Reviews on this property are misleading. It's borderline funky, old and outdated, property in disrepair. No views from rooms, virews we had were of the messy parking lot and of the back of the building next door. Yes, it was clean and the check in woman was very pleasant. Highly recommend this sweet motel!! The owner, Sherry, runs it so beautifully! The rooms are SPOTLESS and has cute cotton bedspreads!! Rooms are equipped with small fridge/freezer and microwave. Shampoos and soap as well! A small gas station/mini mart is just a block away, which is convenient!! For breakfast, there is delicious Donut Shop Coffee and packaged muffins!! I enjoyed a nice long chat with Sherry while filling up my cups. People aren't traveling this summer and it's hurting her business. But I can assure you they take precautions here, wearing a mask and cleaning thoroughly. Please spread the word- River View Inn is nothing short of PERFECT! read more

This place is a treasure; we couldn't believe our luck when we stumbled across it at the end of the day. It is a super clean and reasonably-priced motel with a spectacular view that you would expect to pay a lot of money for. We sat in the gazebo and watched the sun go down. The next day we ate breakfast out by the water and chatted for quite some time with the owner, who is a really nice lady. After breakfast we wandered into town, which is just a few blocks away. I can't imagine getting a better deal for your money. I would make a point of staying here again. read more

Beautiful view of river and bridge for which the motel is named, with patio furniture so you can sit outside and admire it. Bathroom was tiny but recently renovated. Shower was great; shampoo was good. Room, sheets, and bathroom were clean. The windows open to help dispel the smell of strong cleaning solutions. Breakfast consisted of packaged muffins and good coffee. Friendly staff offered suggestions on eating places. Motel is close to museums and statue of Dignity of Earth & Sky. Did I stay in the wrong place??? I found such amazing reviews and was so excited to spend a night here, but our stay was just a mess. The owner was quick to share her sob story about how her husband's family took away her farm, and with no other skills she was forced to open a motel. I think what she missed was that motels do take special skills. They take someone who is detail-oriented, personable, and quick to fix something that is in disrepair. Talking about getting into the business because it's your last resort isn't exactly a friendly welcome. We took our room keys and brought all our stuff up to the second floor. The stairs literally seem like they're about to fall off into the parking lot. The support beams are completely rusted out and the handrail is actually connected with wire at the top. As you walk, they sway about 6 inches in either direction from where they are supposed to be. How are they still standing?? Once we got situated, we opened the fridge to empty our cooler and the foulest smell penetrated the room. I didn't even look in, but whatever was left in there had been there awhile. We went back to the office and she switched us to a different room where the bed hadn't been made. She finally just put us at the end of the hall, in the big room facing the water, which was a generous upgrade and much appreciated. This room was ok but still only moderately clean and very outdated. It should be mentioned that this is the only room with a view of the water-- you'd think by the name of the place that more than one room would actually have a bridge view. This was the hardest time we've had this whole trip trying to find a decently clean room, and the owner was still full of excuses (she'd recently had surgery and was having her daughter clean the rooms... while I'm sympathetic, if your daughter doesn't know how to check a fridge or make a bed, she probably shouldn't be helping you out). We were finally situated and decided to have a beer on the picnic table overlooking the water, which was beautiful and is obviously what most people stay here for. Almost immediately, the only other hotel guest-- an elderly biker man-- decided to join us and try to be our friend. We ended up taking a walk and watching the sunset at the RV park down the road. So much for that. The next morning, we were challenged once again by the flimsy stairs and managed to survive getting our bags back to the car. The owner was once again pleasant and the keurig coffee and free muffins were a nice touch. But overall, I definitely wouldn't stay here again... that is, if it even manages to stay in one piece. read more

While the owner was very friendly and the hotel has rather discounted rates, it is not worth the stop. In a pinch, as a last resort and "it's only one night"... then go for it. Just know that after 10pm, the office closes and you're out of luck. There seems to be only 2 rooms that have actual views of the bridge. The stairs to the second floor are lucky to be standing. The rooms were old and outdated, as was the climate control. You could see the water damage on the paneled walls (though not sure how that happened on the second floor). At night you could see the crack of the door, a perfect invite for critters. There was no fridge in our room, no exhaust fan for the bathroom and lackluster water pressure, but the towels were fluffy, white abs clean. The beds were old and not the most comfortable but the sheets were clean. While I'm sure the coffee & muffins would have been a welcome treat, we were on the road before the office opened and until I see or hear of updates & remodeling I don't think we'll be recommending it or stopping back. read more

A Bridge View Inn is inexpensive, cozy, and just what you're looking for if you are driving across the South Dakota on interstate 90. Although the motel does not offer high end luxury lodging, it does give you a clean place to sleep with a friendly and attentive staff. What more do you need sometimes? The view of the Missouri River is breathtaking early in the morning. There isn't really a clean view from the rooms. But, just step out of your room and walk about 30 feet and you are at a nice scenic viewing post with chairs, shades, and cup holders. Breakfast in the morning is comprised of Dunkin' Donut's Coffee and a variety of pastries. Nothing fancy but enough to get you going for a few hours. The lady that took care of us was extremely kind and hospitable. We told her we were going to arrive late and she waited until we arrived to check us into the motel. We needed a microwave to heat some food (we were on the road) and she immediately accommodated us with what we needed. read more

