I found these guys through a word-of-mouth recommendation. I went in to get a key duplicated (specialized), and the guy looked at it, said it was cut wrong, and polished the original key to "read" properly before duplicating it. Sure enough, as soon as I tried the original key, it worked significantly better than before; a lot of the sticking I assumed was from the lock turned out to be from the poorly cut key. Then I got them to change the locks to my front door. He gave me a couple of options for the type and pricing of locks. When he came, he showed me how the new lock was better than what it was replacing, and that while there were still better locks, they were probably overkill for my needs. He also adjusted a lot of poorly installed hardware that he didn't need to, but he took pride in his work and it showed. Still recommend them to everyone who asks for a suggestion of a locksmith. read more

Needed to copy keys quickly and found this place on Yelp. It was close to my apartment, and super convenient. When I came in, I asked the man working how long it would be to do the key, he said, "it depends on the key". He looked at it and put it in some machine that copied it in two seconds! It was like magic! All for two dollars as well. Definitely the fastest I've ever had keys copied in my life! Definitely recommend this place for super fast and cheap service. read more

Staff is efficient and knowledgeable. They know the area and their trade well. Fair pricing in my experience. This spot has been a lock shop since the early 20th century. read more

A-Art is a family-owned business (actually related to Ruzi, the jeweler who used to be in the space next door before the theater was renovated) and they're fair and honest. A long time ago I had fixed grills and a fireman's gate made for my St. Mark's apartment; although I've since moved, the lock on my front door is still from them. I still go to them to get keys copied; I've actually been to other locksmiths who made me keys that didn't work! How do they live with themselves? These guys are great; nobody ever told me before I moved to New York I'd have a favorite locksmith, but I do and it's these guys. read more

I was in the area and needed to get my keys copied. Walked in, showed my keys and walked out in no time flat! While I've definitely had keys copied at hardware stores in the past, they don't always work the best (shimmy it a little to the left to work, lol). These copies, however, worked perfectly and were inexpensive. Glad I discovered this spot! read more

I mean, people think it's strange when I say that I have a lock guy, but then I direct em here. This place has what you need and fast, so I get all my sets and copies here and advise my friends to, too. Run in, copy your keys, and head out in less than 5 minutes. Really what else do you need? They're inexpensive, nice, and quick. I trust em to make my copies cause they have always worked when I take them home. Plus, they're super conveniently located to me nearby. Try em out if you need copies! read more

Zero stars if I could. I had an emergency lockout, and they: - refused to tell me how close the locksmith was - hung up on me Take your business elsewhere! Clearly they don't want your money. read more

My favorite locksmith. I will go out of my way to come here because they are nice, prompt and always have what I need. I've gotten countless keys made here thru the years, and only once had an imperfection ever, which they promptly fixed. Use them! read more

A-Art Locksmiths installed a new door knob/lock for me. The locksmith Delon did the job quickly and professionally. The door to my apt. Is problematic but he is a true craftsman and is equipped with all the necessary tools. He did the job really well and charged me the price we had agreed upon. This is not the first time I have used their services and have always been satisfied! read more

I like these guys. I walked over here a couple weeks ago to copy some keys for a business associate of mine (look at me being all cagey). One of the guys was standing outside, leaning against the door frame. Seems like it was a slow day. He walked in with us and just as I was about to start taking the keys off the ring he said, "don't bother with that, it'll just take up more time, I can do it faster with them on." About a minute later, we were presented with five shiny new keys. I don't remember what it cost, which means it couldn't have been very much; but what stuck in my mind was, "don't f-ck with the key guy, he knows what he's talking about." read more

Best Locksmith service tried so far in NY! Service and quality: The guy was very quick, professional, knew what he was doing, and as the previous reviews mentioned "no need to take the key out of the chain". The only glitch would be that one of the copies seems a bit too roughly cut, jamming a bit while using the first couple of times. Price: super affordable, one copy was $2.50- walked in and out in less than 5 minutes and a little under $6 short. read more

