I never know whether to trust rave reviews on Yelp, but in the case of Brian Ludlow, owner of…read moreLudlow's Handyman Services, the five star ratings are spot on accurate. I needed a mailbox installed and had tried for 3 months to schedule various handyman recommended by neighbors. I finally took things into my own hands and searched for a reputable and highly rated handyman on Yelp. There were several options to choose from, but I was immediately drawn to Brian's business because it is locally owned and operated by him. Plus, I really liked his bio. I could tell he was someone who enjoyed his work and was focused on high quality outcomes for customer projects. Brian did not disappoint. Every step of the process was a good one. My first point of contact was through Yelp messaging. That's when I first knew I was on the right track because Brian promptly replied. Moreover, his communication skills were excellent from the get-go. He was able to fit me into his schedule a few days after my request. He arrived on time prepared with what he needed to do the job. Everything went smoothly, especially because Brian and I had reviewed the installation instructions through photos I attached to our Yelp messages. He was able to acquire the remaining needed materials that I did not have on hand. Brian clearly knew what he was doing and got the mailbox installed without any problems. He charged a reasonable amount and was a pleasure to work with. I had a great customer experience. I already have other projects lined up for him. Living in a 200-year-old home is going to provide plenty of opportunities to call on Brian's experience and excellent problem-solving skills.

If you need a job done and you want it done with minimal stress, call a professional company that's reliable. You may pay a bit less elsewhere but, to me, it's not worth the stress of wondering if they're going to reply to your request for a quote or if they're going to show up at the appointed time. Mr. Handyman showed up when they said they would and the price was reasonable. The pricing structure was fully explained and their staff person was polite and professional.

Despite faithfully following the directions and lots of time on YouTube, I just couldn't get the pieces to fit together perfectly. Found Magic Hands here on Yelp. Spoke to Ricky, explained my situation. The fact that I'm in Lansdowne (not really his core area) and only needed an hour or two of help to get me on track, probably made this a bit less than his most enticing job of the week. Nevertheless, he worked with me to find a time that worked for both of us. He sent his guy Chris, who was terrific - polite, professional, very competent, and - best of all - very patient with me as he showed me how to do the job, what I'd been doing wrong, etc. I still pan to be a DIYer whenever possible, but I've saved Magic Hands' number in my phone, just in case!

The weatherstripping on the back door had always been a little discombobulated. I did not mention this, but when I got home Phil had gone ahead and fixed it. The entire job was done above and beyond my expectations. Everything was also completed for a little less than the quote! That was a pleasant surprise. I definitely plan to hire Phil again! All this being said, I give Phil my highest recommendation and suggest that you hire him too!

If I could give them less than one star I would. We've used them for some small outside work in the…read morepast and so when it came time for a simple cabinet replacement, we decided to use them again. I should mention that my husband is a builder and felt comfortable enough with their relationship to believe they could handle a small job. The owner, Mike, came in and assessed the work. Again, this was to be a simple replacement of exactly the design and basic cabinetry we already had. The first thing that was disappointing was that we couldn't get a cabinet front or color we really wanted, so we compromised and chose one of the two cabinet styles he carried. Then the poo hit the fan. EVERY step after that, they made mistake after mistake. I was clear time and time again about exactly what I wanted. They screwed up orders, placement, reorders. There basically wasn't anything they didn't mess up. And the owner lied through his teeth about making good on his mistakes. His project manager, Chris, actually confided in me that he wasn't even supposed to be on this job and knew nothing about it until Mike told him, well after there was trouble, to go in and try and oversee the job. He complained that there were no drawings, no records and that he came in blind and had to try to do the best he could, which wasn't even close enough. I ended up with cabinets that I'm so unhappy with that I'm actually considering hiring another company to come in and redo their work. That's how bad they are. The only positive I can say is that we were about to hire them for a huge kitchen renovation that would have cost an arm and a leg. Lesson learned. We'll be using someone else.

When he saw the location and size of the hole and age of the house, he suggested redoing the entire ceiling (which I am glad we did!) he quoted me a price to do the entire job, and even let me lower the price by allowing me to do the demo and painting myself. Once I had opened up the entire ceiling, I found a joist that seriously concerned me, it had been poorly notched for a drain line, and was beginning to crack... Bob easily and professionally sistered the joist, to reenforce the structural integrity of the ceiling, and even repaired the masonry in the wall. Even with the extra work the job was done ahead of schedule and under budget! The quality of the work is second to none and Bob is great at maintaining constant communication. There was never a point at which I did not know what was going on. I could not be happier.
