A-1 Rental saved the day! My daughter was scheduled to have her bat mitzvah in December. In Michigan. During a global pandemic. But this date had been scheduled for years, and changing it was not in the cards. Once the vaccines were available, including the ones for younger kids and boosters, we were cautiously optimistic about holding a smaller event indoors. Then the specter of Omicron raised its ugly head, and we reconsidered the wisdom and safety of pulling off such an event. With less than two weeks before the event, we decided to pivot and try to move it into a tent in our yard. In December. In Michigan. A-1 Rental was able to make it happen! Some other tent company told me they wouldn't even try to put up a tent in December. But A-1 sent a crew to my house to check out the property, assessed the largest tent they could pitch, and gave me a list of things to do before it could safely be installed. Namely that was to call Miss Dig and cut down a low hanging branch. The sales team was great and hooked me up with everything I needed, and maybe even things that I didn't need but I really wanted. They said one tent heater would be sufficient, but I wanted two. Plus I wanted a crap ton of extra propane tanks to run those bad boys. I have to say, tent heaters are magnificent! They kept us toasty in a tent that was well ventilated on a below freezing December afternoon. The day before our event, the setup team came within the scheduled window. Consulted with me about where everything should go, and got the heaters working. Actually, one wasn't working, but they sent another team to fetch a new one. The day of the event, one of the heaters still wasn't working, but a new crew came with a functional replacement. I don't think our guests even knew anything happened. We got to keep the tent for the whole weekend, which was rad. The propane supply held out. And the pickup crew took everything away as scheduled. No muss. No fuss. For those concerned about how everything worked out from a COVID perspective, we required everyone over five to be vaccinated, and provided rapid tests so everyone could check the morning of the event if they were contagious. We even sent some additional tests home with folks so they could retest before returning to their families. Everyone returned happy and healthy! And we could not have pulled this off without A-1. Rented for Grad party. Sent over dirty glasses. They did provide us replacements before the party started, which was nice, but when they came to pick up, they dropped the crates of glasses on the ground and shattered glass was everywhere in areas where kids play. That was terrible. read more

A-1 Rental - Great Service, Great Price and Great Customer Experience! We rented a scissor lift from A-1 Rental in July 2019. They were easy to talk to on the phone. They are very knowledgeable. They have great rates. We had the lift delivered. This was a seamless process and the delivery person unloaded the lift and placed it near our business. They picked up the unit when they said they. The 26' lift was in perfect working condition and exceeded our expectation. We highly recommend A-1!! read more

Came in to rent a hand dolly, was told it was $65 even if it was just for an hour. I told them I just came from Stadium Hardware and that they were selling hand dollies for $65 and was wondering if they could work with me since I'm just down the street (I live on Liberty). The guy said "if that's true I'll give it to you for free". Whelp, turns out I took a picture of the dolly at stadium hardware, texted it to my partner who said "see if A1 will rent you one for cheaper, we don't need it for anything other than this one thing". So I showed the A1 guy the dolly and price in the picture. The guy didn't say anything at first, just motioned his co-worker over. He said to his coworker "watch this. - it's 75 dollars now". I was astonished... These guys were acting like bullies. Could have just said "No, we're sorry, can't do a deal for you" and I'd have been on my way. I don't get it, still don't get it. There was no need for that terrible behavior. I ended up stopping by the Share House while running errands and bumped into the owner who I had never met before. They loaned me a hand dolly for free. When I came back 45 minutes later after I finished I forced him to take $20. Major point is good and bad experiences can stick with you for a long time. Next time I need to rent equipment I'll go to the next town if need be. Never again with A1. read more

We had to organize an outdoor memorial service on relatively short notice and although COVID hasn't complicated planning such events with the impact it had last year, it was still a factor. I've used the A-1 Rental party side for several events over the last year and have had consistently great experiences. Our most involved order was for our wedding last fall. Our wedding was held at our friend's farm, and the reception was in the barn, so we needed the seating for both the ceremony outside as well as tables and such for the reception. The prices were incredibly reasonable, and they had a variety of price points and options for the chairs. They were easy to order from, and the front desk staff talked me through the process and made sure I was covered, from a cake table to gifts and everything in between. September was a busy time for them, and, in particular, our wedding weekend was pretty crazy, so they were a little on the later side delivering our order. Admittedly this made me a little stressed since the office was closed and I was slightly panicked that we'd be having guests eating on the floor, but eventually they showed up and did a great job setting everything up to our specifications. We also had a post-wedding brunch at our house the next morning, and they were cool with us using the chairs for that as well, as long as everything was back in place at the time of pick up on Monday morning. Most recently I rented a snocone maker for one of our events and had a breezy time. They have a smaller selection of flavors for the snocones themselves, so bare that in mind, but the price was fantastic compared to other places I'd been and pick up and returns were easy peasy. The ladies at the front desk in who helped me this last time were SO friendly and made the process really simple. Now, I can't speak to the tool rentals but for parties? I would absolutely rent from them again for any future events, no hesitation. read more

