When using Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the distance behind a car ahead was dangerously shorter than proper factory settings. Dashboard alerts for the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) were slow, happening only AFTER crossing a divider line. Dashboard and sound alerts were either slow or just non-existent for the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS). To test, I crawled toward cars at stop lights. It was impossible to get any CMBS alerts. Bottom Line: I wasted $385 on an alignment that needs to be redone by a specialty shop at $400. If you want your forward sensing camera aligned correctly (and this needs to be done on most modern cars when a non-OEM windshield is installed), don't have it done here. Service after payment was non-existent. I was told to go to a shop with better equipment. If I had been told that in ADVANCE, I would not have spent $385 with them. Ugh. In fairness, they correctly installed a generic windshield that fit well at a reasonable price. If you have an old vehicle without a forward-facing safety camera, the shop is probably fine.

After several chats, then a costly ($1,582.45) visit to Tesla Santa Clara-Northwestern Parkway, Fernando installed a new sheet of Expel XR Black Ceramic to my new rear backlite glass for no charge, as promised. As first reported, my rear defroster ribbons were damaged pre-install. This Tesla service center claims this to be wear and tear for a 2018 M3, even when simply cleaning the rear glass. Online chats and Tesla forums will show that some Tesla service centers will cover this defroster failure for no charge as "goodwill" or "defect," -- just not "warranty." My apologies to Fernando as when he said "cleaning," he really meant a simple cleaning of the glass prior to install! It could have happened to anyone -- including me. It was not clear to me at the time what could have happened to cause this type of damage. My bad for the misunderstanding. (I suppose the takeaway here is it's best to get your car tinted when the rear defroster is new, not after years of sitting in the sun.) And, after further review of my original invoice, Fernando did give me a cash discount as a gesture of goodwill. I look forward to returning to GSAG&T to get my other vehicles tinted.

The quality of his work was really high. For this windshield, he picked up an OEM windshield from the dealership and installed it at my house. A few days later, I took it to the dealership to do the camera calibration service. This was much less expensive than having the dealership do the whole package, and the quality of the install was probably better. Plus, I liked being able to let the car sit in my driveway for 24 hours to let the adhesive cure instead of driving it back from a dealership right after install, which vibrates the adhesive and loosens it.

First, it took them over 10 days just to pick up the replacement windshield from Tesla. After the installation, things only got worse. My Full Self Driving stopped working, and the cameras never completed calibration even after a full reset and over 100 miles of freeway driving. Clearly, the forward camera housing wasn't aligned correctly during installation -- something any shop working on Tesla vehicles should know. On top of that, the inside of the windshield was filthy. There were fingerprints and handprints all over it, like it had never been cleaned after the install. I even pointed this out to the owner directly and told him the windshield was dirty exactly the way they gave it to me -- and he didn't care at all. When I reached out about the calibration problems, instead of taking responsibility, the owner basically said: "It's your problem. Call Tesla. We only replace glass." No accountability, no willingness to help, and he was extremely rude on top of it. Replacing a Tesla windshield is not just swapping glass. The camera alignment is critical, and they clearly don't have the skill, training, or professionalism to handle it. I do not recommend this shop to anyone -- especially Tesla owners. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually stands behind their work.
