Upholstery work sheer perfection! I took a piece of custom-cut foam and fabric for a wood chair seat to this upholsterer. Their work was sheer perfection! I highly recommend! In addition, Jad and his wife are incredibly nice and charming! I had asked Creative Classics Furniture, where I bought a beautiful sofa along with extra fabric, who they recommended for upholstery work. They recommended A & Jad's in Alexandria. Prices very reasonable. I learned they also sell the type of foam I brought as well as fabric.

Replaced old red fabric with new fabric and new inner foam

Jad and his team did a wonderful job on four S-Chrome chairs we needed re-upholstered. Jad seems to have decades of experience rejuvenating old furniture as was evident throughout the process with his advice on what inner foam we should use and how he tackled the little challenges that came with removing the old fabric. If you want a team that will take their time to do the job properly with the right care and the right materials then you need to go here. We're ecstatic with the finished product and will definitely go back with any future upholstering needs.

Look at the 'knee pad' he added to the front of the legs ... absolutely absurd!!

DO NOT PAY THIS COMPANY IN CASH AS THEY ASK - AS IT TURNS OUT, you may want to have the added protection of a credit card purchase, or rescind a payment after you see the results. I was very disappointed in the way Jad repaired a chair that meant a lot to me. He was very forthcoming about what he would need to do (ok, his description was a little exaggerated, but I thought he was a nice guy who seemed to know what he was doing - [my mistake]. I picked up my chair today, that I now refer to as Franken-chair! It was as if zero skill/craftsmanship went into this job and frankly looked like he didn't know what/how to do the repairs causing the final product to look really bad. Plus,He didn't so much as run a dust rag over the chair before returning it! Then he wiped it down with an acetone rag that discolored where he wiped it. Jad then proudly announced that he had 'done the feet' (no charge) because they needed it, I envisioned newly polished legs - but instead I found a barely painted / stained layer of color on the legs that (1) wasn't dry and came off on my hands, and (2) wasn't even really processed in the way one would ever choose or consider to be finished. See my photos - I cannot recommend this business - and now I think I have a better idea re why it's a 'cash only' business, where the deposit was $150 cash. I should have known better ---

Seinfeld gave American popular culture the character of the Soup Nazi. The man who made delicious soup but who wouldn't hesitate to declare, "No soup for you!" should one fail to follow procedure. I like to affectionately think of Jad as the Refinishing Nazi. (or the Restoration Nazi, or the Rug Cleaning Nazi.) If you're easily offended, don't go see Jad. If you're in a rush, don't go see Jad. If you DO want a brutally honest assessment of the value of your piece, and what it's worth to work on, then definitely go see Jad. He's crude. He's brusque at times. He can be a little hard to take. But he's been doing this for years (he took over the business from his father) and he's fair, and he does great work. For an oriental rug / antique loving gal like myself, Jad is my go-to guy for all my restoration and repair.

I had a bent wood rocker that was damaged during a military move. I initiallywanted it recaned, but was cost prohibitive due to specific type of caning. Jad recommended upholsteing the chair and was able to make it so we can get it recaned when we finally stop moving with the military. Chair looks great and was done well before the estimated date. Supet nice people! And they threw in an extra pillow!

Let me describe the services provided and why it was awesome. We were in the midst of redecorating and had several rooms that we were planning to repaint. Linda had a fixed price for a set number of rooms that we thought was very reasonable to begin with. We were really expecting her to stop by, take a look at our house, understand our needs and provide recommendations. But, oh...she did so much more. Linda spent 7 hours with us! For each space that we consulted her on, she asked us to describe usage, provided recommendations, then held up color swatches on the walls so we could see what the color would look like in bright light and shadows and further gave us decor tips. We did not just pick colors, we felt confident in our choices. As I think back to our initial experience when we moved in, we liked a lot of color and picked some bold colors throughout pretty randomly. Unfortunately, less than 4 years later we are re-painting so many areas because the color seems overbearing or did not really work. If we had used Linda's services right at the start, we wouldn't be repainting so soon so we would have saved money! In the end, we have picked shades of a similar color but as Linda explained, there is a rhythm to this, as you move from active areas to areas where light fades and gets bright, you see a consistency and can also change moods somewhat. Again, YMMV, but all-in-all, I don't think anyone will be dissatisfied with Linda...she goes out of her way to please...she need not have spent 7 hours with us and we think that the decor tips she provided are strong. Her work ethic and enthusiasm was excellent...we almost could not keep up with her even after 7 hours. 10/10 for her service and enthusiasm.

Daniel Donnelly's Modern Design Studio is itself a work of art. Mid-century modern aficionados will appreciate this showroom complete with clean lines and sleek designs. Guys and dolls with a keen eyes will spot some familiar mid-century vintage pieces gracing the floors here. From Heywood Wakefield to Herman MIller to Sarrinen, you'll see their original work scattered among the other swanky goods. The real gems in the showroom are the Daniel Donnelly originals, however. His furniture is, at times, a nod to the aforementioned designers, but his modern designs are certain to become classics in their own right. The back of the showroom is dedicated to custom orders and reupholstery/upholstery/textiles because this is a multi-functioning showroom. What? This is not an amateur you're dealing with. Daniel has a family background in antiques, he's been working in the D.C. design community for well over 2 decades and he's a nice guy. In all seriousness, his credentials check out. After meeting him earlier today, Daniel came across as being professional, friendly and enthusiastic about his work and wanting to create phenomenal modern furniture. Daniel Donnelly Modern Design Studio is on the outskirts of Old Town, Alexandria but this is not a showroom you want to pass up. Don't let the $$$ fool you, he's worth it. As your mama used to say, "you get whatcha pay fer." Looking for distinctive, sophisticated modern furniture with wow factor? Willing to shell out $$$, but sick of the catty Caddy's Alley attitude in Georgetown? Well form fits function, so get your feet formed into your pumped up kicks and check it out already.

I felt almost as though I was walking through a sculpture garden of modern furniture. If you're looking for your run of the mill pottery barn, crate and barrel cookie cutters, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a studio that clearly has an eye for modern design this is your haven. The designer, Daniel Donnelly, searches out vintage pieces, production of vintage designs, refinishes in addition to building his own original designs. The diverse collection is flawless. I've visited on several occasions and dreamt that the studio was my home but on the last visit I had the opportunity to meet Daniel Donnelly. Such a nice gentleman with a passion for his work. Definitely the type of person and business I would like to support. Now I need to just have a little fundraiser to raise some money to show my support. A girl can dream.
