We called in the late afternoon to have a dead battery jumped. Paul put me on hold for a minute, got back on the line and said someone will be there in 20 minutes and they were! My 98 year old mother said that the man that came to jump the battery was very nice. He told her that the battery was a 2018 and she probably needed a new one. Once her car was charged, she drove to a local service station and had a battery installed before the day was over. (Yes, she still drives). Paul was very nice and efficient. Every time I get a n automobile mishap, A1 immediately , UNDOUBTEDLY comes to my mind to call right away. To be honest, I thought I had reviewed Paul here years ago. This review is pretty overdue. The first time I received service from A1 was over 8 years ago, when I ran on a flat tire with my yellow bug. It was raining and I was on my way to work. The first thing I did was check Yelp for auto mechanics. Some of my friends at work offered to use their AAA but since I really didn't want to be a bother, I called A1. In 13-30 minutes, he was parked next to my car - and getting his equipment ready. He didn't mind the rain at all. Paul is ALSO one of the jolliest roadside assistants I've ever met. He replaced my flat tire and charged it to my insurance company. Not only that - he delivered fast service. All of that done with no trouble ! Heck, I didn't even get in trouble at work for being away so long (cuz I wasn't). FFW 3 years or so, I got stranded with a dead car (red VW Beetle... I know never again ! I like Japanese cars better now). I recalled A1 and he came to my rescue once again and like the last time, charged it to my insurance. I was very thankful for having reliable A1 during those unfortunate events. THIS YEAR, I got older and left my key inside the car. It's not one of those cars that don't lock when the key is inside - it's an older vehicle. To tell you the truth, at first I really thought THAT's it, I'll have to break the glass. Ha ! I remembered A1 again... after all these years ! I was parked in the parking area at the apartment AND he found me, unlocked my car and zoom zoom, charged to my insurance. Yesterday, I used A1 Road Service for the towing of my Toyota Tacoma truck. I highly recommend them for any towing or service needs. First of all, they answer their phone. Yes, very strange, LOL, someone actually answers the phone when you call. Additionally, they told me they would call back with more information and a return phone call was indeed received. Wow, a company that actually returns a phone call too. The tow truck driver arrived on time and immediately put on a mask to protect me from Coronavirus. He had the mask on the whole time and was very aware of trying to social distance as much as possible. I felt very safe and appreciate his usage of the mask. I am over 70 years old and had not driven my car for several months so it would not start. I called several towing services and A-1's quote was the lowest. Paul arrived at my home earlier than what he told me. He quickly jumpstarted my car. Then he noticed that my car was not running smoothly. He used his electronic meter to test my battery and it printed out the conclusion that my car battery must be replaced. He recommended me to drive my car to my mechanic with him following me in his truck in case my car needed another jumpstart on the way. My mechanic's garage was out of the way from Paul's garage but he still followed my car for a 20-minute drive. My mechanic also concluded that my car battery must be replaced. Paul then noticed that it was still under warranty by O'Reilly Store. By showing his meter's printout to an O'Reilly store employee, he promptly gave me a new replacement battery. Then Paul helped me to properly installed the new battery. It has been a week and my car has been running without any problem. I cannot thank Paul enough for his excellent service, far above the normal call of duty. I would strongly recommend him to anyone who needs a towing service. read more

Long story short, my POS Nissan PU's right upper control arm came off the frame while I was on Lawrence and I nearly crushed the poor dude on the next lane. After some panic maneuvers I pulled over to a side residential street and walked home (yeah, I didn't bring my cell phone. Not the brightest light in the harbor when it comes to these things, admittedly). I went home, got on Yelp and found A-1. It was almost 10pm at night, Paul picked up right away. He was courteous and not least agitated by my late evening intrusion. Having to travel to Gilroy early the following morning, I asked whether he could send someone at 6:30am tomorrow. "We are 24hr service, whatever time is good for you, it's good for me". The next morning before I arrived two guys already showed up there and hoisted the wheels. They obviously know what they are doing - towing a 4x4 isn't the same as towing a regular car, and they did it right. 20 minutes later they towed it to where I told them to, only charging me $60. $70 for a tow, and I only had to go down the street. Eh they did do it quickly and with a smile. Had a chat about sports so I guess that helps their customer service review, haha. Still thought it was pricy, although they had to do some extra labor that really did nothing. I had shredded tire stuck on my rim and they tried cutting if off with a blade. Had to be done otherwise it would have messed up my axle, and make it even harder to tow. When I called they said they would be there in like 20 mins, although on Yelp Mobile my address is literally .01 miles away from them, lol. I will keep their number in my phone for emergencies as they come any time of the day or night and offer other services like getting gas, getting locked doors open, etc. read more

