I was in the mood for a cheese fish sub and came here to find out what this place's was all about. A-1 Pizza and Subs has been in the small shopping center across from the Weis on Maiden Choice La. for a minute. I remember when it used to be a beauty supply store! There was plenty of off-street parking available on the lot. I called my order in: cheese fish sub with everything. I arrived and was greeted by an intimidating, but pleasant man to pick up my order. The ambiance was so expected for a carryout only establishment: small, orderly and fast-paced. I got my order and was in my way. The cheese fish was tasty. They used a whole breaded fillet, not the square shaped fish one that usually comes with a fish sub. Everything was fresh and I enjoyed it. My only gripe was that the fillet was thin and it would really knock this sub out of the park if it had TEW of them in the sub. All in all, I was not disappointed and will be back to try the cheesesteak sub and maybe the pizza. read more

The staff had a great attitude and provided a detailed description of the items on the menu and the specials. Although the menu was faded and no new menus were available, the food was ready in a timely manner. The "Over Stuffed sub" was more than enough, and the fries were hot and crispy, with a soda included in the price. Definitely will go back. read more

When I call they immediately know what I want no matter how long it has been since I last ordered and they address me by name when answering the phone. Last week I ordered my usual cheese steak sub with everything and provolone cheese. It arrived in a timely fashion piping hot. I was so hungry that I devoured my food without taking a pic. I come to town twice a year from the West Coast where pizza and subs just aren't the same as the East Coast varieties that I grew up with. I prefer the little places with no atmosphere and good food. This is where this place ranks. In a little strip mall next to a liquor store/bar it fits the dive bar ambiance that I love. Over the years I have had their pizza, pizza sub, pizza steak sub, jumbo crab cake sub, meatball parmesan sub, tuna sub, and onion rings. I've never been disappointed. I love that when I call in they remember me and when I pick up they are always pleasant and the service is quick. I hope they stick around because, even though I'm not there often, it wouldn't be a trip to Baltimore without them. read more

I order from here often enough. Cheese pizza is really good. The greek salads contain Chunks of Feta Cheese and is more lettuce than anything else. I ordered this morning and the garlic sauce that i requested was not in the bag. I called the store and it seemed like someone picked up (3x) but didn't say anything. I got ahold of the driver and asked him to deliver the sauce and he said No. Told me to call the store to get a credit on my next order, again no one answered. Smh. read more

My boyfriend & I use to order for A1 all the time and a matter of fact in 2 years we have spent almost $6,000 because we always used them when we have parties at our house. Food was ok nothing special but a couple times recently they messed up on our order and was ever 1 hour 30 minutes late delivering. My boyfriend complained and the Manager got so nasty with him that he went to the store to get a refund and was still rude So we haven't ordered from there in over 6 months so I decided to call today and order and they told me that we are on a refusal list and they are refusing us service because .. what your refusing us service because your pizza has staples in it and my mom almost ate them WOW I wouldn't EVER order from there ever. Worst customer service and the owner should be embarrassed and know I also called the health inspector on them. read more

