Great service. We have been using A-1 for almost 20 years now. The drivers are always nice. I only had an issue with one driver and I don't even think he works for the company anymore. I decided to give A1 another chance. The driver I had on 1/13 had to wait one day for her fare because Bank of America declined my debit card. The driver was dirty and weird anyway: I left an envelope between my front and storm doors with the fare in CASH the next day. She picked it up, but didn't leave a receipt. Jim the night manager is rude, obnoxious and argumentative. I had trouble with him on 102/20. When I called today 1/30/21 he told me the weird driver said I never paid her and couldn't get a taxi until I paid the weird driver. When I told him I paid her in CASH on 1/14, he didn't believe me. STAY AWAY from A1 Taxi They're unprofessional and rude. Jim is the WORST and Naomi isn't any better. The taxis are dirty and reek of cigarette smoke. read more

I honestly thought we had no cab service in Elgin anymore. I called Uber and after being told on way, then cancelled twice, daughter told me to call A1. I called. Driver was here in less than 5 minutes. Took a real route, not winding around to jack meter. Driver was very nice. It cost me only a buck less than UBER - BUT THIS DRIVER KNEW HOW TO GET TO MY HOUSE. Uber has cancelled my ride on 2 other occasions and still charged me where I had to fight it. THIS OLD DOG is back to taking A1 because they were definitely fast, reliable AND REASONABLE. read more

I called and asked for a cab very politely and as soon as I did I was given a long sigh and so much attitude that followed, like I was being an inconvenience for calling, even though this is literally the whole point of a cab service. I was then told they don't go to my location even though I've called a cab here before multiple times, then hung up on me. I've never had anyone give me that much tone and lowsy customer service at any company I've ever spoken to. I was at a light ready to turn left when the light changed to yellow. As I was waiting to make sure the oncoming traffic stops, the A-1 cab driver, whose behind me, started to honk his horn and pulls up inches behind me. This distraction prevented me from making the decision of a safe left turn and I found myself in the middle of the intersection blocking the crossing traffic whose light was now hard green. I looked at my rear view mirror and saw the cab driver laughing and clapping his hands which then in turn I, my bad, released verbal jesters. My guess is that the driver thought I was overly cautious and he wanted to make sure he was going to be able to make his left turn. I wouldn't want this guy driving me round town. I reported the incident to A-1 dispatch and they were understanding and courteous. read more

Guy picked me up from a business 5 miles from my house, takes the long way and charges me $40 and then says he can't except a credit card! Drives me to an ATM and holds my ID captive until I pay him in cash. I pulled out $20 from the ATM and already had $10 in cash, he is saying I owe him $40. I went on to try and reason with him explaining its not right that your going to charge me fair to drive to the ATM because YOU refuse to take my credit card. That is a inconvenience to me the costumer, talk about pouring salt into a wound! He took my $30 in cash and never returned my ID! I got on the phone with customer service and that was a horrible experience of holding for almost an hour trying to track down the driver. Finally he returns to my home with my ID demanding $40 ! Are you flipping kidding me I already gave you $30 but didn't have a receipt to prove it, he had me right were he wanted me so rather than argue with a 300 lb black man I gave him the cash and filed a police report. First they said 15 minutes then they said 15 minutes again and then they said 8 minutes then I called back and they went back to 15 minutes... I promise I'm downloading uber today. I don't ever wanna be in the position to have to take a cab again. I called bc my cat battery died and I didn't want to be late for work. They were quick but no1 asked if I wanted to pay cash or credit and bc I had always paid credit before I didn't know I needed to make a special request. The drive was rude and a a bad drive didn't use his signals. Was eating and swerving. Seen I was on thw phone with road side assistance I even said I was and he turned the music up. By far the the worst cab I have ever been in. Would give it a zero stars if that had been an option. The cab stunk from cigarette smoke (bad), almost couldn't breath in the cab. The cab was unmarked and falling apart. It had 300000 miles on it and sounded like it was going to fall apart. The cab to the airport was the worst but the cab picking me up was just as bad smell wise but in a little better mechanical condition. It was an old Crown Vic and also had 300000 miles on it. Both drivers were nice enough but were also poorly dressed, I mean holes in there coats and pants, etc. Felt like grabbing a cab in a 3rd world company. Can't picture how either of these cabs could actually be licensed anywhere. A year ago I used A-1 and had a good driver, nice company owned car with clear markings and company paint and a 5 star service. That's why I used them again. In looking at other reviews, I can see how A-1 either has a 5 or a 1 and nothing in between. On my first dispatch contact I had a very nice, professional, lady dispatcher. On my second contact I must have gotten the guy everyone else is complaining about. He was curt, rude and unprofessional. Amazing they get any repeat customers. Only got me twice because of one nice cab a year ago. Apparently the nice cabs are few and far between. read more

I am usually pleased with their taxi service but the last time I used their service, I called 30 minutes ahead of time. They let me know someone was on their way. They didn't arrive until an hour later making me late to work. If I would have known they didn't have anyone available or if was going to be a long wait I would have called another company. read more

