I have just replaced my old, laminated kitchen counter top with granite. I went to Cabinets &…read moreStone Direct for the new counter top based on a recommendation from my remodel contractor. I worked with Kam Wong from the store and am very pleased with the final product. I wanted my new counter top in a very short time frame and Kam was able to lean on the necessary people to get the granite fabricated and installed in less than a week. The new counter top looks beautiful and I really can not ask for more. Cabinets & Stone Direct's price was very reasonable, personnel very friendly and professional, I do not hesitate to recommend them and Kam Wong in particular.

    Kitchens & Baths by Cardigan

We hired Cardigan to completely remodel our owner's bathroom. We first met with the owner, Jim, in…read moreNovember last year with the intent of just getting a price and ultimately hired them to begin work in December to be completed by Christmas. The thing I remember most about that first meeting was the personalized board they had up welcoming me and my spouse (Mr. and Mrs. D) - a really nice touch, albeit slightly incorrect as I was there with my husband, and when we went back to pick out selections they had updated it to be somewhat more accurate (The D. Family). Jim, the owner, was straightforward when we spoke with him and offered a competitive price compared to the other estimates we received. After we accepted the contract, Jim's sister and the company designer, Kim, was particularly patient with us as we spent upwards of two hours picking out the various components for the new bathroom, successfully finding solutions to mediate style disagreements between me and my husband. Overall, we were both very happy with our selections and excited for the new bathroom to be complete. The workers were excellent and displayed great professionalism during the remodel. The work began in early December, but was stalled a little bit due to the cabinet and vanity not arriving in time. The bathroom was functional, though not finished, before the desired Christmas date. It has been three weeks since the job completed and we have been satisfied so far with the bathroom. With the work, there were two (both immediately fixed) problems that stood out: First, the new toilet was installed slightly at an angle. We emailed Cardigan of the problem. When they came out the next time to continue working on the bathroom, the worker immediately saw the toilet was not level, apologized that he didn't catch it when he installed it, and made the toilet level to the floor. Second, when we started using the shower a week after installation, the shower was draining extremely slowly. Again, I emailed and called regarding this issue, and they fixed it that day despite Jim attending a funeral that morning. One of the workers came by that evening with a snake and fixed the problem. I was extremely impressed at their responsiveness. Overall, I am giving five stars due to the personalization, work quality, responsiveness, professionalism of the workers, and our happiness with the final result. When we finally move on to remodeling our kitchen in a few years, we will definitely be looking at Cardigan. The attached pictures include a picture of the shower before the bathroom was painted, and a picture of the other side of the bathroom after all of the work was completed.

Unfortunately, soon after the toilet began leaking into my basement, luckily I caught it before it ruined my carpet, but it ruined the ceiling and they had to patch the ceiling. Unfortunately they never returned to finish smoothing out the ceiling or painting the area :( Will not use them again.

But if you have a project where you need just a small piece (say for a 20"X30" vanity top), and you want something really special, good luck! Even the major stone dealers have primarily full slabs, and they will not cut off a small piece for you! (This is not a knock on those businesses, it's just the way the business operates.) Most places will have some "remnants" around, but there's a good chance that most of them will be fairly plain, or just not the piece of your dreams. That is why, if you are looking for plenty of choices for your smaller project, you should not waste your time - you should go DIRECTLY to "Remnant Yard," which has an amazing selection of . . .stone remnants!! This company is not a big operation, though they also do plenty of standard work. But their selection of stone remnants, which is mostly outside, is unbelievably diverse! Within a few minutes we found three different pieces we loved, and Mo (the owner) personally helped us choose the right one for us; he is very knowledgeable and VERY patient, and the piece we chose will knock the socks off everyone who uses our powder room. Seriously, even if (like us) you're 45 minutes away from Beltsville, this is the place to go.

The staff and their team were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. The senior design consultant and manger, Brian was very professional , his recommendations were great, and extremely thoughtful. The production manger Angel, was absolutely fantastic and patient, always answering my calls promptly and attentive throughout the process. The stone company and their team were also outstanding. They told me the project would be completed in three weeks, and it was finished in less than three weeks. I highly recommend them to my friends and family. Fantastic job VKB Kitchen & Bath Team! 18 Months Later... Still No Functional Kitchen We hired VKB…read moreKitchen & Bath to remodel our kitchen and selected cabinets through their vendor, Medallion Cabinetry. What should have been an exciting project has turned into an 18-month ordeal with no end in sight. This experience has been plagued by poor communication, poor project management, and incompetent craftsmanship. The project has taken far longer than quoted, and some of the finished work is so poor that it resembles a DIY job--most notably the installation of our patio door and beverage refrigerator. While some cabinets are acceptable, many arrived defective (cracked paint, loose supports, unfinished details), and others were incorrect or never delivered. It became clear that the initial plans were not properly reviewed, resulting in incorrect material orders. We have had to consistently push to get any work completed and repeatedly demand fixes for issues that should have been done the first time correctly. The project manager was largely uncommunicative, deadlines were missed, and there was little evidence of proper oversight. To be fair, the workers on-site were polite. However, the lack of leadership, coordination, and accountability from management made this a frustrating and exhausting experience. After 18 months, we still do not have a functional kitchen. We have been forced to rely on a microwave, air fryer, toaster oven, and frequent dining out. Outstanding issues include: * Missing and uninstalled cabinets (including refrigerator enclosure) * Incorrect and poorly fitting molding * Damaged quartz (including dulling from acetone use and unremovable smudges) * Incomplete drywall, painting, and ceiling repairs * Pantry shelving not installed * Misaligned patio door that does not open properly * Hardware (handles/pulls) never installed This has been a constant battle to get corrections made. Poor communication, missed deadlines, and low-quality workmanship have defined this experience. We cannot recommend VKB or their cabinet vendor. Do not trust them with your remodel.
