I've only eaten at 9er's once.... But that visit was just 1 of 5 attempts. We have stopped in for lunch or dinner on various days and they were unexpectedly closed, usually with a note on the door. I understand staffing issues are hard to control, but FOUR different times Ive walked away disappointed from your front door? I didn't review 9ers on my first visit, because it wasn't a very good experience. Lots of people still recommend them and they've been open a long time, so I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Yesterday was going to be another try. google said they were open until 8, on Sundays, and I think we pulled in around 5:30 (?). I even checked Facebook to see if there was a notice. On my one successful visit, we were immediately disappointed because there was yet another menu change (I was dining with coworkers who visit often and specifically wanted something in the lunch menu. It was noon but they were only offering the brunch menu). I got the Breakfast Quesadillas. They were good- hollandaise had a good flavor and everything was cooked nicely. Service was inattentive and we waited a long time for everything. No refills, unfriendly attitudes. Lots of chatter and yelling from the staff in the back- I thought it was unprofessional to hear them hollering at each other and using casual language in front of guests. Awesome pulled pork and a great staff After following this place on facebook for months I finally had the opportunity to give it a try. Since they always advertise fun drinks I made sure to try one of their signature cocktails. I had the Mac attack, basically vodka and lemonade. It came with a cute heart straw. For dinner I tried the pulled pork combo with a side salad and corn salad. The pulled pork was awesome. The staff did a great job of checking on our table and food came out quickly. This spot is such a unique gem. It's part bbq joint, part diner, family-friendly and also has trendy cocktails and weekly specials/events. I came for the seasonal (Halloween) drink flights. There were several with different themes (with dry ice). The food was good despite the service being slow due to it being a busy day. I got the patty melt that was cooked perfectly with tons of flavor. My husband got a bbq platter that was also flavorful. The drink flights were balanced and colorful and unique and fun. My fiancé and I were doing some laundry and I had seen their posts about their holiday drinks and hot chocolate flight, so my fiancé suggested a spontaneous dinner while we waited for our laundry. We walked in and it appeared quite busy, not overly so but a solid crowd. We were seated quickly and our server, Cierra came over rather quickly with waters. She took our drink order and our appetizer order. The appetizer and hot chocolate flight came out quickly. The hot chocolate flight came with 4 flavors: Original, French Toast, Gingerbread & Peppermint. My fiancé and I both enjoyed the original and gingerbread, but the French toast and peppermint left quite a bit to be desired as they were both watery and had minimal flavor. We got the App Sampler which came with garlic cheese curds, fried pickle chips, loaded fries and a giant pretzel. The cheese curds were good, my fiancé enjoyed the fries, but neither of us really touched the pickles. They were not very crispy and on the flimsy side. We both very much enjoyed the pretzel, although a cheese sauce of some sort would've been preferred to the beer mustard and ranch. While enjoying the appetizer we finished our Pepsi and water along with the hot chocolate flight, mostly because we were out of drinks. Both my fiancé and I saw our server come near our table, visually acknowledge that we needed drinks and she turned around to get them, or so we thought. She in fact didn't refill any of our drinks and it wasn't until after our meals came out did she come and ask if we needed refills and took the cups. My fiancé got the brisket burger and I got the pulled pork Mac. Unfortunately, both left us feeling underwhelmed. The pork on my dish was good but the Mac and cheese was bland and did not go well with the pork. In fact the only thing I found the Mac and cheese good for was to dip the remainder of our pretzel in the cheese sauce. My fiancés burger was lacking salt and the brisket was more of a hard patty, he took most of it off. He said the fries were luke warm and needed salt. While my fiancé went to handle the laundry I stayed to pay the check. It required more waiting to get the check and when she asked if we needed boxes I informed her that I wouldn't need one as I didn't enjoy my meal, nothing came of my comment so I packed up my fiancés food and put the card on the table with the receipt. Upon looking over the receipt and texting my fiancé to discuss a tip, I read the bottom of the receipt which stated: "A 3.5% Convenience fee has been added to your order. If you pay by cash your total will be..." According to my fiancé a convenience fee is only convenient for the restaurant because they don't want to pay the credit card fee, which according to both of us is ridiculous, especially on top of the high prices (I know, inflation), but it wasn't worth what we spent. Came in at 4:30 with a group of 4. The restaurant was not packed or very busy. We waited to be seated and finally was put on the bar side by a door to outside. After waiting 20 minutes we were brought over food menus, without drink menus and told people need to be able to walk in and out of that door so we might want to sit somewhere else. Server seemed like she didn't not want to serve us. After another 10 minutes of waiting without a drink, or another visit.. we decided to leave. We will take our money elsewhere. Our breakfast eggs were cold when arrived at our table. There was four of us and all of us had cold eggs. Hash brown warm ...not hot.... but good. We think server was new and was slow. Did not like being served eggs on a metal tray. Hearing your fork scratching the metal tray is like listening to chalk scratching a chalk board. Not a pleasant sound when eating. This was a second visit .... not sure we would try again. love that this is a family business and hope review helps them to improve ...not hurt them. Average food, average service, average review. Came in on a Sunday at noon. Nice crowd, was seated shortly after walking in. Wife ordered a tuna melt, I had a paddy melt and we split a Chicago style hot dog. I had asked for mac & cheese with the sandwich, but was told they were sold out. Started with the slop soup, basically goulash. It was luke warm and a bit bland. The tuna melt was a bit too fishy for the wife's taste. She only ate half her sandwich. The Chicago dog was disappointing, but consistent with what I expect outside of Chicago. Dog was boiled, not grilled. Bun was toasted, not steamed. But most disappointing was in lieu of sport peppers, they used jalapenos. The paddy melt was good, and I was surprised to find 2 patties. However, I asked for it to be cooked medium, which came out well done- no red at all. Frankly, I prefer my burgers well done, but question why servers ask how I want it cooked and 9 times out of 10 end up with well done regardless of what I say. The fries were nothing special, but reasonably crisp. A pickle on the side would have been a nice add. Service was fine. Friendly, but not overly fast, though reasonable based on the crowd they had. We should have gotten breakfast. It was just after noon. My husband ordered the perch. About ten minutes later, the waiter came back to tell us that they didn't have any perch and, by the way, haven't had it. Our SIL, ordered wings. Our server was not back for about 30ish mins so at 12:08 I decided I should probably ask just in case she forgot. I've forgotten orders when I worked at restaurants and bars so I get it. We watched tables that came in after us receive their flights. We watched the igloo outside who did not sit until after we ordered get their drinks from the bar. When I asked our server over by the bar she said they were almost ready and the bar was slammed. . Slammed with orders taken after ours. I would have appreciated "hey, I'm so sorry. I'm getting those right now" but she did not even apologize once about it. In total we were at the restaurant for a little over two hours. The food was "ok". The presentation was definitely better than the taste but it's a diner so I wasn't expecting too much. It has potential but after waiting 38 mins for drinks and over an hour for food with kids and no apology or even discounted drinks I would not go back. It's not worth it. When I served food and drinks I definitely wanted to make the customer happy and make sure I didn't forget about them. Here we were forgotten or avoided. Then the manager or owner emailed me with incorrect times she said she saw on her camera. I have time stamped photos and texts from two different phones with the correct times. She blamed me, then lied, THEN made excuses. To top it off she thinks it's normal for people to wait 24 minutes for drinks without a full bar and two bartenders in a small diner. I'm not sure where the customer service was learned but it blew my mind. Here are the photos. I wouldn't make such a stink about this if the email sent to me wasn't a complete lie and excuse and this place was owned and run by people who care about customer's experiences.
