I mentioned to the tech that the upstairs didn't get quite as cold as I would like; while I suspected some of that could be system/ductwork limitations, he suggested that we could add a little more freon to the system in the event there was a possible slow leak. Ultimately, he ended up adding freon to both the upstairs and main floor unit, and unexpectedly much more to the main floor unit. The price after the fact surprised me, especially given that particular unit had appeared to have been working fine; the tech told me it was possible that unit had a leak. He informed me Summit would schedule a leak investigation if desired, but that it would cost a whopping $1,100, so I declined given the performance on that unit had been fine. Fast forward a week or two, and the main floor is quite hot. The ducts seem to be blowing hot air. At which point it became clear to me the unit has actually stopped functioning. I call Summit, which is busy with appointments and express my dismay that the unit stopped working after the tuneup. They tell me it may be a leak etc., but they will send someone out. I wait for the scheduled appointment and the tech that arrives this time clearly didn't look over the prior notes or photos before arrival. I explain to him the situation, and he was confused about which unit was implicated, and claimed that the prior pressure readings from the earlier tech clearly indicated there was a leak (which was not at all what I was told). He later retracted this statement after realizing what time of day the earlier appointment was and said those pressure readings were normal. He poked around briefly, but without much investigation declared the system to have a leak, and indicated there was an 80% chance of it being non-repairable. He indicated they would have to do the $1,100 search to locate the leak, and if it was in the condenser/evaporative coils it would not be repairable. If it was somewhere else in the line, it could be, but then they would possibly have to tear into my walls, etc. to identify the issue. When I asked how much a new unit would be, he gave me a rough quote of $15,000, but told me that they would have to look at specs to price out more specifically. I asked him to do so, given I wanted to know what I was looking at, and he appeared inconvenienced by the request and said it would take him an hour. (It did not.) During that process, the tech told me my ductwork was not sufficient and I would need to downsize my unit, and that the smaller size wouldn't be enough to cool the floor. He suggested my unit may have broken because I keep the basement vents closed, but then he also claimed these A/C units only last about ten years. The whole visit felt performative, and ultimately was much more focused on theoretical salesmanship than anything diagnostic. I was left pretty frustrated. I called out a different repair company recommended by a friend, and within 5 minutes he had identified the leak and the location in the coil. Contrary to what I was told by Summit, this company informed me the coil could be replaced and that I had many more years of life left in the unit. Within the week, I got the whole thing repaired and refilled for ~$1,200--not much more than the cost of a Summit "leak search." While I've had positive and knowledgeable techs with Summit, this whole experience was such a breach of trust that I will not be using them again. I had another company inspect my furnaces this fall for a fraction of the cost, and I will not be looking back.

I asked to have a repairmen sent out, thinking it would be the next day. She asked a few questions about the HVAC system, age, etc. and said, "We can't get anyone out there today but we can probably fix the problem over the phone." After assuring me that if we couldn't, she would send someone the next morning, she spent over half an hour walking me through a few checks and procedures and we got the system up and running. So something I thought was going to cost a few hundred dollars or more, cost me nothing, because she wanted to save us a very cold night and the possibility of pipes freezing. Wow! A company that shows incredible integrity and professionalism, and really seems to care about the people they serve! This was the first time I'd called Davey, but their number is now in my phone and will be my first call in the future. Thank you, Dorothy!!!

We had a water leak in my twelve year old 96% efficient Amana furnace and I placed a call to Davey. Dorothy was very courteous sent out her son Junior to look at what was going on. He told me he was going to condemn my furnace though there was no signs of aerial contamination. I told him I'll go out and buy two expensive meters and they both showed ZERO contamination! Ok, Junior then said the furnace would be covered under replacement warranty as the heat exchanger was cracked. He talked to the local dispatcher and they had a unit in stock. I was then told by Junior that it would cost me THIRTY FIVE HUNDRED to get the job done. I was flabbergasted at the price! This was for labor! Unbelievable! Ok it was winter and cold temps needed to be handled so I told him let's do it. Junior returned and started installing all the while informing me that it would cost me another EIGHT HUNDRED! I told him no way! Mind you, my old unit was removed and brought downtown. He called his office and they backed off on the additional eight hundred. I left Junior alone and he put together the new furnace and installed it! It was not straight, not plumbed and he left after the furnace was running. I called Dorothy and COMPLAINED! She sent Senior out and he straightened things out. The inspector came by and failed the inspection. Senior came out again and touched up all the work. Senior had to come by a third time to rewire the condensate pump... to code! That final time he came, I could tell he was PO'ed at returning and never said a darn word to me. No respect at all! Bottom line, I was ripped off to high heaven. Thirty five hundred... for the work done? Maybe they get this from other uneducated customers but the unit was under warranty, the whole installation with labor should have cost me $2000 at MOST! I found an unbelievably reputable HVAC and they have so far treated me with respect and professionalism especially when it comes to pricing and top notch customer service. Just had to share this with potential customers here in the area.