Worst company to deal with. Would have given them a -5 star if they would let me. My cousin had a wedding and paid for a tent and tables to be setup. Well they only setup the tent half ass and when it rained it fell in on itself. Thank god they where still there and put it back up but they did nothing to fix it for when it rained again later that night. All the guys had to use chairs to keep pushing the water off the top of the tent. Then after they put the tent up they just stacked the tables and chairs up and said we didn't pay for them to put them out. The sad part was it was on the contract. read more

Let me start by saying, tools are not my thing... I came to A-1 with all sorts of questions about refinishing my floor. Had n o idea what was needed or where to start. I did not want to pay someone else an arm and a leg. Instead of making me feel like a dumb old fart, I received solid guidance from Ben at the tool desk and Tom over the phone. I'm so impressed with A-1 Rental (and Carol specifically). I called on a Monday for custom colored linens I needed on that Saturday. Oh and it was the week of Thanksgiving. Not only was she able to get them in time, but when she couldn't reach me to let me know that they hadn't come in yet and I showed up (on Friday), she took them to my work so I didn't have to make an extra trip out. Then I returned them a day late and it was no problem for them at all. The linens were perfect for the event and the custom color to go with my theme made it perfect - and the price was reasonable. What a rotten service. We ordered chairs and tables for 30 people (many of whom were elders) and they just didn't show up (despite being paid in advance) Our people had to sit on the ground on makeshift blankets. Elders! And a nursing mother! We had no proper confirmation and since it was on a Sunday, there was no number to call to find out what was going on. They were meant to deliver at 3- by 4 i had called and left messages and sent an email. By 5 i was asking people to bring along things to sit on. Absolute disgrace. When we finally got in touch with them Monday they said their driver had tried to call. Lies. No call was received. Then what?- the driver just gave up? Couldn't find an easy address with a GPS? Couldn't come to the house and knock on the door? Rubbish. I heartily do not recommend A1 rentals. read more

We recently had our wedding and rented a ton of things from A-1. They were amazing. We ended up getting our tent, dance floor, chairs, plates, table covers, goblets etc... from them. They were perfectly on schedule (or ahead of schedule!) and professional throughout our business transactions. My wife and I came in person twice to look at things in their store, and they were more than willing to show us around and get out whatever we wanted to look at. Tent set-up went super smoothly, and they arrived on-time. If you are looking for a tent rental in the Detroit metro area, you won't find a better deal on tents, I looked around quite a bit before landing on A-1, and they were even cheaper than rental places that specialize in tents (by a good amount). The tent looked great as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend A-1, for anything from a wedding to a simple backyard party, they've got everything, and the price is right, attitudes and service were great. read more