This review covers two separate services. I was off driving in the field from an appointment and started hearing a thumping noise. I pulled over and discovered a flat tire. After calming down, it was 80+ degrees out and I was wearing suit, I yelped a few road service businesses and called a few of them. Paul wasn't the first one I called but he was the last from here on out. The other shops, a)were understaffed or b)didn't care or c)completely clueless as to how to handle customers in my situation. No, I do not want a call back an hour and a half later. Paul not only offers great rates but he tries to help by recommending cheaper alternatives than what you might be calling about. He earns his five star review. He also helped my sister-in-law out on a separate occassion where we called him multiple times telling him that we needed his services and then that we didn't, vice versa. A1 Road Service was very efficient to send their staff to restarted my car. In the beginning , I was skeptical to accept a stranger to my house to start a car on my drive way. About 30 minuets later, a man in uniform came to my door. I verified his name, Ron, and who sent him. Ron checked my car and told me to reset the computer in the car by disconnect and reconnect the auxiliary battery in the back of the car. It worked like a magic. Ron has seen this kind of failure from many electric car. He also recommended to buy a 12V trickle battery charger, running 1.2A-4A , to charge the auxiliary battery when not driving. To confirm Ron's diagnosis, I spent $120 to diagnose the car in an auto repair shop. The results were not conclusive. I only know that my car doesn't have other problems than losing charge even just sitting over night. I discussed with a good mechanic, Tom, at Hung Auto Repair today. I think parasitic discharge while not driving may be the cause of failure. Another reason is the auxiliary battery may have one dead cell out of 6 cells. My conclusion is Ron has recommended the right approach for a 10 year old electric car. I highly recommend Ron and A1 Road Service. read more

As good as it gets! My tow driver showed up in the parking lot of a company where I'd gotten my car to limp to when it threw a piston, while I was waiting in a hotel with WiFi across the street. Got a fairly long tow up to my garage on the Peninsula, where *I* made a mistake about the address of the garage ... but he was very patient, pulled around to make the difficult "U", and got me up the street to the right spot. Never choose this fvckin company for towing. Never! I got frustrated by the fvckin stupid proprietor of A1 service. That's was the worst experience ever! He spoke to his customer with discourtesy and disrespect through the whole conversation,and his words made me--an underaged girl crying so hard. I was just wondering if they could do me a little favor--leave a message to the bodyshop. Guess what? The proprietor said it's none of their business and going to cancel this deal. And he didn't even apologize for being disrespectful. I don't think A1 auto deserves a 5 star. Since there's only 37 reviews, they're probably workers from the A1 shop and cheating customers. Paul is extremely accommodating. I strategically left my purse, along with wallet and car keys, in my vehicle. You don't want to be in need of lockout service without means of prepayment. This was discovered by contacting a few nameless tow companies who refused to entertain my needs as I was unable to pay until I had access to my purse. First of all I am on a Fixed Income, so Price matters to me - I am not like some of these Flat Earther Tea Party members, so How I spend my money is very important. I had a rather unusual request. I needed a car moved from the Driveway in front of a Garage Door to a car pad about 40 feet away. My drive way is Y shaped this will help with you see what I am trying to do; so we are moving it from the right side to the left side of the Y. Spoke too 3A and no can due. Not an Emergency, called the first tow service on Yelp and it was Mucho Expensive. Called A-1 Road Service and spoke to their dispatch person who called the Driver of the Tow Truck - Jose; to check if he could do it and would call back. I did not have long to wait I received a call and was told for 50 bucks Jose would do it - and could be here in 30 min - I said fine as that was the cost for the amount of Beer it would take for 6 guys to do the job. Jose showed up and he moved the vehicle in about 15 min. Thank You Jose, Thank You A-1 Road Service. Here is a Math problem if you want to do it - The car is a compact and the driveway is slanted, so I will let you figure out the amount of force needed on an inclined plane.