Usually I like to Yelp good experiences but this place has me heated. If you want a crappy driver that acts like he's driving in the heart of Chicago, steer clear of this joint. I was driving down my street, a residencial street where the speed limit is 25, and some douche cab driver from A-1 thought it would be really cute to tail me, swerve and blink his brights because I was going just under 25 BECAUSE MY DRIVEWAY WAS COMING UP. HEY ASSHOLE, I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND HIT THE DAMN TREE. SLOW DOWN.. You're driving a goofy looking Prius anyway, you don't want to rear-end someone and smash that thing to pieces, you may not make it out alive. If all the A-1 cabbies drive this way, you're better off taking a chance with an Uber. read more

Worst cab dispatch I've ever dealt with. I ordered a cab at 8pm for a 10pm pickup from a train station. When I arrived at the station at 10pm the cab was not there. At 10:05 I called to verify, and they informed me that the cab was on its way. Ok, no big deal, except it is 6 degrees outside and now I'm standing in a parking lot completely alone. I stood outside freezing and waiting for over 40 minutes.. until an Uber came and got me. (Which took 7minutes after placing the order) As we were leaving the station, I saw the cab arriving.. at 10:45! Are you kidding me? Why tell your customers that you can have someone there at 10, when you clearly cannot. A1 is completely unreliable, this is not the first time this has happened to me. They have made me late for work in the past as well. I do not recommend A1 cab. read more

I am fairly new to public transit. Called A-1 and the dispatch person was extremely rude and unhelpful. I felt I was being rushed and the dispatch person hung up the phone before I told him what time I needed my taxi to arrive. When I called backache dispatch person told me it's not his fault. At this point I asked to speak to his manager I felt he was being extremely rude he explained to me he was the manager I told him I would pursue to report my complications with A-1. Moved 2 months ago back to Elgin now started using them even knowing there history as I have had use them before. In ELGIN There are not any decent taxi Companies so a crapshoot it is.But this company has changed and I use them 2-3 times a day haven't had much of a problem getting them here in 15 minutes. I booked a cab from this company for a pick-up the next morning. Then, I noticed the bad reviews and called back 5 minutes later to cancel. The dispatcher said ' no problem' and cancelled the reservation. The next morning, the guy showed up anyway, I ended up with him and another taxi in my driveway. I explained that I had cancelled his reservation, and the driver argued with me. Claimed that he just go the call 30 minutes earlier (a lie). Then, rather than back out of my drive, he insisted on moving forward and running over a hose, swearing at me as he drove away. Never had such a rude experience in the burbs. Even though they have done this 50 times before. THEN GOT LIPPY!!!!! You know what? 303 is much better. Just used A1 because I liked the drivers. Sorry Vicky and Jim. Booked a reservation for 6/20 at 9:15pm for a pick up from O'hare. Worst service ever. Don't waste your time and effort with these guys. I would give this company zero stars if I could. Cab 13 reeked of cigarette smoke and the driver was a horrible driver. He was obnoxiously honking at other people driving by and it didn't even look like they were getting remotely close to us. The worst part is that the address I needed to be dropped off at is considered Elgin, but the driver had the audacity to argue with me that the map/directions were wrong and that my destination was considered South Elgin. He was raising his voice to me and you never do that to a customer. I had him call dispatch because I told him I had it confirmed two different ways, via email and phone that my fare was for an Elgin address. This driver chose to argue with dispatch too saying their information was wrong, that my destination is clearly South Elgin. I could hear the dispatcher telling him "No, I just googled it and it says it's considered Elgin. She should be charged what she was quoted." In the end, the dispatcher got fed up with my driver and said he had to go and to figure out what to do. I was charged $50 for my ride, instead of $44. I gave up fighting for the fare I was quoted and paid the $50. The driver was rude and very disrespectful. I chose this company because of its low rates and its proximity to my destination. I am appalled at the lack of customer service that I experienced. I am especially frustrated that dispatch didn't continue to fight for my rights and my repeat business. I am very disappointed and frustrated. This company has lost my business for my return trip to O'hare, as well as any future taxi needs. read more

I tried this service two times. The first time the wait was 20 minutes. The cab driver lacked professionalism in every way. He ranted and raved about "ObamaCare", guns, the 2nd amendment, Maya Angelou on the radio... just a completely discombobulated rant about only-the-cosmos-knows-what! The car was dirty, and broken. The second time I tried to give them business, dispatch was rude, argumentative, and told me I would wait about 30 minutes for a car to pick me up from Arlington Heights. I explained I was a female and it was late at night that is why I am calling 15 minutes before I arrive at the station so I don't have to wait at a closed station at night. I was told 30 minutes. I called a cab firm my company uses ALL STAR.. and got a car within 10 minutes. I called to cancel the A1 cab, and never called back. I have had great service with All Star Cab firm. 847-658-1555.
