Which is probably why the original owners attempted to convert it to gas. We wanted wood, not gas, and we wanted to get the 26% federal income tax credit. So we visited A Fireplace Store and More and spoke to the woman working there. She set up a date for Rony to come out and give us an estimate. Rony showed up on time and we settled on a modern high efficiency biomass fireplace insert that qualifies for the credit. Parts and labor was not cheap, but we wanted a quality appliance and this business has decades of experience, which we also wanted. We put down a deposit and set the installation day, which was today. Rony and his team showed up on time, worked quickly, did good quality work and cleaned up afterwards. Rony explained how to use the new fireplace and was all done in a matter of 3-4 hours. Very happy with our purchase and service and we can't wait until we can use it this winter.

Now that it's the second week of March, my wife called them on Sunday and she was told that someone would call us on Monday. No call. She called again yesterday and was finally told that the screen "got lost in shipment from the manufacturer". IF that is true, why was there no follow up on the order with the manufacturer? They said they could have one made and shipped in 2 weeks. Interesting. We declined because they should have known that the order was 4 weeks late. They have been in business for a very long time so someone dropped the ball and the customer who paid in full 8 weeks ago, shouldn't be chasing down their order. Disappointing R&P C

The store has a wide variety of options to select from for fireplace products and patio sets. They also sell and install other outdoor products (ie. grills, mailboxes etc). It's nice that the store is also open on Sundays. Customer service: The staff here are knowledgeable and helpful without sales pressure which is appreciated. The purchased products are typically delivered very quickly if in stock and they try to order and deliver asap if not in stock. I haven't had any issues with returns if I was not satisfied with the product. I've worked with both Shane and Mike. *We did end up having to exchange a chair as it had a scratch and I wanted some touch up on the table because I saw marks on the table initially. I didn't appreciate the comment "you are being too picky" made by the delivery man. It is just not a comment you'd make to someone that is purchasing pricey furniture. I'm paying more than normal for the furniture so yea there's a reason I'll want the furniture to be in good shape. Costs: The costs may be on the more pricey end but they carry good quality products. The purchases were made within the past 2 years so I'll provide an update if anything changes. I'd recommend this place if you are looking for quality fireplace products or outdoors items in general. This is probably the most enthusiastic 5 star review I've ever submitted: I had always hated my…read morered/yellow brick combo, so when I found out about brick staining as an option, I began the hunt for someone who was experienced in doing it. Warning- a lot of painters will tell you they can do it, but you want to find someone who specializes in brick staining. It's really more of an art than I realized- creating the effect of natural brick. I can't remember how I found out about Brick Transformers but all I will say is Harry and his crew are THE premier brick strainers in the Chicagoland area. He pretty much invented the concept and has been doing it for decades. He's honed his craft. Be forewarned, he's very booked up, so you might have to wait a while for him to get to your project, but it's so worth it. He's great to work with, listens to what you want and the results will exceed your expectations.

I had them come re-sand and reseal, and the sand filled in is falling apart on one side of my patio as well as the edges in only a few months. They came a second time to try to fix it. Told them to let me know when they come because I want to be there whey they start so I can see what they're doing. I did not trust they were doing it well. They came out but didn't let me know and only after they had started, they came to me. That pissed me off, because I explicitely told them to wait until I am outside with them because of that and that I had questions. That request was blatantly ignored. Now about a couple months later, that sand is falling between the cracks and soft to the touch, I can literally compress it with my finger and I now have sand missing between cracks all over the place on one side of my patio again. There's no way they sealed that because that sand wouldn't be soft to the touch and able to compress with your finger! It's not only soft, they don't even put enough sand in it let alone forget to seal the damn thing. The second time they came out, they try to blame it on water, as if I'm an idiot (sure after a few months I expect this to all fall apart). There's nothing that would cause this. Regular rain shouldn't cause a $2k+ job to fail after a few months. The prior company who sanded this patio, the sand was not falling apart like this anywhere. Even after 5 years. Now I'm going to have to refill that sand and fix this myself. Maybe learned a lesson, just do this stuff yourself. Do it right the first time and you won't have reviews like this. Or customers that annoy you because you can't do your job well. They claim "warranties to match our underrepresented workmanship!". What warranty? I got no warranty and even when they come to fix the mess up, it still falls down. Anyone gets rain, even down pours. It's very clear what areas they did not do properly because the rest of the patio is holding ok. I expect a job to last a few years not a few months. Rain and nature happen, we expect this to hold up at least on average 3-5 years. I'm just going to seriously go back to Menards, there's a mexican guy there who knows a lot about this, and he's told me how I can just fix it myself and save money. He explained the different sealants, etc. and the pros and cons. That's exactly what I am going to do. No more hiring people for this. The ants are even crawling into the cracks now. Good times, right before it starts getting cold outside. So glad I have to spend a couple hours fixing this sh** now. I don't normally go out and rant like this but any moron can see this is not done right.
