They prepared us for two days of work, but pushed hard and were done after a day and a half. Horrid experience. I used these guys because I lost the contact info of a boiler repair tech I customarily use. My issue was my water heater was acting funky (wouldn't fully heat my condo unit water). Two guys came, talked my ear off. I was trying to identify what the exact cause was. Instead of peace of mind I got a earful of scare language. One of the guys pulls out the thermal coupling and cleans it, replaces it within a span of 5-6 minutes. They charged me $170.00 for 'labor and service'. Granted it did seem to alleviate the issue luckily, yet they never told me up front any pricing or checked with me if they could do what they did, as if they had full autonomy. I especially hated the fact that they say things like 'this could make your water heater last 5 more days or 5 years, I dunno' well, if you're the water heater expert who else would know but you? My usual boiler/water-heater tech guy prob would've charged me $40.00 at the max. read more

Great to work with Tom and his team! I hired A Custom Heating to install a completely new high-efficiency furnace and air conditioning system. Basically, I had a raw industrial space with only an old furnace and ancient duct work. I brought Tom from A Custom over to take a look at it and he asked a bunch of questions and explained everything pretty clearly. Originally, I simply wanted to move the furnace and hoist a a/c unit onto my roof, using the existing ductwork. After talking to Tom for awhile, I realized that he really knew what he was talking about and without being pushy at all, he was very helpful and objectively assisted in presenting some new options and evaluating them. Eventually, we decided to completely remove the existing ductwork and install a newer, high-efficiency furnace and a/c unit, plus spiral ducts which look amazing... A Custom's pricing fell somewhere in the middle, compared to others that I had interviewed and considered... That said, Tom was definitely the most patient and offered the most options, which is exactly what I was looking for... Throughout the process, he kept me updated and immediately let me know if an issue arose (they do) and then what my options were... We had some issues getting the A/C unit onto the roof, but they came up with a unconventional and most importantly, economical, way to get it in there. Also, Tom worked very well with the other sub-contractors I had on site (plumber, electrician, carpenters), which was helpful, because I wasn't always able to be there. Bottom line: I would highly recommend working with A-Custom. I basically brought them in for the full HVAC package and they delivered in a timely, honest, and highly professional manner. read more

Our heat went out on Sunday evening and messages Tom early Monday morning to see if his team could help. He was able to send Alfredo out to take a look. Al was very courteous and made a quick diagnosis and walked me through what was wrong. He was able to quickly fix the issue, which ended up being the Heat Switch Ignitor (HSI). I'm grateful for their ability to get someone out and quickly and would recommend A Custom should you have to fix your heating and/or AC. read more

A Custom installed a AC system in our 1905 home 6 years ago and have been our service providers ever since. They were not the least expensive quote at the time, but Tom Hack's involvement pushed me over the edge to choose them and stick with them. 6 years of great service left me confident in my choice. That choice was reinforced this past winter when we had heating pipes break in our home during a cold snap. Tom and his team dropped everything to fix our problem. My pregnant wife was home alone and I was on a flight to Miami for business when the problem was discovered. Having Tom in my corner made a huge difference in turning a potential disaster into a minor inconvenience. I've had several experiences with A Custom now and all of them have been wonderful. I just had a service tune up on the AC and furnace for my condo. They're always timely and do a fast efficient job. Last summer the AC went out at my small business and called for a new unit. They were able to come out right away and assess the situation and scheduled the new instal quickly. The fellas that installed were very nice and had the job done in a short amount of time so we were able to get back up and running. I have been a loyal customer of A Custom for more years than I can remember. The main reason is that they take care of me regularly to keep everything in running order and if something goes wrong, I can count on Tom and his techs to get out here quickly and get things ship shape. I had Tom come out about a month ago. He was able to meet me at my house on a very short notice. When he got there he installed a new thermostat at my request and was able to identify the problem with my air conditioner. He repaired my existing unit and spent all the time necessary to help me understand what had happened. He also looked at my furnace and radiant heat system and offered some advice on those units as well. I would definitely use Tom again and will call him when my water heater and furnace go out (they are both very old). read more

I found out that my wife was paying $15 a month for their maintenance plan, for quite some time. We have since cancelled it. I think its a good business plan, it brings in a steady stream of income and requires a minimal amount of labor/time. I just dropped their rating by a star, due to the amount of money we have been charged. There was nothing seedy or dishonest about the company. They are friendly and knowledgeable. I just do not feel that the overall amount of money we have been charged by the company was equivalent to the level of service received. read more

Tom's a nice guy and he's willing to talk through things with you although he usually has some crappy band-aid solution that he overcharges for and supplies parts made from garbage. Ok, not real garbage but just really cheap parts. Then he tries to sell you on a "maintenance plan". read more

Flexible with scheduling, completely professional while at my house, not over-bearing in any way but provided some suggestions for ongoing maintenance/safety. Tom brings cheapest actual furnace or water heater product in your home and charges you high price to make margin on so called labor. He put in high efficiency heater and water heater but did a HORRIBLE job with venting tubes. Dug up my wall and didn't properly seal. He told me I need to find someone else to properly seal it or he could come back. Jerk attitude as well. I hope his crap installation doesn't cost me down the road I pray but considering he put the cheapest actual product I am sure it will. read more
