This is a combination A&W Long John Silvers location. Straight up done with this location. My previous review was on sub par food. I'll attach the photos to this review too... I haven't been back until today I ordered online. The system told me my pick up time was 540 PM. I arrived early and sat in the lot. At about 539 PM I walked up and tried the door. It was locked. I pulled around to the drive through and a female voice came on and said they were closed. I said I'd placed an online order and I was here at my scheduled time. The voice changed. This time a male voice who said they were the manager. He said they were closed. I asked why the online system accepted my order and what about the charge to my account. His answer... They closed over an hour before my scheduled time. It happens and that I would have to dispute the charge with my bank. WTF? Thanks for absolutely... Nothing! I've worked in IT for 30 years. No. It just doesn't happen. Whoever designs the application sets hours for a location. The online system doesn't accept orders outside of operating hours. Check out the Great Clips app or any app for anyone not Long John Silvers... Even with hours being set in the app normally a manager or owner has the ability to shut down online ordering if hours change or the volume gets too high to accept online orders. Google says they close at 900 PM. Bing says 1000 PM. The Long John Silvers site says they close at 1000 PM. Again... WTF x2? I'm over it. I'll never stop at this location again. If they continue this kind of operating model and customer service it probably won't be long until they shut down anyway. Too bad as I've lived in the West suburbs the majority of my 33 years in the metro and this has been my frequented location. I found out that they gave me 10 waffle fries. Yes, 10, I counted them. My burger was only condiments and vegetable, no meat. How do you forget to add the meat to a hamburger? I'll preface this by saying it's obvious this location is woefully understaffed (for example, the marquee says "For the love of cod, please apply inside.") We arrived around 10:50am and a sign on the door said they opened at 11. No problem. The family and I were fine to wait. 11am arrived, and our family, plus another couple, were waiting at the door. Nobody came to unlock the door, despite us ringing the doorbell, and there were several employees at the front counter. The couple also waiting decided to leave. Finally, around 11:07am, a woman in a pink uniform shirt came outside via the other door with keys. We greeted her and she ignored us. She unlocked the door we were waiting at, opened it and walked inside without giving us any acknowledgment. I was so put off by this rudeness that we left. Which from the looks of things, was what the staff was hoping we would do. The drive-thru was not busy so it did not appear to be a situation where opening the door was overlooked because of this. I've worked in food service, and I've also worked for the management company that owns this location. I understand being busy, being understaffed and being overwhelmed. Nothing about this visit bothered me until the staff at the counter ignored us even though it was after opening time, and the coup de grace to our visit was the rude employee shutting the door on us. I didn't have any confidence our experience would improve after this. The takeaway I had from this experience was to expect very poor service, and I can't in good conscience return. read more

Do not order online. I attempted to pick up my food and the extremely abrupt and rude person "helping" me said they never received the order and would not even look at my confirmation email. She did not offer to refund my money, allow me to try to order in person, or attempt to be helpful at all and walked off. She did say they were out of fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw when I first walked up so it's possible my order didn't go through because I had ordered hush puppies as part of my meal. Prepare to wait 40 minutes in the drive thru with only 3-4 cars in front of you for cold food.

What an experience. Waited at the drive up window for 20 minutes as a line of cars formed behind us. 4 people got their food before us even though they arrived after we did. The staff was running outside to get their debit cards and bring them their food - why they didn't just have us pull up, who knows. 5 minutes into waiting for our food, a worker asked us what our order was, as if they'd lost it somehow. We had paid already of course. So they go presumably to start our order and continue bringing food out to others. 15 more minutes pass without a word from any workers and then one of them passes me a bag of food without saying anything. No apologies, no thank you. I asked "what happened" and the cashier said "oh, we made it fresh". The burger tasted disgusting, like they hadn't been cleaning their equipment. The fries were soggy and mushy, but "fresh". Also tasted like they were made in filthy equipment. Inedible, we threw it all away. The single worst fast food experience we've ever had, but maybe it's on us for eating fast food in the first place. read more

Pearl the manager was patronizing , rude and condescending and does not allow the patrons to speak. She speaks over you and her customer service is less than pleasant. I realize that most restaurants are short staffed but no one should be treated the way we were at this Long John Silvers. I'm reviewing this based on LJS. I went through the drive through Thursday at lunch. The drive through line was long. I am assuming they are like everyone else and short staffed. The line didn't take long at all to get through. Someone came out to get my credit card before I got to the window, so when I got to the window, it was wham, bam and I was out of there. I drive to Granger to eat with my parents and it's still hot. The order is 100% correct. I love the chicken planks. This business is the shining star of my December. Everywhere else is hurry up and wait, but they seem to be efficient while I wait. I appreciate that. read more

