This place is a big expensive for what you get, it is typical of food trucks to have small portions and high prices. But, if you are eating here, you are paying for an experience. The place was absolutely spotless. The electronic order boards were a bit clunky for my Boomer style. I ordered a couple Coneys, and they were quick and the chili was great with the perfect amount of mustard ana onions. The dogs didn't quite have the snap I expected- deduct one star. I'm amazed that they can keep the giant plant in the dining area alive and thriving. Next time I'm in the area, this will absolutely be an option.

I ordered a 16oz root beer and a chili dog for $4. I do not know anywhere else where you can get those two items for $4. You can get onions and or mustard if you wish, I got mine with neither. Again at these prices you cannot really complain.

American uses boring "sweet onions" while Lafayette uses "SPANISH onions " which have more kick. But the real difference is the Chili, and that's the reason for the split & disagreement. Lafayette has a MEATER chili, meaning they don't skimp on quality ingredients. My best friend and I used to skip school in the 80's just to eat here. And the bathroom is COOL! It's like an adventure! The other main difference is American Coney has open seating because REAL Detroiters don't eat there. When interviewed there's a real character difference between owners. Grace Keros, the 3rd gen owner of American Coney likes to talk sh1t. You don't need to do that when your product is superior. Every interview she gives is sour grapes.
