I came here to write about how far this company has fallen in quality and have found a lot of reviews saying the same thing. It's sad really. Ultimately, ACA was once considered the best bang-for-your-buck yard-work service that you paid a little more for than the budget priced guys but got really quality work. Over the last few years, they've increased their prices exponentially and decreased their quality. I recognize the prices of things have gone up in recent years but there's no excuse for the terrible service. I scheduled them for a (over-priced) yard clean-up with 5 yards of mulch. Their office location repeatedly rescheduled it without informing us and I had to hound them to get answers about the availability. Eventually, the person I was speaking with even admitted they had no clue when they'd come out. Terrible communication / management that impacted what day my wife would go into the office that week. The actual work done was sub-par as well. Three folks showed up and made a really poor effort to remove weeds, leaving a ton behind, and then sloppily threw mulch on top of them, scattering it all over my yard as well. What a pain the next time a mowed the lawn! They tore out three completely healthy rosemary bushes that I used on a regular basis and completely mangled a rose bush that was a gift from my wife's grandfather before he passed away. The edging was poor and sloppy and they didn't ask anything of us. Ultimately, they got the job done and they did it on a short timeline because of rain last week having pushed the date and that's the primary reason why they got 2 stars instead of 1; but I don't know that I'll ever use them again. read more

I called ACutAbove on Friday about the condition they left my yard in, and by Monday I was so frustrated that I cancelled my services entirely. This company advertises "weekly" lawn service, but interprets that as cutting twice in one week - Saturday, then again on Monday because it's technically a "new week." While they're affordable, their timing and judgment are terrible. They showed up at 7:15am on a Monday to mow my lawn after 4 straight days of rain. The results speak for themselves: my lawn is destroyed. Theyve torn out grass and churned up mud all over my sod, even leaving muddy tire tracks throughout the yard, and created huge piles of soaked grass clippings that dried into brown patches, killing sections of my lawn. I joined the lawn mowing program earlier this summer after my previous long-term lawn mowing provider retired. I don't personally live at this detached property and decided to choose A Cut Above since they communicate by email and offer yearly services. I received multiple complaints from my neighbors due to lawn mowing between 7:00-8:00am, which includes my neighbors next to my property and neighbors down the street. I have neighbors that have infants, children, and elders that are repeatedly being inconvenienced due to the loudness of their lawn mowing. I submitted a ticket and received a response (image added) that was unsatisfactory with no effort to determine a compromise. I'm disappointed and frustrated to have paid for a service that lacks consideration and respect to their customers. I need a lawn mowing service that won't create a negative and hostile environment for myself and my future tenants. I will search for an alternative solution and don't recommend A Cut Above if you have neighbors. read more

WOW. How pathetic and unprofessional that Mr. Korfonta must lie. We never demanded $10,000+ and were entirely professional in all correspondence. I have attached the emails as photos. Please read for yourself. Sam (who is lovely) initially reached out to let us know of the damage then Chris Korfonta got involved. You can see we had no issues and were trying to work with ACA to address the issue and ensure the fence was fixed properly. It was ACA's OWN person who came out initially and said the damage was more extensive than expected. Furthermore, Mr. Korfonta lacks the business acumen to understand that townhome owners turn into single-family homeowners AND townhome owners have many single-family homeowner family and friends. AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS. There are so many better options run by actual professionals. *** I did not call the ACA office and berate Mr. Korfonta. Unfortunately, he continues to lie and behave unprofessionally. The emails are evidence of his inability to be truthful as are all the other negative reviews he responded to in a childish and untruthful manner. They just canceled my service, with zero notice, it's late March now. They canceled after sending out a mass email saying their routes were 75% full and they were looking to start up service again soon. Sorry, but that's just a terrible business practice. They haven't touched my lawn since November, and now that business is starting up again they are no longer servicing my area? That's awfully convenient for them. I used to enjoy working with A Cut Above, but then we had an incident late last year. They emailed me letting me know they would be completing service on Tuesday. I cleared the lawn. Came home Tuesday night and everything looked good so I put out some lights again. Before 8 AM the next morning, I heard the mowers and I ran outside (in my pajamas) to pick up the lights but they were already destroyed. I emailed customer service asking them to please be more thoughtful and was told to go kick rocks. Zero accountability, zero apologies, they just restated their policy. A simple "sorry about that" would have gone a long way. At least a heads up would have been nice so I could have lined up a new service. Overall, I regret working with them. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. They will treat you like trash and do not provide good service. The first time they mowed my grass, they only cut half of the backyard and left mud/mower tracks all over our driveway and grass. When they came back a second time, they mowed the entire backyard but again destroyed our yard with their mowers and left mud/mower tracks all over. Killed our grass in a lot of areas. We had prepaid for 5 mows and after this, we asked to cancel and get a partial refund since we didn't want our yard to keep being destroyed. Chris Korfonta, their COO, responded back saying that it was my unmaintained lawn's fault and to read their terms and conditions because no refunds are given and to not contact him again. Very unprofessional and I'd recommend you steer clear from this sketchy business. UPDATE AFTER COMMENT: - They called my yard "extremely overgrown/run-down property". It's a 2005 custom built single family home on 1/2 acre - that was previously professionally maintained by another yard service company. This was the first cut of the season that I hired them for, but that is an extremely untrue comment. - They said I only contacted 3+ months later, but that was only after they never responded to my emails and just sent me an auto-response cancelling service when I reached out trying to resolve this 3 months ago. Nor did I beg. I politely asked for a refund. - They say I have a history of leaving bad reviews, but this is only the 2nd time I've ever left a bad review - I'm not normally one to complain. I am using this company for leaf removal service because A) I have a baby this year and B) I just had surgery on my back. Their prices are very reasonable, and they were able to come out within a matter of days. When the team arrived, they were fast and professional, and there is not one leaf left to been seen anywhere in my yard! I'm sure all my neighbors who raked for hours to still have some debris hanging around their yard are going to be pretty jealous. This was so inexpensive and easy that I'm tempted to just keep doing it every year moving forward. Is that lazy? Meh. It saves me a weekend!!! P.S. They do two appearances, once in November and once in Decemeber, as the leaves tend to come in two waves. A Cut Above has damaged the relationship I had with my neighbors! We asked their crew repeatedly to stop blowing leaves and debris to our property while tending to my neighbors yard. They refused, laughed and ignored the multiple requests we made in an effort to not involve the neighbors. Once the last request was made recently and frustration had reached its pique and voices were raised the neighbors started harassing us. The police were involved and it got ugly! If a cut above could've just compiled and respected us then this wouldn't have happened. I hold them accountable! read more

