I usually just get a few select sale items or things I can't find elsewhere. Some of the hot food selections are pretty good, as is the deli olive and pasta salad stuff.

The quality is impressive -- they are soft, flavorful, and still taste great even the next day. Compared with Dunkin', Mariano's donuts win for me in freshness, quantity, and overall bakery quality. The layout is more of a big convenient store than grocery store with a restaurant wing, which is just 4 stools on a counter facing into an open kitchen. Prices were very affordable as my burrito dinner ($5.50) and 3 tacos ($1.25 corn tortilla, $1.50 flour tortilla) came to $10 and was amazed to see the guy whip that all up in less than 5 minutes. I also liked that you can watch your food being cooked. Everybody there spoke English so there were no communication problems. When they say if you want everything on it, they mean onions, cilantro, lettuce, tomato, and cheese and it was a good combination of everything. No complaints on the burrito either, which was packed with everything the rice had flavor, which is something that I really don't encounter. Would like to go back and try other entrees.

I do like the deli selections in the store. So, why the three stars you say? While they do offer nice produce and deli I find the prices on the other items ie; milk, eggs , bread , cereal , etc rather high. I'm a jewel shopper so I do not complain about prices often but come on!! These prices are at least 15% higher than jewel. The bf and I were going to pick up some things to give em a little business as we like to shop locally. The prices didn't scare us away. It was the fact that for a grocery store they actually don't have very much selection. They don't have body wash in the soap aisle. We ended up buying some deli meats and shopping at jewel right after. This is when we noticed the items we "were" going to but at el guero were cheaper at jewel. Kinda bad when a can of whipped cream will run you 80 cents higher at el guero. Not to mention, the meat is always better at jewel. Also, the strawberries at jewel looked far superb to those of el guero. I would go to el guero for some deli and their prepared carnitas. Other then that I'll stick somewhere else. There is someone who posted a review about the regular prices being comparable to meijer. Ughhhh no way! I am a meijer shopper and the prices at el guero are ridiculous compared to meijer. So all in all, if you want the ease of running in and out and don't mind paying a little more go here. They are friendly enough and clean enough. I love the fact something is in the empty space as well. I really didn't find the store all that large either.

It's basically a Mexican supermarket but I will say that the fresh produce is absolutely outstanding and way better pricing than compared to Jewel Osco.
