What a great find! I stopped in because of the South Sound Book Crawl and my wallet trembled in fear. They have an amazing curation of new and used books. I was impressed by the special editions they carried and was impressed by their reasonable pricing. My favorite part was seeing all the local authors featured! We have a lot of literary talent in the PNW and it's even better when purchased from a local bookstore. Come when you have plenty of time! I had to rush a bit because I was fitting it in while in the area and I could spend hours here. Each genre is filled with options and there are so, so many. What attracted me to this bookstore is the fact I saw Bluey on the display. I then came in realizing this was a bookstore. I usually don't go to bookstore, but I thought this place was actually very neat with all the selections that were available on that day. The upstairs is for children's books, but I really had to dig 'round in the different bins for Peppa Pig as the bookstore manager confirmed Bluey is a more popular character right now because I made a comment that Bluey was everywhere and had its own little display section around the store. Anyway, I was able to walk out with one book for myself to read and other books (Peppa Pig and Bluey) for my daughter to read. Oh, this place sells new and gently used books. You can trade in your old books for store credits from what I remember from my conversation with the store manager. It's a neat store to check out books in my opinion as it isn't overwhelmingly huge like Barnes & Noble. It's cute and quaint. I was rather shocked with the foot traffic that the store was receiving on that Friday morning. read more

I love this book shop! It's so cute, cozy, quaint and clever. Have you found the framed Fabio photo?! Have you ventured to the kid's nook? (Technically I did not but I did send the 8 year old and did not see him again for a good ten minutes!) There are lots of great and helpful employees and wonderful patrons roving about. Maybe that's the only downside: you have to scoot about a bit to make your way through the wonderful aisles and book cases. But then that makes you wonder: oooo what did THEY discover that I have yet to find?! Definitely go here and give this business your business! read more

The most magical place I've been to. I'm only visiting and am so bummed that I can't come here all the time. Their selection is extremely reasonable, with a huge inventory. The people who work here are literal angels, and I seriously can't recommend coming here enough! One special thing I loved is they have mystery surprise books that only have the genre and a tiny bit of info about the book. They're really inexpensive and so fun! Love supporting the local bookstore! Visited twice in the last two months and they have decent discounted deals for their books. The staff knows their regulars and as a new customer, they never made me feel uncomfortable. The books are in good condition, except the books dated back in the 2000s or older, but its only the paperback spines. Overall, I love visiting this bookstore. I honestly take more than 30 minutes trying to decide what I want to read for the month. read more

I absolutely loved this shop and could have easily spent a full day here. I wanted to but the hubby and kids overruled me, so... Anyhow, this spot was nice and cozy and they had some true gems. I loved all of the sections that they had, including the little nook with kids books. I'd love one without kids books, but good for the kids. My favorite section is where they had a place for people to put the books they want to sell. I like the equity because I have a hard time selling books in Berkeley, CA. They don't take my books or they take two bags of books and give me $5. Really?!? And I'm a book nerd so I read and I take good care of my books, better care of them than other things. But I hear about how old my books are and how they can't take them. But I peruse the shelves and see books older than me and wonder how that happened. I think that they don't believe that the books belong to me. Actually, one guy yelled at me when I brought in my grad school books to sell and he wanted to know where I got the books and complained that they were old. I was worried they wouldn't return the book to me. I also realized that when selling books I have to dress up and look more professional, no more gym attire, although it hasn't worked. I say all that to say that the equitable, anonymous system they set up to buy books from customers is fantastic! The people here are totally nice and I don't think they'd see a black person come in with a bunch of books and assume that I found them somewhere or that they'd need to justify how they got the book. So that type of equity is important and I found it in Sumer, WA, not Berkeley, CA (I can't say I'm surprised about Berkeley). I would come to Sumner for this alone. I am new to Bonney Lake and stumbled upon this gem when I discovered adorable downtown Sumner. The staff is always welcoming and does a great job of matching their customers energy. The first time I went in I had a few questions and they were available and informative. The second time in I took my niece and let them know we would be browsing a while; they let us browse and enjoy the shop without hovering while we perused for an hour. The selection is great, and I love the mix of used and new books. I especially appreciate the classics section, which you don't find as often in small shops. I see many people saying their prices aren't low enough, and I have to disagree. My niece bought six hard cover books for just under $100, much cheaper than if we purchase anywhere else. And I'm supporting local business? Win win!! read more