We hired A Cut Above for a six-part treatment of our lawn but it only lasted 2 until we couldn't take any more. They said they came out 3 times but they only did 2 and I have the camera footage downloaded and ready to prove. Prior to hiring them, we read some reviews saying that they are unprofessional and rude. The owner would respond to those reviews calling the customers "wacky" or claiming that the customer is lying that they use A Cut Above. The customer reviews were true. They are extremely inconsistent when it comes to notifying you of when they will come out. They will just show up to your door sometimes without prior notifications. Sometimes, they'll send you a notification saying they're coming but then they never do. Chris is not the most professional person to work with. He seems to have a difficult time accepting responsibility and deflects a lot of blame to the customer and tries to circumvent monumental issues. One treatment, a guy came out and sprayed our front lawn with something. I know this happened because the front and back of my house have cameras pointed at the lawns that go off when it detects motion. The front camera triggered but the back didn't. We then reached out to their customer service saying they never came to our backyard. Chris replied with yes they did and just seemed immovable with the idea that they are incapable of making mistakes. It's ok to make mistakes; we are all human, it happens. Let's just work through it. Instead of accepting responsibility and continuing with this transaction, Chris fought tooth and nail claiming they did service the backyard. I went through my backyard camera and found nothing for that day. Fast forward one day, Chris sends over a picture of the backyard that was serviced and it turned out to be our neighbor's backyard. It was this point where I started to get really worried. We then send him a picture of our backyard vs the backyard picture he sent and told him that he did the wrong backyard. We then tell him that there are kids aged 2-5 that play in that yard every day and that he just sprayed a yard with chemicals..... at that point we were really upset because they are putting other people's children in danger. 2 days later I go to my front yard and see that the weeds are dead.... They sprayed weed killer chemicals..you sprayed a lawn with weed killer..With children playing in it..And their parents didn't know..Immediately when I found out that he serviced the wrong backyard, I promptly went over to my neighbor to notify them of this error and for them to keep off of their lawn. I notify Chris of this huge error where he placed children in danger. We are extremely upset at this point. His response was something so far out of left field that I sat here so dazed and confused. He responds by saying "our lawn is in such poor condition and it needs a lot of water." I respond to him saying that services or money by either party have just gone out the window. I told him that I don't want a refund or anything because at this point, his refusal to accept the fact that he placed children in danger was evident of a larger issue - this is criminal negligence at this point. I then submitted a complaint with the Virginia Attorney General's office of this negligence. I will not accept businesses placing other people's children in danger and not accepting one iota of responsibility for it. I even told him to come out to my neighbor's house to apologize to the parents but they never did. And I'll write this just in case Chris claims that we "aren't in his database as customers" or that we "were wacky customers" or that "our lawn was very poorly maintained/overgrown/rundown." Chris - you placed CHILDREN in DANGER and didn't notify their PARENTS of said DANGER. This isn't about lawn services or email communications. This is about your negligence and placing CHILDREN in danger. Do not use A Cut Above. Please. read more

