A1 Dependable Electric went truly above and beyond in their service call to the extent that I wanted to keep Mr. Wingert around to fix everything in my house. My electrical issue became a blessing in disguise as I finally find my new "go to" electrician. My girlfriend and I bought a brownstone condo in Back Bay, Boston last year because I loved the history of the neighborhood... unfortunately, historic houses come with historic electrical systems. Our outlets would constantly trip and others never worked at all. I wanted to call electricians in the past but I would read reviews and get analysis paralysis and fear working with someone dishonest or in over their head. So I managed with being my own destroy-it-yourself YouTube electrician until tonight when several breakers completely died. That's when we called A1 Dependable Electric. We reached out to Mr. Wingert at 7:30pm and he arrived with his coworker within an hour. Right off the bat, he was extremely personable and made us feel at ease. He diagnosed the problem in minutes and gave an upfront fair quote for the work that would need to be done. He walked us through everything he was doing and returned quickly when the task required some additional specialty parts that he had to run out for. In addition to the work he quoted, he also fixed a broken GFCI outlet, unclogged our disposal, and fixed the panel to the breaker which was previously painted shut and broken. The guy was a fixing machine and everything he touched got better in some way. It was just awesome to watch someone who truly knew what they were doing put the same care into your home that you would put yourself. Do NOT hire this robber. Even if you ask for an estimate of a balloark figure he refuses to give one claiming that he may face "unknown problems". All he had to do was to replace 3 working legal smoke and carbon dioxide combined brand new alarms (Kidde) that I bought from Home Depot before i requested an inspection from the fire department before I sold my house. He refused to install what I bought and insisted on installing a cheaper brand of his own. It took him less than an hour as all wiring was working and in perfect condition. I asked him to give his business address that he refused but showed me his Electrician license. and he asked if I can pay cash to which I agreed. Knowing that I am an old feeble widow living alone he took the maximum advantage and gave me a bill for over $3000.00 for a job that any handy man could have done within an hour but the realtor needed the alarms changed by a licensed electrician. When I questioned about the bill he asked for my check book grabbed it and wrote the amount by himself. Could not bargain because he refused to accept a lesser amount and he remained at my house threatening until I signed the full amount. Do NOT hire him he will start with "sweet talk" and he calls himself " Richie" but that may be an alias. First of all I got quotes from tons of contractors in my area. ALL OF THEM HAD OVER INFLATED PRICES! THEY ALL WANTED TO STUFF THEIR POCKETS. A-1 then came out they upgraded my electrical panel, my invoice was DETAILED, AND WAS 1/3 of the over INHALER price. The job was done to current CODE and I might just say, was done perfectly. When I hear that someone paid 500 bucks and got ripped off... I could just rely and say, yup... Go to someone else and pay much MUCH more and see what you get out here. I'm glad I called A-1 !!! My father elderly father hired this company for an electrical issue. A service was provided for a cost of $585. It as brought to my attention the next day that the electrical issue would have been resolved if the reset button was pushed on a particular outlet. The outlet with the reset button was hidden behind a cabinet in the garage and not being used. I spoke to Richard, the owner, the next day about the reset button and he confirmed that the issue could have been resolved by pressing the reset button once the outlet was located. I asked if he explained this option to my father before conducting another service. Richard claimed that he did, but thought that my father did not know what he was saying. He then said to me "I think he has a little Alzheimer's." I am appalled that he would make an accusation regarding my father's mental functioning to validate what he did. He took advantage of my father, who is a senior citizen on a fixed income, by charging him for a service that was not needed. read more

My 84 yr old mother called A-1 because a breaker wouldn't reset and she could smell burning. Richie came the next day and charged $1885 to replace a few breakers and an outlet. Invoice is chicken scratch and he refused to give an itemized list for work done. Richie argues he quoted the work amount over the phone. My mother agreed because she was worried her house would burn down otherwise . An ethical electrician would adjust the quote to work provided. He took advantage of the elderly. I had a power surge that caused my house to behave like it was possessed. I called A-1 and within 90 minutes Richie was at my house, diagnosing the issue, and informing me what I could not figure out myself. He quickly fixed the problem and even threw in a pending improvement having me just cover the extra parts necessary. He explained the issue to me and helped with tips on how to file the claim with insurance. I could not be more pleased with Richie's professionalism, knowledge, attitude, and helpfulness. While it was not CHEAP, professional services rarely are, and the speed at which the problem was fully fixed impressed me. read more

my poor elderly mother is still distraught and sick over the fact that this man changed 3 fire detectors in her home and he claimed one of them had a short in the wiring. They were their 1 hour and charged her $785. This is horrendous! He said the alarms his cost were $85 each 10 year warranty...I asked if his hourly rate was $530!!! This was an amazing experience. Switch caused power outage. Called Richard Wingert at 1pm on a Friday, he was at my house at 2pm. Diagnosed the problem, and installed a new switch. Then drove an hour to get a new circuit breaker, came back and installed it at 5:30. Fast, courteous, friendly service. He is now my forever electrician. You can't go wrong withA-1! read more

I had Richard card from years ago. I should throw it away. The switch on my pool filter was broken. he put a wire on the pump and a switch on the which had nothing to do withe switch for the filter. He said he'd put covers on the two electric out never did it but told me to buy some. Cost for this $588.00 rip off also to hands form me. A-1 Dependable Electric is the go to electrical service company in the Boston area. Mr. Wingert, Master Electrician, went above and beyond in my case, and was extremely professional and reasonably priced. I needed a new 220 plug installed to accommodate my new electric stove. Mr. Wingert discovered that my main breaker in my panel was disfunctional and I ok'd the job to upgrade the house fully to 100 amp service to accommodate future electrical needs. The job was done exactly as explained and Mr. Wingert even installed the electric cord into the back of my new stove!! Should be zero stars. This guy took advantage of a 77 year old, ripping out the breaker box and replacing all the breakers and upgrading the capacity of the box. It was no signs of any parking or rusting or anything else in the box. There were some outlets that were not working, and rather than just troubleshoot and replace the breaker in question, he pulled everything out and replaced it with everything brand new. Wanted almost $2000 for what should have been a service call and a breaker replacement. When confronted over the phone he dropped the price down to $800. I had him leave everything on the site that he replaced and all of the breakers look like brand new. After all of this he didn't even label the breakers. read more