Downtown Sumner continues to impress me. This quaint little local bookshop has everything you need and nothing you don't. The shopkeepers are friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The shelves are well curated with fun new releases and old classics. Prices are reasonable and they have many fun, decorative books for your shelves. My husband and I stumbled upon this little Sumner gem while attending the Rhubarb Festival, and we're so glad we did! This place exudes charm and whimsy. It is just such an inviting space with TONS of character. It also has a great collection of books, with a good mix of new and used options to choose from. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, the owner and all of the staff were delightful. They took time to engage with customers and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. The whole experience was just such a breath of fresh air. We purchased a bag full o' goodies and are already looking forward to going back. Adorable shop in downtown Sumner. Great service. It's very cozy, and can be a little tight if it's busy. Prices are about average but I don't mind paying to support a local book store. They have fun little games in some parts of the store you can play if you pay attention. I think they have a decent selection of material but don't know if you can order through them. f you don't care for customer service, and might want to find a book that may be out-of-print, come here. Otherwise, don't...especially if you're not a regular/someone with kids, or from what I personally experienced, White. I'm not one to pull out the race card but I most definitely will when I experience it at a place of business. Upon entering, I was quite excited to check out their "Classics" section. I wasn't greeted or anything despite there being 3 people at the register and they were not preoccupied with any customers. I just noticed that the "regulars" and people that had children received a lot of attention but didn't care too much because I get it, they know each other. It wasn't until I checked out when I started getting irritated and noticed how the people of this establishment treat either people of color or people that are new. You'd think that a small independent bookstore such as this would want to welcome anyone and everyone that is willing to support their business. Anyways, the young male had me waiting while he talked to this woman and her child...spewing out compliments on whatever they were wearing, etc. I stood there, smiling, waiting patiently. The brunette woman behind him looked at me (as there was another register RIGHT THERE she could've used) and upon reading her facial expressions she at first contemplated checking me out but decided against it. Thanks lady. Then, the woman ahead of me FINALLY left and the guy proceeded to check me out. He acted very "friendly", I could tell it was fake, but I said "thank you" no response and I decided to test out a theory so I said "have a nice day!" and he went "mmhmm". Hahahaha, when I know very well as it's a small book shop (close quarters so easy to hear almost anything such a pin drop) that most of the people he interacted with he never responded like that! What a terrible business, I understand though that the high ratings are probably because the population is primarily locals and no one of color probably. Go ahead and respond to this as you disagree or roll your eyes, but this is just my experience, and I am not an idiot. read more

The best way to describe this is: a lovely and quaint shop. Since I have 3 kids, the children's area upstairs in our favorite spot. The train set is such a nice touch, especially since it keeps my youngest from simply yanking books off the shelf. Downstairs, there are small specific racks (of books) in random places-like, a rack of spy novels during WWII. It has a lot of great small touches, some hand written signs here and there. There's even a few toys downstairs so kids can be occupied so "mama can look at this really quick". I went into the shop earlier today as a returning customer. Signs all around the shop say that new books have green price stickers and any book without a sticker is half priced. I found a book I wanted that did not have a sticker on it. I asked the person at the counter if I was interpreting the signs correctly, they said yes, and I continued to browse. When I get to the counter with my final selection, a book without a sticker, the same person at the counter says there was a mistake and this book is not half priced. The person was not even apologetic about the situation. I understand a $14 loss on a book for them isn't nothing, but I will not be returning to the shop ever again and I know that loss is much greater. The book IS half priced on Amazon and I don't feel good about shopping there but I feel I was left no choice in this situation. Very disappointing. read more

I am a tried and true bibliophile. The benefits of having a book store in the middle of your town is beyond amazing! This little gem is a great find. The selection of books is great for a small store and the adult coloring books were a great selection! I bought several of these books and a shirt that days "Reader". As a literature professor, I am enamoured with books and all the enticing little extras this book store carries. It will be a new great find. It's a great bookstore, but it's not the bookstore I remember from years ago. It used to be slightly disorganized and the prices were what you might expect from a used bookstore. Now, however, it's more like a large chain bookstore. They have more new books than used. Some books are $16, $14, $10... A standard mass market paperback will probably sell for cover price, $6 to $8. And an old vintage book from the seventies, $2. They do accept used books for store credit toward 50% of your purchase. So if you have $10 of store credit and buy $5 worth of books (or book), $2.50 is deducted via store credit and you pay $2.50. It's a good way to get 50% off and make the prices a lot more reasonable. They are super organized now, and offer a couple areas for the kiddos to play. The children's books are upstairs. They have a great selection of multiple genres, even the classics and pulp fiction. But it's definitely not a garage sale kind of bookstore anymore. It's more upscale, like the surrounding antique stores and boutique shops. read more

I was in search of a newer publication by one of my favorite authors. I knew I could probably find and purchase it online but prefer the hands-on experience of a good bookstore. This gem of a store is not only in the quaint part of Sumner, but I also felt like I'd walked into a fantasy. Everything about A Good Book is warm and inviting - it drew me in. Nice little hole in the wall book store located in Sumner. Stopped for the first time today for small business saturday and found some fun books for my 7 year old. The prices aren't any different than any other book store around though (such as a Barnes and Noble) so I wouldn't go in looking for a deal. It's more for the experience of a quaint little book store. I'll keep ordering off of Amazon, I feel like I get a better price and don't have to leave my house. I am delighted to find this book store. I went in looking for Slaughter House 5 and found the paper backs wrapped in brown paper with a message on the outside. I bought 13 of those books plus the one I went in for. I have given 12 away to folks who loved the authors and the books. I have just finish number 13, Innocence by David Hosp and couldn't put it down, what a great new author to find.
