Tony (Groom)- I've been going to Alla for 2 years now to have my clothes altered. She's really become my-mom-away-from-home! She can do it all- everything I've taken to her over the years she's not only been able to fix/adjust but been able to recommend a way to do so that doesn't compromise style! When getting married it was a no brainer who I would go to! I am a shorter guy with a bulkier build and particular taste-- she instructed me to come to her no later than two weeks out from the wedding and we ironed everything out in two visits. I LOVED my tuxedo, I couldn't stop staring at it in the mirror-- neither could my wife on our wedding day! I bought the jacket and pants, shirt and shoes all from different designers and she brought them all together "seamlessly". Her turn around is truly unbeatable for the QUALITY and PRICE of service. I won't go to anyone else. Brittany (Bride)- I have been going to A&I for 4 years. My first alternation was a bridesmaid dress, and since I've brought in swimsuits, jumpers and pants. I'll admit I was still extremely nervous to bring in my bridal gown. Alla did a number of alternations on my gown: shortened the train, took in the waist/hip area, removed fabric from under arms of dress for a more comfortable fit, and added a beautiful 3-point bustle. Alla was worried about adding the bustle since the fabric of my dress was so delicate and heavy, but after 3 visits we were able to get the perfect bustle. She also had concerns about bringing in too much fabric in the waist/hip area but I explained I wanted it form fitting and so she worked with me. Throughout the process Alla would call me when each item was complete so I could come on and try on. We would talk minor adjustments and in the end I was able to get my dress with all alternations complete after 4 visits. Alla was so patient with me through the process- I was particular about fit and had a lot of concerns considering the value of the dress and what it was for. Please DO NOT waste your time and money coming to this tailor. I'm still in shock with the treatment I received today. I parked in the back of the tailor shop as I've done several times before (and there is a parking spot) and entered the shop. FYI my family has gone here before and we were told that it was okay to park in the back each time. Today, my daughters and I walked in and this is what happened: We did NOT get a "hello, how are you?"; we did NOT get a "How can I help you?" What my daughters and I did get was an angry, disgusted look from the tailor with a very, very rude bark of "What do you want"? She then repeated her question (again very rudely) before I can answer - "What do you want?!" Gee, what did she think we wanted carrying a big bag of clothes (inside a Bloomingdales shopping bag) in a tailor shop?! This was so offensive to us that I told my girls that we were leaving. No one should be treated with such disrespect. Maybe she didn't like the way we looked or dressed, although we were dressed nicely and we actually just came from the hair salon. It was her loss. I felt bad that my young daughters had to witness such rude behavior from a business when all we did was just walk in. I had a talk about this incident with my daughters afterwards because they were confused and very hurt. I told them that this was a great lesson to learn from as it's important that they shouldn't have to accept rudeness from people/businesses. What was weird about this happening is that we are not new customers. We have been getting our clothes tailored here once in a while. So this is how she treats customers that have already used her services. Doesn't she realize that to retain and gain more clients, she needs to be nice? Doesn't she know that there are other tailor shops we can go to? As a matter of fact, immediately after this incident, we went to a different tailor near by and we were greeted with a welcoming smile and we were able to have our large bag of clothes tailored. This review is looong overdue, but just wanted to mention how honest the lady here is!!! On two separate occasions, she turned down the job because the clothing didn't actually need it. Like, she could do the job and take my money, but it wouldn't have made that big of a difference. She actually brought to my attention why it was a good thing that the clothes were the way they were, and I was able to walk away feeling satisfied without even getting anything tailored. On the weekends, I work at a performing arts center where they make you wear these hideous Realtor looking jackets. When they issued me one, it didn't fit... in fact random staff members and patrons would stop just to tell me, "oh honey.. that's just not working...." When strangers interrupt their day to tell me I look like a burlap sack, I knew something had to be done. Thus brings me to A & I Friendly Tailor... It's a one woman business run by this nice Russian(?) lady. After she laughed at the sad sight of me swimming in my coat (in a joking manner), she began marking it up. She was first and foremost concerned with making sure it fit me right. I can tell she takes pride in what she does over the fussing she made over my coat. Make sure you thoroughly communicate with her though and leave nothing to be assumed.. because she'll tailor things exactly as the piece is pinned up. If you're getting pants hemmed, bring in the right shoes you'll be wearing them with. I've brought XL T-Shirts turned into a youth size small, pants hemmed with a cuff, sweaters shortened... and she's very accommodating with getting things done quickly if needed. I cant really comment on the price as I havent been to other tailors... but to perform the extensive surgery on the T-shirt I brought in, cost me $30 (even though it's some work to reconstruct it, she felt bad charging me more). The place can be hard to miss but it's RIGHT next door to the AT&T store. It's a small clean shop complete with a dressing room, mirrored area to discuss your alterations, and a cool wall with all sorts of colorful spools of thread. Plenty of street parking, I think there's also parking in the back alley, otherwise pretend you're going to Togo's and park in that lot. read more

