it's 2022, such a thing should not still exist). The outside bartender (a lanky, whiny guy with long dark hair) saw me pick up my change after giving me a drink and started telling me to put some of it back down as a tip (which I planned to do until this preemptive entitlement came out). He then reiterated, "I'm talking to you, don't put all your cash away, you have to leave me a tip." I understand that you're slammed and deserve to receive tips (if you're giving quality service) but you shouldn't be harassing and yelling at your customers if they don't leave one. If it's mandatory, you need to say so beforehand or just include it in the pricing. And also if it's required, why give back all of the change to begin with? Makes no sense. Just because you don't like the American tipping system doesn't mean it isn't still voluntary for the customer, and it's not the customer's fault if your management underpays you. When I responded with "you're demanding a tip?" his defensiveness escalated to a ridiculously unprofessional level, and when I asked if I could leave the drink and get my money back instead, he also denied that with a loud "NO YOU CAN'T" and then yelled over to what I assume was their "bouncer", pointed at me, and said "WE'VE GOT A PROBLEM OVER HERE!" Never have I had such an outrageous experience with a bartender or anyone in the service industry for that matter. You don't get to insist on a tip, which is inherently an arbitrary amount of money. And with that level of entitlement you don't deserve a tip, or deserve anyone's business to begin with. You're pouring some Polar sparkling water, ice, and vodka into a tiny cup, and you're making a scene over not getting tipped by the customer you're already ripping off. When I walked away after leaving him his undeserved tip, he yelled "don't you dare come back to my bar" and then to another person said "can you believe this a**hole?" And turns out he told someone else that same night that their tip wasn't enough because they need to be leaving at least a dollar for each drink. Again, they clearly only get away with having staff with trashy behavior like this because they're one of the only options for a bar people have in this overrated town. Otherwise any normal business knows trying to have any customer that doesn't tip you thrown out of the bar is a terrible business model. Not to mention you could probably get a lawsuit against you for requiring tips since the IRS would not consider it a tip if it's mandatory. Either way, this bartender should be fired and find a line of work that doesn't require dealing with the public, or a place that actually understands basic customer service principles, and the bar owner should be ashamed for hiring this individual and allowing them to be blatantly hostile to customers. This person needs a serious ego check. I highly recommend everyone take their business to any other bar in the area. read more

I was visiting Ptown and went here for a night. This club attracts a sizeable crowd. I found it quite expensive for what it offers. The cover was $20 but I did not find any amenities inside justifying that much money. Drinks were quite expensive for what they were. They only do basic drinks and serve them in tiny cups. The first drink I got was weak but I switched to another bartender and that improved. Music was nice but there was a repetitive pattern in it. Maybe it's just their theme. I liked it nevertheless. The crowd is overwhelmingly non-diverse. As a POC, I felt like an outsider. But that's not specific to this club and rather applies to much of Provincetown. read more

Great neighborhood bar. Friendly service. The 3 different scented candles and the fireplace going all made it had for myself to stay. Lots of coughing from the scents and smoke. We could stay no more than an hour before we had to leave. Hopefully will not be like that come the summer. read more

Truly the embodiment of the Provincetown ripoff. They charge $20 cover, make it cash only, and then can't even throw you a bone if you'd like to drink a water. I was here tonight and paid for several drinks including some for my friends. Then when I tried to drink water to keep going so I could a) not die and b) stay out later and inevitably spend more money at this place, I was told that I had to pay $4 for a 250 mL bottle of water. I have been coming to the A house for close to 20 years and have always had a great time and they have always had a friendly staff. On Monday August 5th I went with old friends that have been there multiple times and new friends that have never been. The bartender upstairs was Rude as could be as I ordered drinks he had no smile or nothing and just smirked. Then when he returned my change just threw it on the bar and walked away. We were not drunk at all so whatever his attitude was whatever. The door man even worse to one of us cause he tripped and was told he was drunk and had to leave ? He didn't even have a whole drink! Having visited P-Town during Women's Week for Jenna C's birthday, I found myself escaping to this gay bar for a short while--and thank goodness the men were there to report. A small little bar attached to one of Provincetown's most popular gay dance clubs, this place is great for drinks & mingling with friends or strangers. Take a seat at the bar but be aware, the stools are old and quite loose--I may or may not have looked like an ass hat when I attempted to plop down. The bartender is quick to serve and happy to dish the sauce. The men are friendly (Oh yeah, we've left Boston) and are more than happy to strike up a conversation. The bar is dimly lit and resembles that of an old colonial house or barn. The bathroom doors mimic an outhouse and yet there is video poker lurking off in the corner--makes sense, right? I loved this place. I needed beer. I needed to be around men. For a moment I thought I was a straight dude hittin' up my local sports pub on game day. read more

