East Coast Detailing was hired to clean and wax my boat for Five Hundred dollars. I came home…read moremidday for lunch to find one of his crew sleeping in my boat when they were supposed to be cleaning and waxing it. I called Mike and let him know one of his crew was sleeping on my boat. No apology. A few days later I went to use the boat and noticed that it would not start. I checked the helm and noticed there were several switches in the on position including the bilge. The starboard and house batteries are bridged and were both dead from the bilge running constantly for days. I called my mechanic and he tested the batteries and they were deemed bad and could not be recharged. Ok, I ordered new batteries at a cost of $299.98 plus tax and installation. I told Mike that the switches were left on and I had to order new batteries. He said they would take care of anything that they did wrong. The invoice was $500 so I text him him and say I had to buy new batteries because your crew left the switches on so let's just call it even...even though my cost was about $200 more than his clean and wax. No dice, he said I pay him or he will put a lien on the boat. A lien..are you kidding. So, I paid him the $500 and now I write this review. Beware.

We hired DJ's Dive Service to monthly bottom clean our boat, including taking photos of the…read morecondition of the zinc anodes. He quoted us a price that was higher for the initial cleaning than for subsequent cleanings. He told us if the zincs needed to be changed we would be charged for the zincs but the labor for changing the zincs would be free. It was determined that the trim tab zincs and the shaft zincs needed to be replaced, but his divers said they couldn't remove them. So DJ came out several days later and replaced them. Then he sent us an invoice charging us for his labor! We didn't feel like we were responsible for, nor should we pay for, his workers' ineptness. After the second cleaning he sent us an invoice at the initial higher first cleaning rate. When I pointed that out, he provided a corrected invoice. When DJ installed the new zincs he left the old trim tab zincs on the dock, but didn't leave the old shaft zincs on the dock. When we asked why not, he said it was because there weren't any zincs on the shafts. We found that to be suspicious because we had witnessed them being installed just several months earlier during a haul out. At the next bottom cleaning DJ said his divers would take photos of the zincs. When they showed up, they said both of their cameras were broken. So we loaned them our GoPro to take the photos. They only took pictures of the trim tab zincs, but not the shaft zincs. So I donned a mask with my GoPro and dived under the boat to see for myself. The old shaft zincs were still on the shafts along with the new ones. So DJ had lied about there not being any previous shaft zincs. When I asked him about this, he got all pissed off and said he didn't want to work for us anymore! If you are going to hire him our advice is: Grab a mask and verify their work yourself underneath the boat before paying them.

I have a difficult time figuring this place. It seems that there usually isn't anyone here. The…read moreshades are always pulled but with two dogs peeking through at you. I was, however, lucky enough at one point to finally catch someone in and though I happen to like dogs, I'm not so sure they should have the run of an office space, but the person I met was pleasant and nice. I explained my problem, being with a marine GPS unit. He kindly explained what might what he thought might be the nature of the problem, asked me to check out of few things then call in to set up a repair appointment aboard my boat. Accordingly I did check the things out he mentioned, phoned him back but said he couldn't set anything up any specific repair time at the moment but would phone me back to arrange it for it on a Thursday or Friday of that week. Well, as is rather typical with how thing go in South Florida when someone says they'll phone you back, they often don't, and he didn't. So, after both of his suggested appointment dates had pretty much passed and no call, I drove back to his office and again no one except the two dogs were there. When someone operating a business fails to do what they say they are going to do such as phoning back, have a closed office with no door notes or indications of when their office might be open and two suggested appointment dates missed, such begins to raise serious questions of reliability in my mind so I generally go looking elsewhere, which in this case I did. Since they didn't perform any of the services I wanted them to perform, I can't comment on the quality of their work, but I can comment on the manner in which they seem to operate their business, which is a flat out Eek! I won't be back. One Star, which is in fact one star more than they deserve.

Joe is one of the most honest business man I ever met , tells you up front what he can do ,shakes your hand , does what he promises, and usually got more than than what I expected. And they give zero f**k about your boat and your business, we took our 40' Sea Ray in for a repair back in September, we went to them only because they are close by on the water way, Mike told us we have to replace the entire left engine, which costs us $7000 for the new engine, he agreed upon $3000-$4000 for the labor before started replacing the engine, and gave us an estimate about one week, but it took them 2 and a half weeks (13 days) to put everything back together, he had no shame to ask us to compensate for his incompetent and procrastination, we were told to pay $10000 for the labor and parts!! We tried to get a break down from all that ridiculous amount of charges but he refused to explain, he just told us his labor are expensive and if we don't pay them we are not getting our boat back!!! Beyond shock and frustrated we paid and got the boat back and thought we will NEVER go back again. Two months later, the left engine was smoking while we are on the water taking some guests out, we took the boat back to Mike politely asked him to check what when wrong, it took him another week to take the engine apart and he assumed the brand new engine was a defect and asked us to take it back the wholesaler for testing, we drove 3 hours to Punta Gorda to have the engine tested by the professionals, results back it was complete fine!! We were told that is was Mike's fault that his mechanics didn't install it correctly, the parts they used were faulty, they did a sloppy job which causes the damage, the wholesaler rebuilt the engine in a week and said we should ask Mike for compensation and he supposed to pick up the charges and fix this mess. Another week passed when Mike and his guys finally put the engine back together, we got another huge bill $4000 to pay otherwise we don't get our boat back!! That's how they trick you to get paid, they took the boat apart so you have to leave it to them to fix, regardless they fix it or not you will have to pay their labor and whatever they say, otherwise you're not getting your boat back! The owner has no sympathy towards his clients, his shop is a junk yard, I can hardly image anybody could possibly work in a place like this, I hope you will never have to deal with what we've been through after reading this, go for any mechanic in Miami but them!
