Ran over a piece of metal after a storm which broke the connect pipe between my catalytic converter and my muffler. It sounded like when someone stole my catalytic converter. Worst $900 spent on a muffler job. I wanted my car to sound louder so they suggested to put a borla pac so I decided to go with it. My car sounds the same and the welding was horrible and unfinished, I wish I could've taking pictures of the welding before I pointed it out and have them finished it. I was going to do my truck and my son's car but after the final results with my car, no way I'm going back or refer them to a friend or anybody. I suggest you do your research on any establishment before going forward with any modifications to your car. It sounds like I'm mad......I am!! He had me put half down as a deposit to order the parts, which only took 2 days to come in, then I dropped off my car a few days later at my request. The owner said that it was usually the front cat that was the issue, but let me make the final decision on service without any pressure. This has to be the nicest repair shop in Sacramento! The owner is just the kindest and most helpful person. My husband and I broke down and ended up near his business. It wasn't a muffler issue, but we were 3 hours away from home and really didn't know what to do. We went in his shop to ask where we should go; he and his son came out to take a look. They saw it needed a new radiator hose, so he ended up having one delivered for us and then he installed it! We are senior citizens and could not believe how kind he was. Been a long time coming and finally, got it done! I had previously contacted A-1 because I read reviews from different muffler shops everywhere and I decided to call and give them a shot at earning my business. Well, they did (in a major way) and I'm glad I brought it here to get my exhaust system done. Everyone else either didn't give me the time of day or they wanted to sell me their products (only) at an outrageous price quote. The owner is absolutely cool and the tech (white guy) is very good at what he does and professional. Btw, I don't know the other guy, but their were 2 techs doing the install and they're great! I went in a few months ago in 2016 to get a quote, I told him that I'd be providing the mufflers and I just needed them installed. He said, "Absolutely, whatever you want, it's your vehicle and you're gonna be driving it so you have to be satisfied!" That in itself was what earned my business from that point on! So finally today (4/25/17) I brought it in and they looked very busy, but he took me in right away and began to do the install (even honored his quote from before) and even installed a better chrome tip than what I expected. He allowed me to take before and after pics and included me as to how I liked what it was looking like during installation. These guys are hands down the BEST muffler shop in the Sacramento area. Went to a well known shop over on Florin Rd (yeah that one) before coming here and they just brushed me off (guess my money wasn't good enough for them) by offering me a high quote and their products only. So happy with how it sounds and definitely worth the money, I will absolutely recommend them to anyone I know for exhaust work. I needed to get a comprehensive diagnostic on my catalytic converters and a likely replacement...so my best friend recommended A1 Muffler, and they were consistent with his recommendation! They even made room for my vehicle in their shop a minute before closing up for the day--even though I inconvenienced their closing down procedures for the day. They communicated proactively and clearly with me and my other mechanic. They got the and job done well and quickly...and for a better price than other shops I had called. Their location is NOT very good, but is basically the only negative thing. It's a great team and excellent service! My pickup runs well again with no more check-engine light! read more

Its rare that I can be so motivated about recommending an automobile service shop. I've taken my old car to A-1 twice with unrelated muffler issues, and both times I've come away completely satisfied. Its not just about the people who are nice and the service which is great. Its about the fact I had an exhaust noise which sounded so bad my ears were ringing while driving, and only having to have a few bolts replaced which fell off. There are so many shops out there which would take full advantage of the appearance of a much larger problem to justify a large repair bill... but these folks are honest, fast and have excellent workmanship. Honest man, he gave us a couple options since we had brought in our own catalytic converter and a muffler off a different car. He gave us a good deal, it saved us money in the end. We had brought in a muffler pulled from another car and from experience from a few shops back home knew it could be done, they didn't want to do it probably because it would require more work and what not, hence the 4 star review. Almost perfect... We waited it out, it took an hour, maybe less. We watched the whole process and the welder did a good job, he was smoking on the job in the area which didn't seem safe to me. After moving my mom into memory care, her 2005 Toyota Rav4, was stolen from her garage when people broke into her house. The police recovered the vehicle, and the rear cat had been stolen. Additionally, there was a check engine light on. Since my mom didn't drive, and since her car was in the garage, she did not have insurance. After everything I'd been dealing with, I really just needed to catch a break since I'd been paying everything out of pocket. I picked this place because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, I can't leave a good review. I went into the shop around 2pm, and told the gentlemen everything. He looked under the car and said the rear cat needed to be replaced, which he already had in stock. He also said he could finish it by end of day. I received a call no more than 2 hours later and the car was done. I was charged a total of $1170 ($800 for the part, $300 for the labor, and $70 for sales tax). Given the job was completed in two hours, that would have their labor rate at $150 an hour. Today, I went to get the car smog checked at a different place, and the guy said that the check engine light (which he scanned without me asking, as is usually the case) was sending codes for the cat. I explained that I was just at a shop that replaced it. He said they replaced the rear cat, but the code was for the front cat. He said most reputable muffler shops would scan for codes, especially in an instance when the cat had been stolen and the check engine light was on. He also said he would've replaced the rear cat for $800 (he did not how much I paid), confirming what I had expected, that A-1 had overcharged me. I just called A1 to see if they checked for codes on the front cat when they had the car, and I was told, "I don't check for codes unless someone asks me to. If a car is brought in because a cat was stolen, I just replace the cat, nothing else." To me, this seems like a response from a shop that doesn't specialize in muffler work. Call me the jerk here for assuming a muffler shop wouldn't send me out the door, without making sure my exhaust system was good to go - especially after paying $1170. All they needed to do was check the codes, and update me, so that I could have made an informed decision about doing the work or not BEFORE replacing the cat. My advice to you if you go here is: ask for their hourly rate up front, do your research on parts costs, and no matter what, ask them to read the code for the check engine light if it's on - because they won't do it unless you specifically ask them. read more