I've really tried to give this place a chance. Three times in the last two months...the first time I was the third car in line at 5:50, there was a worker out in the lot but they didn't say anything to me, so I waited for the other two cars to order and rolled up at 6. The speaker said "we are closed", meanwhile I look in my rear view mirror and the employee is putting a sign up in the drive AFTER me. I came back another time to do find out they had closed at 5 that day. Today I was craving it, it was 3:10 in the afternoon so I figured it wouldn't be a long wait. I pulled up to see a sign that said "open today from 11-3". I know employees are hard to find right now and I empathize with restaurants but maybe they need to look at their business model and instead of being open seven days a week close down a few days to offer better hours on the days they are open, similar to what other businesses are doing but then they could update their online hours accurately. I want to give this business my money but with gas prices I can't keep driving the 20 minutes it takes to get there to find out that they are closed read more

Have always loved the batter-dipped fish here. Not sure if its worth an eleven minute wait. They have some kind of new rewards program...I asked the girl working the register about it. She said it was her fourth day and didn't know anything about it and I should just swipe my card. Didn't bother to ask anyone about the program or get assistance. During my eleven minute wait, the crew forgot one of my sides. This was quickly rectified, but I feel like better care should be taken before plates are delivered to the table. If you're considering lunch, you might as well go to Red Lobster for your cheap seafood fix. The prices are the same, and you'll get biscuits too! Big fan of this unhealthy food, but this visit came back-to-back with another visit (in the drive-thru) that was equally as poor. read more

I get fish from LJS, the kids get burger/hot dog from A&W, we're all happy. They have a ridiculous selection of desserts. And they're good. My son ate a fried Twinkie and loved it. read more

Quality of food aside, this place is awful, even for Long John Silver standards. Stay away! The drive thru coming from Douglas has misleading signage that makes it so that all new customers will miss the ordering booth and get in awkward traffic situations. Adding to that, they take an eternity to serve each customer, and their manager and staff are rude and uncourteous. From the drive thru the place looks like a dump inside. Long johns at 2552 E University in Des Moines has the slowest drive thru. I don't know why they even have one. The employees are rude and could care less about the customer. We ordered shrimp and fish platter we asked for shrimp sauce and when we got home discovered the girl gave us KETCHUP!! Went two days later got the 15 shrimp asked for shrimp sauce and got home to find vinegar. The chicken is full of fatty grissel and rubbery. To have the manager an staff literally stand in the window and laugh if you complain is kid stuff and really shouldn't be working with people. We won't be returning to that location. read more

Long John Silvers on Douglas in Urbandale should be attended by self-service kiosks. I pulled up to the drive-thru and when it was my turn I told the order taker (the receipt says Valerie) exactly what I wanted, as it appeared on the cover of their recently mailed ad. It was a Sweet and Tangy Panko Shrimp basket for $4.99 along with one of their new fried Twinkies. She asked what two sides I wanted. I said this only comes with one side and I want French fries. She said it comes with two pieces of fish and two sides. I said for $4.99, that's unrealistic! She said it was something else. I again repeated what I wanted, exactly. She asked again about a second side! I said, "just the basket, not a platter." She replied with, "So just French fries for the sides?" I tried again. This time she got the basket part down. Then the total she gave me was wrong. I asked her to repeat my order. She had left off the Twinkie! I said I wanted it as well and she said she'll figure it out at the window. After so much time had passed I could have taken a cat nap, it was my turn at the window. She said, "That'll be $9.99." I said, "No, it isn't." I pulled out the ad which had the exact prices on it and said, "This item at $4.99 and this item at 99 cents, along with tax should be six dollars and 30-some cents." She went back to her computer. She said, "Oh, I don't know how the person behind you got their order on here first. Yours is $5.29." Again I explained how it should be six dollars and 30-some cents. She said, "Oh yeah, you wanted a Twinkie." She then got on her headset and said, "Drop down a Twinkie, it was added by a car here at the window." Nope, no it wasn't, it was added 15 minute ago at the drive-thru order point. I said nothing as the total was right now and I was sick of talking to her. After a few minutes she put food in a bag and handed it to me. I looked to be sure it was all there and then said, "Could I please get some catsup?" She put her hands with those long, glued on purple nail claws against her hips and stared me down like I was an infection, saying nothing. I said, "Catsup, please?" I mean, what else do you say at this point? I was about to drive to a nearby grocery store to buy my own since this seemed like such an imposition! The window closed. She grabbed 5 packets and balled them into her hand and then said, "here." I felt like warning the people behind me but I just wanted to flee. I drove away and don't plan on looking back. read more