I love my deadbolt now that Frank put in a new cylinder for me. I paid for a new pick-proof cylinder for my existing deadbolt (the house call was included in the price). When Frank arrived he saw how rickety and misaligned my deadbolt was. In addition to installing the shiny new cylinder, he spent a long time realigning the deadbolt that I hadn't even purchased from him. Now I can lock the door very easily from the inside or out (so I get to appreciate the great work several times a day, forcing me to write this review). This would not have been the case if Frank hadn't put in so much extra effort beyond doing the work to which we had agreed ahead of time. read more

Wowza. All the reviews are 100% right! I came to the shop at 5:35pm on a Thursday and left with 2 sets of brand new sets of keys by ... probabably... 5:42pm! This is definitely a no-frills type place and it's obvious that the guys prefer efficiency. Note that there's a 10-dollar minimum for credit cards which may make it difficult if you're only looking to duplicate one or two keys. The shop is on the right side of 2nd Ave (if you're walking south), and it's a super small place! read more

2012: They were the only one of 3 local well reviewed places I called that quickly got back to me and replaced my lock within half an hour. (Locksmiths seem to use outside contractors to handle lock outs). The others either did not call back or eventually updated their answering message saying they had suspended service because of the gas shortage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Update 6-8-2016. Today I had A-art change the cylinder above the doornob after a roomate moved out and all went quite smoothly . Since it was during regular hours I got Frank, one of the 2 partners, who was quite helpful, coming back with a missing screw that he discovered on the door hardware. I have been using A-art since moving in around the corner from them 21 years ago and have always received good service and advice. My apartment had been broken into twice in the year before I moved in. The high quality top lock A-Art put in 21 years ago has scared away all burglers since then just as A-art had predicted. read more

I just used these guys once, but they were solid, and I was shocked at the one star review (a review which gave no reason). My bike lock jammed up beyond repair, locked to a tree on 1st Ave. I called these guys, and 10 minutes later a guy shows up, checked my ID, and then saws it open. It cost $95, but I think that's around the going rate. So, quick, professional service, what more can you ask? read more

Great service! I made copies for my keys for $2. They work perfectly! It's so much better than Keyme machine!

For the second time in a single month, the same spindle broke - a $2 piece they're selling for $20. They didn't even give me a receipt when I asked them for it (I wonder if they pay taxes). I walked out in disgust. Strangely enough, this is the only locksmith around here that sells spindles. What a business, selling defective pieces! Avoid. read more

Disreputable. I was locked out and called them. When asked the price, they said "$65 to open your locked door". The locksmith arrives half an hour later, takes a look at my lock and tells me it cannot be picked. Then says it will be $200 something to drill it open and then the lock has to be replaced, which they can also conveniently do for $130 more. I declined. 10 minutes later, I bump into a service man in my building and he picks my lock in 2 minutes read more

This is about as straightforward a business as you can find in Manhattan. You need spare keys, they have hundreds they can burn for you. It took less time for me to procure three keys at A-Art than it did to actually open their front door. Fast, friendly enough, cheap - exactly what you'd want in a business that specializes in diversifying how you enter your apartment. read more

Always nice to deal with, professional, reliable and they do good work. Have been using them forever and no complaints. Prices are reasonable for Manhattan. read more

stopped in to copy my key real quick...and, I mean, real quick. 2 minutes-$2.50. thank you!! read more

They charged me $12.50 to copy my Multi-Lock Key. They were quick, I was in and out in about five minutes. Credit card must be at least $20. It seemed kind of expensive hence only three stars, but they got the job done I guess. read more

Came here to make copies of my apartment keys. The walls are covered with literally thousands of every kind of key, waiting to be cut to match yours. Mailbox keys cost slightly more since the machine has two cut both sides of the key, but I was in and out with a hot (no, seriously. The keys were warm) set of keys in less than 5 min. Docked a star because the worker didn't acknowledge the other people who came into the store or answer the phone while he was working. I get that you have to pay attention, but not even a head nod. With good efficient work, a little rudeness is tolerable. read more

