Stopped on a Monday afternoon for lunch since it's close to the interstate for a very quick hop on and hop off. We dined in and so glad we did as we got frosted mugs for our root beer. I forgot how good that is!! The chicken tenders were fresh and hot and very, very good. I heard the burger beef was kinda of off tasting but the rest of it was okay. The fries were okay but wish we could've gotten more ketchup. It seemed like they were parceling out to perhaps combat waste, which I can appreciate. All in all, the service was great though - very friendly and brought our food out to us quickly. Definitely an older establishment but has a nice charm to it. The prices were a little steep ($11.50 each combo meal) so probably won't make this a regular stop, but would definitely come back for those tenders and root beer! read more

I was there on a Sunday morning. I was there only for the root beer float. And it really was good. It was served in a frozen glass with a lot of soft serve ice cream floating in good root beer. I also had a double spicy papa burger. It was good too. Overall prices were reasonable, food was good and root beer was excellent. read more

Tonight my visit included the time to dine in and relax for a while. . Usually I drive thru. This visit inside is my second indoor order, but first to sit down and enjoy the experience. The service is as expected, top quality, and A&W standards for the floor is excellent. Everything down to napkin dispensers are pristinely centered at every table, every chair and stool, precisely positioned. Spotless. Loving it. My first visit, I saw this place as being the best of every A&W I've visited in recent times, perhaps period, though the locations I visited decades before can't really be part of my thought today. I met the owner that previous visit and told him essentially what I'm thinking tonight. As I received my meal, it was looking great. The fries were hot and fresh. Tasted great. Normally I have regrets about the fries, calories in part, but also that they are not as good as they should be. Tonight they are perfect. The burger (single bacon cheese deluxe essentially) looks proper, and the lettuce tomato and everything is crisp cold and fresh. The bacon, proper. The lettuce down is the patty. It's not freshly cooked. It tastes ok, but it is not something that was made inside the time I had been in the seating area observing my surroundings. I stopped into A&W today to get a cheeseburger and a root beer. When I ordered the cheeseburger, I said put everything on it. She said ketchup, mustard and pickle comes on it. I said well I want lettuce, tomato, and onion. She never said that it cost extra. When I got the receipt, I looked at it and noticed they charged me $.50 for one piece of lettuce $.50 for about a half a slice of onion and $.50 for a thin slice of tomato. I will start with the positive, the food was hot and good. The negative side is that the store, like all, is independently owned, and this one is taking advantage of people. As you can see, 2 coney dogs cost $10.98 !!! Total for 2 dogs, 2 sides and half a gallon of root beer, was $25.58 I understand food cost is rising, although this is nothing more than greed. Was on a skiing trip at Cascade mountain with my buddy and passed this place coming home. Looked pretty nice so we decided to stop and dine in. The Restaurant was not only clean but all the employees and manager were above and beyond with the service. I had gotten a cold glass root beer which was delicious and the food came fast and was fresh and delicious. I really did also like the classic dinning atmosphere. I loved A&W when I was a kid. The little hick country town where I grew up only had one fast food place: A&W. And it was great. We ate there all the time. This A&W, and largely A&W in general, no longer hits for flavor or food. The burgers are not what I remember them being as a kid, but they still have just enough of that flavor to light the nostalgia lamp, and that's the only reason I still return. Their service is okay. The restaurant is usually clean. The menu is fine. But it's not what it once was (like most fast food). It's still better than McDonald's or Burger King, maybe on par with Hardee's, and still chasing Culver's by a great distance. read more

When traveling from WI to Chicago, this is often the stop for a fast dinner. It's good, and they still have draft root beer, served with a frosted mug. The service is always ok, but the high price of a combo meal that is only painfully average keeps me from raving about the place. read more

Cheese curds were awesome! Fresh and pull apart stringy. We tried the new Sriracha Curds and had a good flavor with a nice spicy kick to it. Bathrooms needed a little up keep but otherwise the restaurant looked clean. Location 4505 Lake Circle, WI, 53598 Right when my boyfriend and I walked in we were greeted with a warm hello! It was my first time to a A&W and the employees were so excited for me. The cooks Mike and Vick gave us their favorite options. The lady with glasses at the cash register was so kind and told us the specials and explained everything we had questions on. They also offered me to have the my Dr.Pepper float in a chilled mug! I love Dr.p that's why I didn't get root beer. There was barely any customers in the dinning room but the staff was taking turns making sure it was sanitized and spotless! Vick brought us our food with a kind smile and gave us some sauces to try our cheese curds in! The food was fresh, hot and delicious! The sauces were amazing and the Float was to die for. The kind lady that took our order asked if we need anything which was awesome. Vick offered a Togo cup because I wasn't able to finish my float in the mug so I thought that was EXTREMELY thoughtful. When my bf and I were leaving the whole staff was asking us how we liked our experience and to have a wonderful day. This restaurant and staff really made my first experience worth it. I've eaten here a couple of times now - usually after a round of golf north of Madison as we're trekking back home to the west side. It's a nice location and easy to get to. The food is decent. Nothing like a good ol' hamburger to quench the hunger. The fries portions are nice. I like the frosty mug for your root beer (dine in) out of the tap. That's a nice touch. But overall, I think it's a bit pricey for what you get. The food doesn't blow away the competition. I never think to myself, "I need me some A&W food". Most times, I'll suggest having something else along the way, but my buddies like the novelty of A&W. You just don't see many anymore, so it's kinda cool to check in on them. This location does a pretty good business (at least when I'm stopping in). It never struck me as very clean. While not "dirty", per se, you'll see straw wrappers on the floor and other untidy sights. I get it - you're busy and there's a lot going on. I can live with napkins and wrappers here or there, I understand - you'll pick them up eventually. Will I go back? Probably. Will I be the one to suggest we go back? We'll see. I haven't yet. read more

Classic, just like you remember.,,,, Perhaps, like me, you remember trips to the A&W as a kid on a hot summer day to get that enormous, frosty mug of sweet, cold root beer as a special treat. I remember agonzing over the decision, ice cream cone or frosty mug of beer (parents wouldn't let us have both). I hadn't stopped into an A&W in a long, long, time and was looking for something a little less fast-foody on my drive south when I decided to stop at this A&W. I've driven by it on the interstate a hundred times on my way back and forth from Minneapolis to Madison but had never before stopped in. I got a burger and fries, which were fine, but the real treat was a real frosty mug (eat in only) that I could fill myself at the beverage counter with straight from the barrel A&W root beer. Great staff and great food. Right off the exit, clean and well managed. The food was fresh and fast and all five of us liked our selections. The cherry on top is we left I left my hat behind on a chair. The manager chased us down at the stop sign to return the hat. I was staying the night next door at the Super 8 hotel and decided to walk to the restaurant, since I have never eaten at A&W before. I ordered a large vanilla shake and cheese fries. They were delicious. I would have given 5 stars but the lines moved too slowly. They offer burgers and fries like fast food restaurant but with a casual feel being less rushed. They sell A&W mugs and pitchers and have a ole timey tap for refills of root beer. Nice experience and delicious food. read more

Nothing fancy but the food is always hot and the drinks are cold. All the toppings on burgers, etc. are fresh and the people are friendly.