Awful attitude by owner - rejected my simple request and could have been more helpful at suggesting alternatives

Ala the owner is wonderful. I always bring my clothes to her for repairs and alterations. She has shortened skirts that are too long, hemmed pants that are too long and taken in dresses that didnt for quite right. Last week I brought in some favorite pairs of jeans that were totally shredded in the seat area. Probably should have been put in the trash but on the off chance they could be saved I brought them in. Well she worked miracles on them. I was totally shocked by the results. You can barely see the repairs, the pants are old so I wouldnt wear them out for the evening but perfect for running errands, hanging out at home or doing something casual. So happy my jeans were salvageable. read more

"Friendly" is not a word that should be in the name of this business. I was referred here to a friend, but was immediately disappointed in the vibe and tone of the woman's voice as soon as I entered. As if she was annoyed she had to help me. Immediately being negative and using the word "no," when asking if it's possible to do a particular alteration is also a poor tactic for a business. The woman seemed very irritated that I was even asking if it were possible, as if I should know! I decided to wait any way. My friend had said they were "great." The woman then asked if I was going to try it on and, after I said yes, she asked in a super rude tone, "where are your shoes then?" They were in the box right next to me. She waited another couple minutes before telling me I'd have to wait an hour because the woman she was about to help was in for a wedding dress. My dress was a simple hem that would take less than 5 minutes but I understood, she had an appointment. It was then that the woman exasperatedly said, "I was open and free all day." Like it was MY fault I didn't come when she wasn't busy. I hadn't been rude or upset until this point. But that was the last straw for me to not want to even have her work on my dress anymore. The good: did a fine job. My blazer fits good. Alla was very nice at first... The bad: She pushes hard for the up-sell. I had numerous garments with me and was only interested in tailoring 1 item, but Alla kidnapped other garments, forcing me to commit to future business. When I later declined, she had a nasty cold attitude towards me. The ugly: Her prices are very high. If you research the standard price, it's about half her cost. I called around to different shops in Los Angeles and Alla's price was consistently $30 over the average. Not cool. Very entitled tailor, doesn't appreciate good business or clients. read more

"You get what you pay for" is the usual lesson we learn in the City of Angels, but with A & I Friendly Tailor - and for once - I actually got more! I went to A & I Friendly Tailor to have a difficult repair made around a logo loosely hanging off the back pocket of a treasured pair of Guess jeans. Wearing them today, I was reminded again of the kindly tailor, Alla, who fixed them up for me almost a year ago, and I must say that the repair on the jeans looks as good today as the day I picked up them up from A & I's! $10 cash was the price I was quoted for the work at the time; $10 was by far the most reasonable quote I was given around town for the same repair. Upon seeing the incredible results on pick up day, I felt Alla's work was worth more than her quote, but alas, she wouldn't let me tip! I'd be willing to travel any distance to go to A & I's again despite the fact that there are probably 50 tailors between our home and Alla's shop. Alla not only gives me the best price in West L.A., but her workmanship truly stands the test of time! read more

I paid $60 to have two white coats tailored. When I got them home, one of the sleeves was significantly longer than the other. I took them back to her and she proceeded to tell me that one of my arms was longer than the other and that it "wasn't her fault". Came home and measured them out of curiosity, and they are definitely the same length. Also, the stitching was uneven and janky. I am $60 out of pocket and now need to find someone else to fix her work. I definitely do not recommend this place. read more

Alla is amazing! I needed a last second hem on a tricky dress, and Alla was so helpful, responded so quickly, and did a beautiful job!

The bad news is that this tailor destroyed a pair of pants that I brought into her shop. Instead of altering the entire inseam as requested, she stopped halfway up the leg, leaving the top of my pants saggy and the bottom of my pants tight. When I asked that she fix her sloppy work, she pretended to not understand what I was saying. The good news is that the lack of parking along Lincoln Boulevard makes it very easy to stay far, far away from this less than impressive establishment! read more