The following was mailed to A-1 on 10/3. We have not received a reply or apology: Dear A-1, My husband, Adam, and I were married on September 10. For 13 months, we meticulously planned, re-planned and perfected what would be our perfect wedding day. At times, it was difficult. We rented an almost too-good-to-be-true venue in Jackson, Mich. We were lucky enough to get an absolutely gorgeous, dream-like space for our big day, but that meant we would have to arrange everything else--yes, from the fork to the decorations to the sprinkles people threw at us--all by ourselves. Since we're both planners, it was a challenge Adam and I were up to...and our goal was to make it the smoothest experience for everyone involved along the way, including our vendors. Fast-forward to the week of the wedding and everything was going as well as we could have hoped for. Thursday night, we hung all the lights, stuffed vases with fairy lights and set up the soccer net that would be our altar. All of this so that Friday would be a breeze. Because, on Friday, you were scheduled to arrive then with everything we couldn't provide ourselves: tables, chairs, linens, napkins, dishes, silverware, coffee makers, water pitchers...basically everything to make our venue feel like an oasis for our big day. Adam confirmed with you on the phone that the ideal time for arrival on Friday was between 10 a.m. and noon. We understood that our contract said anytime after 10, but after Adam's touch-base, we were in good spirits and feeling confident. That was our first and only mistake. We should have gotten the 10-12 arrival time in writing. Because we are planners and were so humbled to have family and friends volunteer to help with setup, we were organized. We had a group of 10-15 people at the venue at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, ready to set up with more than enough time to make our rehearsal at 5:30. The only problem was you didn't show up between 10 and noon... I waited until 12 to call you. I was greeted by a very gruff, un-empathetic voice on the other end, who told us your trucks wouldn't be there until 2. I know it was 2 because I wrote it down. You see, I was in a weird Zen-like wedding state at that point, but I am a manager by day, one that typically doesn't deal with crap, so I knew that, at some point, I dreaded, I might need these records. 2 rolled around and still no sign of you. Adam called this time. Trish had bad news: you wouldn't be getting there until 4:30. I called at 4:40 to figure out where the heck you were. I was less than lucky and got the unfriendly woman again. "They left 10 minutes ago. It's Friday at rush hour, you know." No apology. Our rehearsal time rolled around at 5:30. Sweaty and in street clothes, we rehearsed in an empty venue with the crowd of people who had been sitting around all day with nothing to do. A-1 didn't arrive until 6:45. Our rehearsal dinner was at 7. Thank God we hired an absolutely amazing, indispensable day-of wedding coordinator. After you completely ruined our entire Friday, her day-of responsibilities crossed over into two. She stayed with your delivery team and managed to have them help set up the tables on Friday night while we went to dinner--sweaty, thanks. Saturday came. Saturday, what was supposed to be the greatest, most calm and worry-free day of our lives. That didn't happen. Though mine went as planned, Adam's was chaos. He, our wedding coordinator and an assortment of lifesaving family members and friends busted their butts to set up that space. Because he and I had chosen not to see each other before I walked down the aisle, I did not step foot into our venue until that very moment. Our wedding coordinator, being the amazing woman that she is, managed to negotiate $400 off our bill for your ineptitude. She told us you had fought her on even that amount. Well, let me tell what $400 meant to us. It meant paying our coordinator for the extra hours she worked. And I can tell you, what was left over after that came nowhere close to compensating for what you took from us, from me. I am a huge stickler for detail; I wanted to be leading venue setup. I wanted to be saying little things like, "Can you please move that table a little to the left," arranging keepsake items on our welcome table, admiring the layout of the 20 thrift store pieces I purchased to make our donut ice cream sundae bar table just right. I didn't get any of that. There were no moments for me before the wedding where I got to stroll around, in awe of the room we spent 13 months conceptualizing, organizing and creating. You stole that from us, A-1. And we'll never be able to get it back. For the rest of our lives, you will be the reason our wedding day wasn't perfect. So, the next time you have a client--as large as the University of Michigan or as "small" as a wedding--I hope you think about that. You owe us a lot more than $400. I hope another client never has to go through what we lost. read more

It's like walking into an episode of Seinfeld to even go in here. While you wait you can enjoy whitty repartee with your friends about how they stay in business. Then you can be waited on by monosyllabic guy or misogynist guy (who is admittedly more of an Amy Shumer character). If you are a lady, don't expect to be waited on or have your questions answered. You don't need a tool anyway. We've rented from them several times for tools but who can tire of being treated like you're stupid due to your boobs? Every interaction I had with anyone who worked at the front desk was horrific. Worst service I've ever experienced. The delivery men were supposed to set up chairs and tables, they left them in a pile in my front yard. They were supposed to do a site check to see what kind of tent we could fit in our yard. This company has been around Ann Arbor for decades, so when I needed a tent, tables, chairs, etc. for an outdoor wedding, I called A-1. Our experience, however, was really bad. Among the problems: * tent was dirty (muddy on inside walls all the way up the sides) * tent had several holes in top and sides, ranging from tiny to 6" We called to complain right after it was set up, but they weren't able to bring a different tent until the next day - just 6 hours before the wedding. The 2nd tent was fine. * When we started setting up tables, silver, plates, glasses, etc. we discovered some of the wrong things had been delivered, e.g. champagne flutes instead of wine glasses. We called the office and they said we could come pick up the correct glasses if we wanted them, but wouldn't deliver. * Customer service was TERRIBLE. They were rude when we called about their mistakes. They said the mistakes were ours, despite the fact that I had a record of my written email requests. * The bill was incorrect. They charged us both for the glasses we DID order and the glasses we DIDN'T order, and since the wrong ones had been delivered, the refused to take it off the bill. All of this added unnecessary and unneeded stress on the day of the wedding and the night before. Would I use A-1 again? Never! read more

I have been coming here for all my events. I have to say I am very Pleased with the service I receive. This is the second time I have placed a order and Patty has helped me every time. She is pleasant and very helpful. I asked several question and changed things up. She made sure to make sure everything was correct on my order. She never seemed annoyed. I have to say this place is very busy and even though it seemed hectic coming in they handled this very good. I would reccomend coming here for your event. I see a few negative reviews that i just dont understand because they really to go beyond the call of duty. If something isnt right they will do their best to correct it and make it right. I look forward too many more years of doing my business here. I just think Patty is great! read more