Tuesday November 14, 2017: I was contacted via text message from "Rod" after I submitted a project request to HomeAdvisor requesting quotes on a new water heater. I was quoted $1,064 for a "Rheem Professional Classic Plus" electric water heater by text message including installation and running electric service from my basement sub-panel. Thursday November 16, 2017: "Roy" and "Rod" come to my house for installation. "Rod" runs a 240 volt electric line from my basement sub-panel to the water heater location approximately 10 feet away. "Roy" arrives, disconnects and drains old gas water heater, installs new electric heater, and puts in expansion tank. Water heater is functioning. Saturday November 18, 2017: I contacted "Rod" by text message at the number he provided previously, as we have no hot water. The breaker for the heater on the basement sub-panel is tripping continuously. No answer at this number, so I call Riteway's main number on Monday November 20, 2017. Receptionist dispatches a tech to my house that day to troubleshoot. I did not catch this gentleman's name, but he had not previously been to my house earlier in the installation. He spends approximately 2 hours in my basement, looking up wiring schematics on his phone, and trying to get the heater to work. He eventually says it is mis-wired, and needs to go get a replacement heater from the supplier. He comes back about an hour later with a new heater, which he installs. It is functioning and heating water. Tuesday January 23, 2018: I contact "Rod" by text message as previous with concerns that our electric bill was coming in much higher than usual. I had inspected the stickers on the water heater, and found that the installed water heater was a "Rheem Professional Classic", and NOT the "Rheem Professional Classic Plus" as was quoted during my installation. I looked up the schematics on Rheem's website, and found that the currently installed water heater had an estimated annual energy usage of $555, while the sticker available online for the "Rheem Professional Classic Plus" electric heater has an estimated annual energy usage of $417. "Rod" asks for the name on the account, and I give it to him. I don't hear back this day. Thursday January 25, 2018: I contact "Rod" again by text message and ask if he was able to look into the above issue. He responds back a few minutes later asking for pictures of the energy sticker and serial number of the installed heater. I send them. I do not hear back. Tuesday February 20, 2018: I contact "Rod" again by text message regarding the absurdly high energy bills and requesting he look into the above issue. I do not hear back. Saturday February 24, 2018: I submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau of Denver regarding the above exchange. My resolution request is a refund in full, as I am not comfortable having an essential piece of household equipment (water heater) being warranted and serviced by a company/representative that will not respond to trouble calls. Thursday March 15, 2018: I contact Riteway Plumbing about the above issues. I am informed by the phone representative that the company, while retaining the name, is under new ownership and has limited records of previous customers. I am asked to send in pictures of my heater install and a summary of my issues so far. Thursday March 22, 2018 Despite asking me for a detailed email of my experience so they can look into it, I still have not heard back from Riteway. I've called today, and they don't answer. The answering machine greeting is a generic pre-recorded "Hello. Please leave a message after the tone."

The two smaller companies offered a great price, this one being the better of the two, however, this one also was able to route the the exhaust through the roof instead of through the side wall, which would have included through a bathroom, which made the decision easier. They were able to come out fairly quickly, only delays were because of the snow on the roof, and the install went quickly which included removing a tank water heater and doing piping work for both water and gas. I was really impressed and very thankful for a great job. I did have an issue and the owner ended up coming out right away, even though he was getting ready to go on vacation. He was able to fix the issue quickly and to my satisfaction. I will be using them for any future needs.

A few years ago, when I lived in a 1950s house, I called him for an AC quote. Instead of just trying to make a sale, he took the time to explain that my old ductwork was undersized and would likely cause frozen coils -- and that installing AC wouldn't be a good idea. Every other company was still pushing expensive quotes, but he gave me honest advice that saved me thousands. That kind of integrity is hard to find. Fast forward -- I moved to a new home where the attic furnace was waking up my baby at night in the winter. He replaced it and sound-isolated it so well that it's now very quiet, even though it sits directly above my son's room. Later, I had him replace our main-level furnace too, and the workmanship and commitment to my satisfaction was unparalleled. Everyone I've referred him to -- friends, family, neighbors -- has had the same experience. His team's attention to detail, fair pricing, punctuality, and commitment to making sure the customer is completely happy are unmatched. Even when hardware compatibility issues have come up, they've gone above and beyond to make things right. It's also a true family-run business -- when you call, they actually pick up the phone, respond quickly, and stick to their word on scheduling. In today's world, that level of service is rare. I recommend them to everyone I know. If you want honest, high-quality HVAC work from people you can trust completely, this is the company to call.