I was a little disappointed with our order. This was the second time we ordered from here. The first time it was great, the food was hot and the cheesesteak sub was over flowing with meat. The second time not so much. The fries were cold and lifeless, the cheesesteak had hardly any meat and it was tasteless. I wish it was more consistent so we can order more often. Ordered delivery today (it was raining and I gave the delivery guy a little extra since I didn't have to drive in the rain). The chicken gyro in a pita was good but not great. It had a bit too much tzaztiki sauce (I'll ask for that on the side next time) and no red onions. Which adds a nice bite to contrast the creaminess. Boardwalk style fries were good (though not authentic boardwalk) and came sprinkled with a nice amount of old bay. They even included a side of vinegar without me asking for it. Even though it was red wine vinegar, I give them a "A" for effort. The chicken quesadillas weren't. They are taquitos. And they remind me of a product that you can easily find in the grocery store. Not horrible, but I wouldn't order them again. Bf didn't care for them at all. The chicken Caesar salad was my favorite. The romaine was fresh and crisp. The croutons were tasty and actually tasted homemade. Nice amount of real grated Parmesan without being too much. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. They sent two packets of Kens Caesar dressing along with my salad. Which worked great since I couldn't eat all of that in one sitting (it's a huge amount) and now I have two meals for the price of one. I'd definitely order from here again, food was decent and prices are good. Omg, they took my order although they were closed. I asked for fresh hot fries those things were sitting in the basket all night, hard and full of grease I have pictures. The pizza boxes was soaked with grease, I mean saturated. I even tipped well! I called as soon as the guy left they wouldn't answer the phone, they knew what they did. $36 for two greasy pizzas and two large fries. They don't care. Me and my chick always order Rubens they are pretty damn good. Today we ordered again thru GrubHub and they seem to be running late. We called the restaurant and the manager told us that she apologized for the late delivery , and went on to say that the driver had just come back and would be dispatched immediately, she offered her apologies once more and offered us a free drink for the inconvenience. FIRST TIME I ORDERED: Problem #1: They gave me a beef gyro instead of the chicken gyro that I ordered. SECOND TIME I ORDERED: Problem #1: They claim to have boardwalk fries that are ocean city style, but the fries are just their same regular fries with old bay seasoning. Problem #2: I found a black strand of hair on their fries which I bit into, it was disgusting. Problem #3: They gave me the wrong order. I ordered a steak and cheese, but they gave me bacon ranch fries. I called back and they brought me the steak and cheese, but they said I have to give back the bacon ranch fries which I should receive for free, because it was a mistake on their part. Problem #4: Steak and cheese had no cheese. Further comments: Customer service over the phone seemed horrible both times I ordered. Good thing is that they gave me a free soda can with my delivery (only if you ask). They give you a lot of meat with your order, good or bad depending on preference. For a county sub sub place, their chicken cheese steak is one of the best I've had. It's just greasy enough and well seasoned. The bread is never over toasted and the portion of meat is perfect. I never order anything else here lol because the chicken cheese steak is that good! And the fast delivery is a definite plus! read more

This review is actually for the Yummy Grille, which either operates out of the same location or is just a separate menu. The chicken shawarma is great, extremely flavorful and tender. The hummus they include with every platter is fantastic as well, garlicky with a creamy texture. Unfortunately, we specifically ordered from them because my wife wanted a vegetarian meal and their falafels were terrible. It may have just been a bad batch, as we decided the off-putting flavor was due to them being fried in old or burnt oil but they were entirely inedible. We'll remember the Yummy Grille in the future, but we may just stick to the meat dishes. read more

I always come here for a chicken cheesesteak and am never let down. You get a lot of food for the price of the sandwich. The meat is cooked well and the veggies taste fresh. My only complaint is that they don't drain the grease off the meat before they put it on the bun, so by the time I get to the second half, my bread is soggy. All in all a good sub. First off, even though it says Baltimore in the address, this is in Arbutus. It's definitely a neighborhood kind of place - just the way I like it! They've got a killer deal for a pizza and some wings for under $25. Wings are bigger than at Buffalo Wild Wings and I really like the pizza. Stopped ordering the Gyros and fish subs since they pretty much have no substance to them i.e. the Gyro has about one slice of meat (like a skinny minute steak). The fish is nothing but batter. Maybe management has changed or employees are different but food and customer service has been atrocious. Tonight, I called in because I received soggy chicken nuggets in wing sauce when I thought I had paid $10 for the 10 wings I usually order. I realized that I had pressed a wrong button on the GrubHub app, but the man who answered the phone was very rude and mean, when all I wanted to do was make a corrected order for wings. He was condescending and insulting. He called me names like "sweetie" and "dear," but not in a nice way. "No sweetie, we know the difference between bone-in and bone-out." "No dear, you need to learn that there are boneless wings and you should learn how to use the app and press the correct buttons." It was crazy, because I wasn't being rude, just trying to reorder and he talked to me like I was a stupid child. I was so disgusted in being spoken to that way, so I decided to order from somewhere else, which is what I will continue to do when our family needs delivery.