I rented from this company at the beginning of July and would never ever do it again. I rented chairs, tables, and high cocktail rounds for a baby gender reveal party, for my client. I was sent a quote right away, and was happy with the amount. They took my deposit and I secured the date and time. They never followed up, so the week before I called to verify and they said they were all set. A day before the event happened, I received a message asking for my credit card again for the deposit. I called back and explained that they already took the deposit and that I was concerned that they didn't have this information. They told me that they lost all their information in the system and that they have no way of proving they already took the deposit. I informed that I was driving and as soon as I got a chance, I would send over a screenshot and email the bank statement over. She agreed, and said she would look forward to the email. It took me about an hour to send it over, and then I got a phone call back about three hours later, stating that she had taken the deposit (again) and took the full amount for the balance of the rental, and that they would re-issue my original deposit, because she saw my email sent over. . I was very irritated, that I now had been charged twice for the deposit and was told that she would be fine, if I sent it over to her in screenshot form. Fast forward to the day of. I was told they would be there between 8-11am. I got to my client's house at 9am sharp, to start setting up. 11 rolls around and I did not have chairs still, I called up to the rental place and was told that they were on their way, and they would be there any minute now. 11:15 rolls around, and still noone, 11:30, 11:45, I call back, and noone answers. 12:00, still noone and no answers. 12:15pm, I finally reach someone. The lady that answered the phone, was very irritable that I kept calling and said that I had to be patient. She said they were in Westland, still dropping off, and as soon as they were done, I would get my chairs and tables dropped off to me. 12:30. still noone, Finally I called back and stated that I needed to know the exact location of these drivers, as I had a party to decorate for. 5 minutes later, miraculously someone showed up. I was told on my original receipt/invoice that they would be able to pick up the day of. As I was talking to the lady at A-1, she informed me they do NOT pick up that late and that they would not be able to come until Monday morning. This did not make me happy or my client happy. That night, I left after I cleaned up my part of the party. My client informed me, that they came at 8pm to try and pick up the rentals, even though we were told they couldn't Monday morning, I got to my clients house at 8am and gave them a call, no one answered until 8:15am. I spoke to the manager finally, (I asked for her to call me, and she never called me) and she was just as rude as the original lady I had been speaking to. When explaining it to her, she interrupted several times, and told me her worker would NEVER say something like that. I asked for a refund of the deposit and she fought me on that, I also asked her for a refund of the inconvenience of them being so late, she refused. She finally only gave me the deposit amount back. I asked her to speak to an owner and she said she would email me the information. I never received an email, or a phone call back. read more

After using A1 rental for over a decade, for equipment, NO MORE! Last 3 rentals have been disasters. When the equipment fails to work on the jobsite, they shrug their shoulders and say oh well. Highly recommend Wolverine rentals on S. State street! Rented from them twice in 2019. Equipment ran like new. read more

We use them recently for a backyard party we had, there was a little mix up on the chairs we needed but they immediately worked to figure it out for us. They came the day before party to set everything up and were very helpful in figuring out what we needed as we had never rented for the size group we had. We will use them again:) read more

If they could get half a star they would. Unprofessional, rude and inconsiderate. Tables and chairs were supposed to come this morning. Called at 2 still no tables and chairs . That's because they delivered them to the wrong address. And it a our fault not theirs. According to the owner, manager or whoever she is. Our function is in two hours and they refuse to make it right. Found another place and we are getting them from them. If you want good experience and want to be treated rude and hung up on, then they are the company for you. read more

We used A-1 for a UM graduation party to tent the back parking lot. Trish and her staff were always responsive, rolled with whatever changes we needed them to, made many changes to the original contract and always followed through. We ordered the tent, lights, heaters, a projector and screen. Everything came on time, with the execution of some extension cords and those were delivered within a half an hour of our notifying them. A-1 even came to measure and approve the sight for the tent on their own since I was in California wording this from thousands of miles away. Would use them again in a heartbeat if my son hadn't graduated! read more

Very good rental shop. Staff was always helpful but kept their distance. No pressure. Order your vehicle online, pick it up, use it and return it! Pretty damn simple. I used them several times when I moved my office and there were no problems. Most of the vehicles were low mileage and extremely clean. I have used A-1 a few different times for parties and projects around the house over the past few years. I have rented items ranging from the giant bouncy water slide, the snow-cone machine, to a wet saw and have been pleased every time. I like the new owners and the improvements they have made. Sometimes it has taken a try or two to reach them by phone, but it's worth the effort. read more

I should have researched this company more. We had A-1 deliver tables, table linens, chairs, china and silverware for a big Thanksgiving celebration. We had a few different size oblong tables. Only one of the table linens fit properly. I was given a round table cover to fit an oblong table which was huge and looked awful. Even the other oblong tables didn't have proper sized linens and I had to fold and tape them. I ordered the white wood, padded chairs. They all looked like they belonged in a dumpster! They were dirty and the paint was chipped and scraped on every single one. And I don't mean just a little chip of paint here and there, they were awful! Since it was two days before Thanksgiving when they dropped it all off, I was stuck with everything. Their response was that they would just come pick it all up if I didn't like it. I would never rent from this company again. And the next company I rent from, I will ask for linen measurements for each table, and inspect other items before I have them delivered. read more