These guys are the best, most honest and humble people! I have to say that for the past 15 years whenever i need locksmith services i go to these guys. I always have some crazy job for them that i never feel can be done. They always get it done and for the right price. My last job was for a Multilock key. The thing is,i had no key and no card. the lock is installed in my jeep and costs $600 and about $100 or so to uninstall so i was hoping that they could work some of their magic. I managed to remove the lock mechanism from my jeep and brought it in. Clint Eastwood could not have been more cool and calm. He took it and 3 hours later i had 2 keys and a card for $35 bucks! That was "VERY" fair and afterwards i decided to go check around for the purpose of this review and confirm what i already knew. I went to 2 local locksmiths and one said $75 "no matter what" AND "no guarantees" The second said that it is "not" possible to do! Sure! Lazy people that are not willing to try to help! A-art really makes me feel like i am getting some sort of "family favor" done for me. These guys have been in this area for a very long time and i for one would like to see them here for a long long time to come. If you are in need of this type of service, "Support this place" If you have a crazy hard job to get done give them a chance to do it. Keep in mind that it may not be doable but if it is i am 100% sure that A-art will do their very best to get it done. read more

Great place. Fast service, fair prices, no fuss about any keys. I was in and out in a few minutes with exactly what I needed.

Says they open at 9. It is 9:20. I'm sitting her since 8:45 no one opening this place. And it says 24 hour locksmith service. I called when j first got here to confirm their hours - there is no voicemail or answering service. Not fast or reliable and apparently not 24 hour service. read more

Best locksmith ever!! I was in and out in 5 minutes with brand new keys when I thought I was going to be locked out all weekend... Thank you so much! read more

I lost the key to my document safe. I brought it here and they only charged me $10 to pick the lock. They could have made a key as well; however, I didn't feel like bothering with it. read more

The 1%ers make all the difference. Bike's U-lock wasn't opening with key so rode over to them and they happily assisted and were successful in helping me resolve my issue. Needed a few sprays of some lubricant of sorts and a bit of tinkering and walla! - unlocked! Apparently the cold had jammed the lock slightly. The reason this was a 5-star interaction was that they didn't even consider charging me, and were just happy to help and send me on my way wishing me happy holidays. I'm sure there are other locksmiths that would do the same but this was my experience with A-Art and I've rated them accordingly. read more

Quick and efficient. Came here to get a few duplicate keys made and they were extremely efficient. Reasonably priced for NYC and would definitely come back for future needs! read more

Needed my 2007 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle key copied. Five minutes and $6.51 later I'm all set. I went to three other locksmiths and none of them could help me. The last locksmith recommended these guys and he was right on. read more

I don't really give 5 star rating, but I must say, that this is a great place to go to copy keys. It is very cheap about $2-3. I got my key duplicated within a minute and it works as great as the original one! Would definitely come here again and I'd recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've been using A-Art Locksmiths for years, they are always amazing. Excellent customer service, no bullshit and always quick!

Don't usually take time to write reviews but these guys were great. Honest quote over the phone. Friendly when I called, twice. The guy they sent was on time. He put a new lock in perfectly and fixed a previous one that was installed incorrectly. I recommend these guys. read more

Locked myself out of my apartment at about 8 pm on a Saturday night. While the guy was fairly prompt (only took about 30 min to arrive) and was able to take out the old lock and replace it within about 15 min, it did cost me $700. In all fairness, he did tell me it would be $275ish to get me in, but was not aware that there would be such an insane mark up on the replacement lock. read more

I had a small mailbox key that was hard to copy. I tried a few other places without luck, but these guys made me a working copy on the first try. I'll definitely be coming here again! read more

Disgustingly rude staff. Terrible phone etiquette. Yelled at me just for asking a price quote. Never come here.

I've been going here for keys for years and recently needed a lock replaced. The locksmith not only did a good, quick job installing the lock ($150 plus tax), but fixed a problem with another lock at no charge. read more

A-Art Locksmith was able to create duplicate Mul-T-Lock keys perfectly where two other locksmith could not--including the people who installed the lock! The locksmith was clearly very knowledgeable, asking the right questions and looking for a proper cut and the correct placement on the key blank, which none of the others had done. Reasonably priced, courteous, and best of all, they get the job done. read more
