The highlight of our trip to Portugal. My husband begrudgingly went along with my Fado plans but it ended up being his favorite activity as well. The website wasn't working for reservations so I followed instructions to reserve via WhatsApp. It was easy and great communication. They clearly weren't used to Whatsapp reservations, however, as when we arrived, we weren't on the guestlist. It was quickly remedied, however, and we paid (in cash) and were seated.
You are taken downstairs into a stone cellar with great acoustics for live music. If you have mobility issues are are immunocompromised, this may not be the spot for you, as the stairs are steep and the space is tight. You are crammed into a cozy space with many strangers. Some wore masks and we honestly wished we had brought ours. You are given a glass of port wine and they give an intro in more than one language, dependent upon where the audience hails from.
The music...just incredible. They are singing in Portuguese, but it doesn't matter if you don't speak a word of it. You feel the meaning and the emotion within the tempo, the tone of voice, the pure emotion of the guitarists and vocalist. I closed my eyes and got lost in the music for awhile but also enjoyed watching the face and body language of the singer, as she was clearly so moved by what she was singing. Very talented musicians and we loved the guitar solos, too. Great experience! read more