What a dump! First, the drive through order stand was far off to the side and a first time visitor would never spot it. The building looked terrible, the food was greasy and not particularly good, and the drive up cashier was very rude and wasn't even wearing his Covid mask over his nose. I had the worst experience in the world going through the drive through, I could not imagine how bad the customer service is inside. I first got to the drive through around 8:30pm, they were dead not a single customer. I think I just wanted a diet rootbeer, but I wanted to look over the menu just in case something peaked my interest. Well the drive-thru lady immediately started getting huffy and snippy at me. But then I decided to ask a question and that's when all hell broke loose and there were two people on the speaker box literally yelling me for asking about their sign. A&W - friendly and fast service. Always comes out hot and fresh! I always like coming here for lunch. They have a variety of sauces for your fries, burger, or cheese curds. The root beer in a frosted glass reminds me of when I went to A&W as a kid. read more

Long john silvers closes early. Store open until 10:00 but the doors were locked at 9:10 also 3 other drivers missed out. Lucky for business they will hopefully fix their hours or another business should take its place. Not very happy as I wasted time after I got off work to get here. read more

Went through the drive thru at 4:00 pm today, after sitting there for 15 minutes with no service I went inside to order. Told the gal at the counter what at happened she was very apologetic then looked on the counter and there sat the headset used to take drive thru orders, she said well no wonder and mentioned in to the guy next to her, his remark was oh well there is only one of me so nothing I can do! There were at least 5 other people working and the place was far from busy! I ordered my food to go and waited another 15 min for my food! While waiting an older gentlemen received his to go order and was making sure it was correct which it was not. He was missing 2 pieces of fish, 2 coleslaw and french fries which a very nice worker took care of the problem! I get my food and checked it, no french fries! In my opinion several of these workers need retrained, especially the gentlemen who was working the drive thru. I did enjoy my food once I received it but think I will pick another location to go to next time! read more

We had good food and a good experience. A polite young lady took our order. The restaurant was moderately busy for 2 p.m. in the afternoon, but we received our food in a reasonable amount of time. The last time I ate here (many, many years ago) it was good! This was before the A&W addition.. We went there tonight and staff seemed untrained and unknowledgeable about the menu. It was much like a high school hang out of employees (minus the manager.) There was one young male employee that seemed to take his job serious. Where to even begin about the food.. It was terrible! We had just finished ordering and our food was already brought to the counter.. Sounds like nothing was fresh. I found a piece of shrimp tail in the batter of my chicken! As someone who doesnt eat seafood, that was disgusting! One piece of chicken was ok, the rest were pretty gross. Its pretty disappointing going into a food establishment in Iowa and have bad sweetcorn.. Almost inexcusable! My husband had a chilly dog.. He wasnt very happy with his food either. The dog was comparable to a microwave style cooking, the fries were a luke warm mush. The only good thing was the cole slaw. We will NOT be coming back and we highly recommend staying far far away from there, unless you want to waste your money!! read more

I went to the long john silver's in Urbandale and the food was great. The girl who took my order was very helpful in finding the best deal for my order. The store was clean and inviting. My food delivered to my table was hot, fresh, and so yummy. The person who brought out the food asked if there was anything else we needed. She must have noticed no silverware on our table because she promptly brought it to us, i was just getting out of my chair when she returned. I would highly recommend this location. 06-02-15 11:57AM I have been a long time Long Johns Silvers Customer since the mid 70's never had a problem until today. I stopped in the LJS on 74th & Douglas in Urbandale, used a Customer Satisfaction Survey (all stars btw), and the elderly woman (D) behind the counter said, "when was the last time you used one of these," I said it's been over a month, ok no problem, right? (D) said again "how Lonnng"? I said over a month. She stated multiple times you must wait 6 weeks. Wrong, the survey said one month. She then asked for my name to write on the survey, at this point I am started to get slightly miffed. Someone else brought out my meal, and no receipt, must have gotten thrown away, that's a first for me at any LJS. The customer in line in front of me sat at an adjacent table, one of the polite workers asked if everything was all right, he said Im missing a hushpuppy, the guy went back and quickly brought out two for him, great customer service! As he went back behind the counter the same woman commented "what was his problem", . . . and then something about "Im sure I gave him two hushpuppies", and mumbled something else under her breath. So I felt like Im not the only one she was being rude to today. I managed a grocery store in the late 80's and customer service was everything, I always wanted the customer feel that we went above and beyond the normal service. and I would make right on any return or problem they had, they would leave my store with a smile on there face. Here's hoping the Franchise owner or store manager sees this and actually cares about customer service, and Long John Silver's good name. Management neeeeds to get (D) some further training on simple customer courtesy. Still a lifetime Long John Silvers fan. read more