Everyone was incredibly wonderful at the bar and upstairs club. My friend and I went to the downstairs dance club on a Tuesday night. We were the only customers in that side of the bar. We were looking for a queer place to dance. My buddy plugged their phone in the outlet above the fire alarm. A man from the bar accosted them and told them "not to pull the fire alarm" I told the bartender they were just plugging in their phone, and were about to order drinks. Bartender said he "saw us playing with the fire alarm" I said they were only plugging in their phone at the outlet above it. He was a piece of shit to us--and seemed a little trans phobic. Horrible experience. I'm a female and went with a lesbian couple. Everything was fine (aside from the absurdly strong reek of urine and BO) until the last 30 min or so when a rude man kept aggressively ramming into us on the dance floor. Turns out he was doing it on purpose and when we politely asked him to stop he got in our face and told us to get out and we don't belong there and flicked his hand towards the door motioning for us to leave. Several other men got between us bc it looked as if he was actually going to physically attack us! When we told the bouncer he said there was nothing he could do! B.S.!!! A-House... Oh how drunk you made me! Seriously, the drinks are 98% alcohol, 1% ice, and 1% mixer. The first sip might taste just you straight-up tipped the bottle into your mouth, but you get use to it. In the main room there are 3 separate bars, and outside there are an additional 3 bars. You don't have to wait for a drink, and both nights we went the bartenders remembered our orders and all we had to say was "another round"! It rocked! Bartenders in underwear is usually pretty cool - but the one was a little scary... The Gaucho from Uruguay. His junk was massive, and not in a cool way! I came on the off-season and in the early evening, so there were mostly locals inside and it wasn't crowded. Expect no frills. They don't even have cherries, so their mixed drinks selection is limited. With that said, the bartender gave me a hefty tall cup of Baileys on the rocks instead. So I sipped my Baileys and fell in love with all of the bottles, oars and other nautical objects that look like they're for whaling that adorn the bar. Upstairs later I suppose they have gay porn, but it was locked up when I was there. Ok... so the A House... what can I tell you? It is a must in the Provincetown night scene. You will feel like you are tripping your ass off when you walk on the dance floor b/c of all the lights and smoke effects. Don't be totally turned off if you happen to rub up against some half naked hairy men who don't seem to have discovered the usefulness of deodorant. All I heard was how great the DJ was for months before my first trip to P-town. Well, the first night was a disaster. The music was old disco, and a few 80's songs thrown in. And then the killer, a horrible, washed up singer named France (I think that was her name). A few nights later, the music was better, but the crowd is nasty. Very few hot guys, a ton of drunk knuckledraggers falling all over each other. And the place needs a renovation. It smells like piss. The dancefloor is too small. But the worst part was the drag show at the end of each night. Way to kill an event. For $10 I expect much more than ugly drunks, mediocre music, and pathetic drag queens. read more

Lose your shirt at the door! Went here for a night of dancing on my last night on Cape Cod. Wow, shirtless men everywhere. Where to look first? Small and expensive drinks, but potent. Dance floor is smaller than I expected and it fills up quickly. House music was decent. Danced for quite some time, until it became so packed that it was no longer dancing but was avoidance of getting stepped on or rubbed against by very sweaty men. .Went here with my husband during our 2nd honeymoon vacation. We had a blast! There are essentailly three bars. The one downstairs, which is small laid back and fun ( they served in plastic cups, but the drinks are still strong and good), the one upstairs from there which has a much more sexual nature (porn on the tv and guys doing things in the corners of the dark room), and the club which has a cover, but is more than worth it to dance on the floor with my hubby and all the other guys having a great time! I would recomend a jack and coke or a gin and tonight. The bartenders were also very friendly as was the woman outside the club checking IDs and taking covers! We were two straight women looking for some good, clean fun and were recommended this place by our hotel check-in agent who told us that the 9pm Drag Bingo is a fun time. We got there about 8:50 and walked in to a dark, seedy room with one bartender and 1 patron at the corner of the bar. We asked about the bingo and they said to come back at around 9:30-ish.
