On our way home from Thanksgiving break we decided to stop for lunch at the A&W. We wanted something fun and different, and A&W definitely delivered! You place your order by picking up a landline phone at the table, which was such a fun and quirky experience. They were running a 2-for-$8 special, so two of us got the Spicy Papa Burger with chili cheese fries, and our third person ordered a Papa Burger with onion rings. The onion rings and the spicy burger were the favorites of the table. We also ordered dessert...a chocolate cone and a two oreo polar swirls and they hit the spot to finish off the meal. Last time I came it was not a very good visit but this time it was spectacular not only were the staff awesome but they greeted me and were very kind I got a float and they said that I can refill the root beer for free if I ran out. This A&W is my favorite local restaurant. The burgers have a great flavor and the cheese is always melted well. Their cheese curds are excellent - I think it's because of the cooking oil used. The chocolate milkshakes are delicious, and the hot fudge sundaes have a very tasty sauce. The decor is very cute, with old vinyl records on the ceiling, upholstered booths, and some sixties pictures and knick-knacks. The staff is very friendly, taking accurate orders, and keeping the restaurant nice and clean. I highly recommend this restaurant for meetings with friends, family gatherings, or even solo meals. read more

This place is one of my favorite places to go. Old school decor. Friendly employees. Amazing food. Love their fish and chicken. It's our go to. Don't forget the frosty mug of A and W seriously been missing that for a long time! I think it was the owner that turned us on to the orange blended frosty shake. Tastes like a dreamsicle in a cup! Perfect for summer day. Or any day in my book hahaha. The only downside to me is when I crave it it isn't open haha. But that's just because I have two kids and by the time I can think about me, it's 9-10p and they are closed. read more

Ordered two #2 one with just ketchup and two shakes. Was told they didn't have enough ice cream. I told them 2 diet Pepsi's. They brought the order out with no drinks. I asked where the drinks were and I was told I didn't order drinks, just kind of figured a combo was with a drink. After I left I noticed they made both burgers with ketchup only. So I took my family to the A&W carshow in Payette Idaho today. We went to A&W because why not, they are the ones on the flyer that convinced me to go. I took the kids and wife for lunch and a rootbeer float thinking they would have some dollar floats or something. Not the case, they do have everyday deals for $5.00 meals Advertised on the front of the business but I guess during the carshow the deals were not redeemable. Even the employees where upset they couldn't give out the deals which I'm sure is from dealing with cheated customers. Its crude to rack the prices back up to rip off an event. Side note; the Coney Cheese Dogs are 3.50 for a weak 6"... sad Had to re edit; the outside tables are coated in webs and nats, even a simple spray down would do seem so much more sanitary read more

Classic drive-in with a diner feel makes the small-town reality of Payette, Id. I have been to this location and a number of times and so far - definitely so good. For the locals, it may be a bit of the same... but for those of us who are not used to the service and the skill of a true drive. At first I wanted to compare it to the many Sonics that I have been at in other states, but really... there is no comparison. The building is probably as old as the decor. The food is just about the same as what I remember from A&W as a kid. The service is always excellent and even if you don't go here once a week or every day, the staff always seems to remember you. The lot fills up on a weekly basis with old cars and what looks to be, the same people that have probably been meeting here on Thursday nights forever. The floors are clean, there's always condiments (that are offered for you, rather than having to beg for them), and the atmosphere is down-home and comfortable. You get your food in the car in a bag, but it still has the same drive in feel. I have come to love this little drive-in, and you will too. They also have some great deals - 1.00 hot dogs on Tuesday! Remember the A&W's that had a drive-in instead of a drive-through? Where you can order your food from a phone at your booth and the root beer is served in a tall glass mug? This is one of the few remaining A&W's of this era and it's a hoot! Service was friendly, food tasted better and the whole place was super clean. This review is based on only the service we received from the staff at A&W. We didn't get to eat due to the fact we never were served so I will not be able to provide you with any experience with the food. We contact them by the booth phone 3 separate times and 3 separate times they informed us that someone would come out and take our order. All 3 times no one came to our table to take our order. A couple that came in after is was served by a waitress and this was the first 5-10 minutes that we arrived before them. So we took our starving 7 people and our minimum $70 to $80 dollars and spent it elsewhere. I refuse to spend my hard earn money on someplace that doesn't care for my business. So if the owner cares he can find out who was working on Monday August 11th at 1pm. Maybe they can give you the money you lost. read more

In uttermost honesty the place had gotten better with new management. With the addition of breakfast being available in the morning it has almost gotten a diner feeling despite being a chain restaurant and being a little spendy for a chain. The call in menu boards and phone give it a unique flair that saddens me whenever I got to A&W in another state and not see the same genius repeated, what better way to start a conversation with a group of friends then "who is going to order the food?" at the table. And even despite this, the waitress will always stop by at the perfect time to ask you for a refill. read more

I wasn't terribly excited about going to A&W because I really, really don't like root beer, but at our last visit I was thrilled to discover that they now offer Pepsi! Another thing I really appreciate about A&W is that you can sit at your table and order over the phone - and since I use a cane to walk around that is a very attractive option! I love their chilli cheese fries. I always go there intending to order something else but I can't pass up the chilli cheese fries! I also get a hot-fudge sundae because it is getting harder and harder to find good hot-fudge sundaes these days and I want to encourage places that still offer them. They do have a salad bar... if you are interested in salad bars. I like this whole restaurant - the booths are sized well, the floor plan is comfortable, you have the choice to order from your car and have a car-hop bring the food to you, or order at the counter (good for to-go orders) or be seated and have a pleasant server bring you your food. The bathrooms even add to the whimsy of the A&W mystique - if you look up, that is, and notice the shiny black records of old-time favorites stuck to the ceiling! Classic car night - or Cruise Night uses the A&W as their home base so you can enjoy your fries and tell the kids about your memories of the old cars you find in the parking lot. Outstanding chicken tenders that actually are not over breaded & tastes like chicken. The double cheese burger meat was over cooked, but that is typical of all burger joints. Love the ambiance because you use a phone at your booth to place your order. Now that's different! read more

Food is usually great, and well, it's A&W rootbeer, second best made behind Frost Top, (they're only a few around). Service is generally surly, like you're doing them a favor to be there. A smile or two might help, and maybe a hello or welcome, and a "thank you". Service sucks. read more
