Perry was really great. We had a squirrel get stuck in our wall and ultimately died after chewing wires for our fireplace. He helped us get the body out before it started rotting. He spotted the fur tucked back behind the sheet metal, and went the extra mile to solve the problem. He then fixed the wiring - now everything is back to normal. We recently had our bunny chew through some cords for our fireplace and I was thankful to find this company! They were very responsive and called back same day to get me scheduled for an appointment. They were upfront about cost beforehand which was super nice to know ahead of time. Perry arrived 5 minutes early and was a really nice guy. He was friendly to my kids and dog. Perry the technician was great. He was fast, polite, and fixed the problem. I did not like that I was not told they do not take credit cards when I made the appointment. The yelp listing gave the impression they did. Luckily I had the cash. Also I did not like the $200 flat fee. So it took an hour and it was $200 (plus parts) If it had taken five hours it would have been the same price. So I feel like I am subsidizing the more time consuming repairs. I was having trouble with my gas stove. Perry not only came out and fixed it, but gave me a lot of tips about how to improve things. He walked me through how to do things on my own and cleaned up my fireplace. He then added some additions to make it look better. I had an issue with my fireplace. I did some initial research of my own on the Internet, and thought that it might've been a faulty igniter. I contacted A+ Fireplace, and the gentleman reached out to me and told me that he thought that my conclusion was right that I needed a new igniter, and he even provided me a link to an Amazon provider where I could buy my own replacement instead of charging what would've been $300 from other providers, he gave me that for free I installed it this morning and it works just fine. We just moved into our new to us home and we were told by Northwest Natural not to use the gas fireplace until it was cleaned. We went into The Portland Fireplace Shop and they directed us to Perry Tompson of A+ Fireplace Service. Once Perry showed up- we could tell he was an expert in this field of repair and service. If you want reliable service, this is not the company. Perry came out to repair our gas fireplace in early October. He cleaned it, said it was working fine and only needed to be serviced. I paid him $180 and thought all was well. A week later, the same problem with the pilot light happened again and the unit quit working. When I called him to tell him it wasn't fixed and the same problem is occurring, he said the soonest he could come out was in early December. That meant we had to wait two months through the winter to have him fix the pilot light we'd already paid him to fix. I took the appointment after he convinced me no one else could come sooner. I called him again mid November asking if there wasn't some way he could fit us in as we are older and always home and this is the only heat we have for the living room. He asked why I thought I should get "special treatment"? When I told him I thought it was only right he fix it sooner because we'd already paid him and he didn't fix it, he just laughed. I found someone else who could come in a week. Now I have to pay twice to have the pilot light replaced. read more

Our 5 year old frequently used gas fireplace was lighting up but quickly turning off. I called A+ due to a recommendation from a local HVAC business. I called and left a message and Perry returned my call in the evening that same day just like he states in his voicemail message. I think I called on a Wednesday and he had a slot on Monday. He arrived at 9:30 and left around 10 with the issue fixed! He also added embers beneath the flames which he mentioned were supposed to be in there but never were. Our fireplace works and also looks a lot more beautiful now thanks to the embers he added. Give this place a call, I'm sure you'll be happy with this choice! read more

Simply the best! Perry came to our mountain house up near Gov't Camp to take a look at our gas fireplace. He was the third guy over the past three months to come up and see about fixing it. The pilot light wouldn't stay lit. The last guys tried convincing me that the entire unit (and rock wall it is built in to) had to be replaced to the tune of between $8,000-$12,000. I found Perry online and he told me that he's been repairing fireplaces since the 70's and if he can't fix it, nobody could. HE WAS SO RIGHT! Took him about 20 minutes and bam, it's fixed.
