Just what you'd expect, Classic American diner fare. Inexpensive, clean, no special frills, local food, anything like that. Nice to have an alternative to Subway, and a good array of options like wraps, salads, and shrimp poboys.

Food is good but you can't hardly stand to pay for it anymore. And they don't give you as much food as they used to either.

I thought there was a great variety of wing sauces and they had some really spicy ones (I have a spicy tongue). Overall awesome experience

Had a nice visit to the Dairy Hut. Dairy Hut is a small chain that started in Harlan in 1982. The…read moreoriginal Dairy Hut was in a Food Truck of sorts. It has since grown to its present location which has indoor seating as well as outdoor picnic tables and a place to order both inside and out. The four locations are all in Eastern Ky and apparently owned by the same family. The place has the feel of the original Dairy Joints that were started in the 1950's. When I sought this place out that is what I thought I was getting. Every Kentucky town seems to have one and Frankly I am a sucker for them all. This is just like the original one in the 1950's except newer and cleaner. The locals seem to like it. The walls are covered in awards in the "Best of" categories Best Hot dog best Burger etc. I ordered the chili dog and onion rings. Delicious! That is about all I can say Simply Delicious. Now to test them on their authenticity as a 1950s redo I ordered a chocolate malt. Every Dairy place from the 1950s serves chocolate malts to us old guys that still have enough brain cells to remember what a chocolate malt is. Well it was started in the 1980s and no chocolate malt for me. I ordered a Chocolate Milk shake and it was all good. I feel sorry for the younger generation. Chocolate Malts are a million times better but what do you do. Go with the times. The place is clean, the food is good and the service is friendly. When in Harlan stop by the Dairy Hut.

The service was amazing, and everyone we interacted with was incredibly friendly and accommodating. One of the kitchen staff members even helped us open an umbrella so we could sit outside. Later, when he came out for a smoke break and noticed we were still eating, he thoughtfully moved to the other side of the building. We were traveling with our two dogs and appreciated that they were welcome both inside and outside. We chose to sit on the patio, and our waitress immediately brought out a bowl of ice water for the dogs without us even having to ask. The bathrooms were also very clean and charmingly decorated. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we would definitely visit again!

My buddy opted for the Spicy Smash. The burgers were mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm great, Juicy and the bun held up. Fries were fresh and would like to see maybe a topping or poutine option for them. Cool spot to get some AC and great burger before a Smokies game or a night in the old City.

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

The outside area has TV's, lots do covered areas for shade, and even heaters for the cold months. Just a great vibe. The service was fantastic! Our server was amazing. Can't remember his name, but he has the Joker tattoo on his arm with lots of HA HA on it too! He was a gem and super friendly. He constantly checked on us and was such a nice guy. We ordered the grilled peach margarita (get this) and the top shelf marg which was also good (so good that we ordered 2 more). They also have a peanut butter jelly beer that we tried that was delicious. Well done drinks! We only ordered an app to snack on. Let me be clear about this... ORDER THIS!!! It was the Firecracker Pork Belly. Listen to me... this is dream worthy. This is magic. This is insanely good. Absolutely not enough words to describe how amazing this is and how much you have to get it. The pork belly itself is crunchy on the outside while also melting in your mouth. Then, the General Tso sauce served with it is perfection. There are scallions and a creamy sauce in the plate as well. You will question if it's okay to lick the plate. This place is great!