Oh, this is a real review. It seems to me that the owners of this company are quite happy to treat people badly, then act like it never happened. They may have a 4.9/5 star review, but if you look at the reviews I've posted about other companies in the Loudoun County area, I clearly praise companies that deserve it. A Cut Above doesn't deserve praise. Not only did I get poor service to begin with, they're now accusing me of posting a fake review. Given the way they're behaving, I'd rather buy goats to take care of my landscaping. *UPDATE* According to Yelp guidelines. I used this company for about 5 months. While I will say they do a decent job cutting the grass, it is the customer service piece that made me rank them so low. When I initially contacted the company seeking service, I made it clear I only needed 4 months of service - that was extended to 5 due to a delay in my return from overseas. The Chief Operating Officer sent me a note saying while the contract is usually for 12 months, he'd be willing to "help me out" and charge me only the monthly rate for the time of service. During this 5 month period, in addition to the lawn cutting service, I also hired two specialty services which were quite expensive, but the price was clear and paid in full. When the 5 months came to an end, the contract was terminated without contacting me first - I would have extended it had they contacted me first as, up to this point, I was relatively pleased with the service. Worse, without any prior notification I was charged an additional almost $250 for "balance due." As I paid the monthly service fee at the beginning of each month I believed I had no balance so I contacted the company. After some back and forth, I was finally able to speak (email) to the COO whom I spoke with prior to signing up for the service. He informed me I had canceled prior to the full year, my plan was based on a 12 month "financing" plan, and I owed the balance. I forwarded the original email indicating I was not on a year plan which did not make a difference and the charge remained. While opinions may vary, to me a company is only as good as the word of their leadership. In my experience, A Cut Above does not fulfill their word and therefore, I cannot recommend them to anyone. Sure, they cut the grass fine, but so does just about every other company in the area. Give me a fair price, stick to your agreement, and we have no problem. Is that too much to ask? We contacted A Cut Above in February as our lawn was in extremely poor shape. We had numerous bare patches, mossy areas, and plenty of crab grass. Having tried a couple of different services over the years, we could never find a company we were satisfied with. So far, we're really happy with A Cut Above. I have used A Cut Above for 7+ years now, and the service has gradually improved year over year as the company grows and matures. This is not the cheapest service out there, but what I've learned is that you get what you pay for. My lawn went through years of cheap lawn service and both front and back yards became uneven with many bare patches. After switching to a more professional service, it took several years to undo the damage, but now my yard looks very even and well kept. The mowing is done very professionally and quickly. In recent years, A Cut Above has gone beyond the contracted services, in fact this past month they trimmed some of the branches on the tree in front of my house without my asking and at no additional cost. Earlier during spring clean-up they removed a bush that fell over for free. The company has strict guidelines on its procedures, but I see this as a way to maintain quality service and treat all customers fairly. Having said that, they were flexible with me on the timing of my annual renewal. I was out of town for Thanksgiving and missed the deadline for early renewal discount. I explained the situation and was given a one day grace period to qualify for the discount. Overall I'm very pleased with the company and how my yard looks today backs this up. read more

2 stars: 1 for regular schedule, and 1 for not killing half my yard. These positive reviews must be from big yard single family home people. I don't think ACA sent their landscape aces to my little townhouse last year. Sure, they came out and mowed every week, and occasionally treated, per contract. But before last year, I had one of the better yards on my row. After last year w/ ACA, my back yard is almost entirely dirt, and my buried downspout is sunken from being stomped on, so now it's a mosquito breeding water hole. Front yard still looks okay; kudos to the front yard weed whacker guy, but screw that back yard lawn mower guy. Now my back yard will need resodding, or maybe artificial turf. ACA saved me from mowing last year, but this year I'm back to mowing it myself, and now I'll have to pay extra to fix my back yard. On the business side, it feels like they're too focused on getting paid ASAP. I traded one hassle of doing my own yard work, for the hassle of having someone bothering me because they hadn't received payment only 3-4 days after I got their invoice. They don't seem to understand that some people might prefer online bill pay where the bank mails a check, versus the ACA website's only option of having you enter your credit card so ACA can pull payment at their convenience. At the end of lawn season, they invoiced me for a month like usual, I paid, and then a week later I got another invoice, followed by hassling to pay it ASAP. As if I have nothing better to do with my time than ensure my lawn service gets paid on whatever erratic schedule they decide. This kind of hassle, to deal with people who left my back yard a patch of dirt - not worth it. Maybe they treat their big yard customers better, and maybe those big yards suit their business model better. That's fine if that's their target market; I just wish they'd have turned me down when I asked them to handle my tiny yard. read more