This hotel was great. Clerk was very friendly and really helpful pointing out thing to do and places to go. Its not a fout star hotel and no it doesn't have the ammenities of other places. For me it had the most important ammenities 1) a bed which was surprisingly comfortable 2) indoor plumbing 3)a/c and it even had wifi. After riding all day its really all scooter trash needs and a cold beer. The morning view of the Missouri river was awesome. Staying in a motel like this was a bit nostalgic for my brother and I on our trip toSturgis. It reminded us of the places we wouldstayduring family vacations. Its a family owned and operated business that is fast disappearing. Stay for the fun of it. My next trip to Sturgis I'llstay here again. Found this motel while searching for places to stay in Chamberlain while driving on a cross country road trip. The room was quite clean, sufficiently appointed and a good value. My real point of this review is for Sherry and her son, owner and operators of the motel. They are very friendly, interesting and helpful. After checking out and several hours west, realized a piece of electronics was missing. Called Sherry to inquire, whereupon she checked with her son who had indeed found the missing item. Sherry gladly boxed up the piece and shipped it to my next destination in Cody Wyoming. Thank you Sherry and son, hope to see you next time through! read more

Hallelujah for Yelp and smartphones. A few hours before arriving in Chamberlain, I found this place and booked the best room, the one on the second floor overlooking the Missouri River. As expected for such a reasonable price, the room was not fancy but it appeared to be very clean. The motel has a lovely gazebo and picnic tables where you can watch the sunset behind the bridge. The owner lady was very nice and they provide muffins and Kuerig coffee to send you on your way the next morning. read more

On our way west, we stayed at another independent motel in Chamberlain, but driving around town we spotted this place right on the river (which is more like a lake here). We made a reservation for a night for our return trip a couple of weeks later, and the owner said she'd hold room 40 for us. It's the room to get. A window view of the river and bridge--nicely lit at night--and a few steps from the sheltered deck where you can watch the sun go down on the bluffs across the Missouri. The room was spotless and unfancy, and it had the local cable TV and WIFI for those who aren't entertained by natural beauty. In mid-week in mid-August, we were among the very few guests, though the motel--like every other place on Interstate 90 in South Dakota--had just experienced the heavy motorcycle traffic of the annual carnival in Sturgis. The owners are friendly and helpful, and the room was inexpensive--it's the kind of independent business that is disappearing these days. We'll defintely stay here again when our travels take us out west. read more

This place is truely a gem. We found this place because most of the other hotels in town were booked up for the night, but we ended up with a 2 room/2 bath for a really good price. Great bed, 2 tvs, and a view right next to the water. It's owned by a very nice lady that sets up a thing of coffee and a basket of muffins for her customers in the morning. Chamberlain turned out to be a real nice town too. Antique shops, restaurant/bars, and very nice people. The owner suggested we go to a bar/grill called the Busted Nut, which we were unsure about because of the name but that turned out to be great too. Anyways, stay here. Avoid all other options that you were considering. This place is great! read more

Clean room (46), but very musty and in need of renovation (new ceiling tiles, carpet, chair). No desk made it hard to work and no iron/board meant my dress clothes were wrinkled. Gazebo/outdoor accommodations, price, and personable owner, kept the rating from going lower. read more

Lady in office was nice and let me know about coffee and muffins provided in morning, however the room was very outdated, walls appeared to have water damage. The hotel was sold out so there's money to have rooms at least updated with new bed spreads, curtains, chairs, fixtures,the room is calling out to bed bath and beyond HELP but with all that said if your exhausted stay one night!!! read more

This place is great! If you are used to being pampered and staying at Ritzy places - then go pay $$$ more at those places. If you enjoy a place where the people are Real People - nice and friendly, that is clean and well kept, a place that reminds you of a time when courtesy, respect and pride meant something, AND you get the best view offered anywhere in this town - this is the place to go!! I traveled cross country with my 18 yr old daughter for 2 weeks, and out of all the places we stayed - this was one of our favorites!! In fact, it's the only one I'm writing a review for. I don't know why some people wrote such negative things about this place or the owner, but we disagree completely. Yes, it is an older hotel. Yes, you could stay in a more upscale hotel - but you would be missing out. The view here is amazing! The gazebo was wonderful in the evening. The owner was extremely nice, helpful and informative! Gave us great tips on where to eat and where to get drinks. The rooms are very neat and clean, as you would expect. Clean bathrooms with plenty of hot water and water pressure, in both of the 2nd floor rooms we stayed in. The towels were the fullest and softest of anyplace we stayed our whole trip! The balcony is great and the stairs were fine. The place is old, NOT dilapidated. Who could complain about Keurig coffee in the morning - especially when u can pick your own variety and make it fresh! And your choice of muffins to eat! If you want a new, fake, fancy place - go somewhere else. But if you want to stay in a place you will remember fondly - this is the place. read more

Place looked a little Bates Motel when we first pulled in, but the owner was very nice, the room was very small and outdated, but very clean. The view can't be beat, we had muffins and Dunkin Donuts coffee and sat and looked at the Missouri River, altogether a very pleasant stay, average price. read more
