My brother and I went to the Dollar General Store today in search of some packaging supplies and…read morepossibly a diet cola pop. Upon entering "DG" (that's what we call it), we were immediately impressed by the automatic sliding doors and prominent display of diet cola pops hanging near the entrance - nice! Strolling towards the packaging supplies aisle, we spied a "reacher grabber:" a wonderful device you can use to grasp items you would otherwise be unable to reach. My brother's pupils widened with joy and I knew it was coming home with us. After a quick lap around the store (we were pleased to find a wide selection of delicious-smelling candles - we're something of connauseurs on this matter, as my brother's girlfriend, who I'll call "Marlando," has recently begun devoting the better part of her day to candle-making... her technique involves taking old wax chips from used candles, laboriously fingering them into baby food jars, then gently pushing a Q-tip through the center) we made our way to the check-out line. Observing our "impulse buy" of a large plastic medieval-style sword, the clerk advised us that a second sword would be 75% off. My brother high-fived himself and sprinted to retrieve said second sword. "Now you'll be able to battle each other," our clerk helpfully offered. Thus, the 4 stars are for exemplary service. Please allow me to explain why I had no choice but to withhold the final star. When we got home, Marlando excitedly snatched up the reacher-grabber. In her haste, she fell down and broke some commemorative plates my recently-deceased grandmother had given to me, but I couldn't stay angry. You see, Marlando had a half-full case of Natural Light and there was a "Chopped" marathon on Food Network. From her perch on the couch in my mom's basement, the desirable, room-temperature Natties sat juuust out of reach on the floor. Marlando gave the reacher grabber a few test squeezes, and settled in for the night. "I wish Ted Allan was my dad," she happily mused to herself, aiming the reacher grabber towards that silvery cardboard treasure box. She successfully got the tongs of the reacher grabber around the girth of that first Natty, and squeezed, eagerly anticipating the warm, familiar froth with a giddy, childlike gasp. Then, it happened. The can slipped from the reacher grabber with a heartbreaking thunk. My entire family turned and stared at the useless reacher grabber hanging limply in Marlando's hand. That was when we knew : the Dollar General Store reacher grabber was a big, big mistake that cannot be undone.

This is the best Dollar Tree to go to in the city. It is located next to Big Lots and Gabriel…read moreBrothers, off of Beechmont Ave. They just expanded their space, so the store is HUGE. The Dollar tree on Ridge is closer to me, but they seem to always be out of something I am looking for (once they were out of paper towels, wtf!). The Beechmont store however is so big, it is guaranteed you will find what you are looking for in mass quantity. The store gets heavy traffic, but it is never crowded and lines are not long. My gripe with the Ridge location is they will only have one counter open for checkout and a line going all the way down an aisle. This location, you can be sure to get in and out. I like Dollar Tree because I love candles. I am one of those people who buy candles and never burn them lol. But with Dollar Tree, since everything is only $1, I can burn yummy candles all I want, and save the good stuff (L'Occitane verbena or Diptyque baies) for special occasions (ie. never lol).

I have a Dollar Tree less than a mile from my home so I don't get to this location as often but I…read moretotally prefer it over the Dollar Tree in my neighborhood. This one has a much larger selection with some pretty quality stuff. This location also has a freezer/refrigerated section which carries things cheese, turkey bacon, frozen fruit, breakfast items. I love their selection and would give them 5 stars but like most Dollar Trees, it's cluttered.

Quite a mixed selection of items giving you plenty to explore... stuffies, toys, craft kits,…read moreclothes, books, electronics, snacks, games, and more. As is to be expected at this time of year, the front area was dedicated to a selection of gift kits and stocking stuffers, and it is a good place to explore for kid options as they had a number of items from popular characters and franchises available. The staff at the check out lane was very friendly and helpful. She was overseeing all of the self checks but was doing a great job checking in with each person about their visit and if they needed any assistance. This location is inside of a shopping center, and there is plentiful parking in the shopping center lot.

It used to be that going to Five Below was a special kind of thing..seeing that the closest location for the longest time was the whole way out in Dayton..or Columbus. Nowadays they are just popping up everywhere..which is understandable because they carry good products at really cheap prices. You can almost look at it as an upscale dollar store..a five dollar store..because most everything they sell is five dollars or below (hence the store name). They're great for picking up cheap phone wires and chargers..cheap HDMI cables..even cheap goofy T-Shirts to wear around the house. This location is set up kind of differently than other locations I've been to. Most Five Belows have the same general set-up..this one if just a bit different..things are in different areas of the store..and the basic design of the store is slightly different. Regardless it's a nice store, very clean and organized, and tho differently placed it still makes sense where things are. They also have a big selection of childrens stuff..toys, games, kits, etc. And they're all cheap as well. If you're in the market for any of the things I've listed, and you're looking to not spend that much on them, I highly recommend checking out Five Below.
