We really enjoyed 99 Hops House and all of our expectations were met or exceeded! I prefer to review a spot on their own merits, not on how they measure up to other establishments. This is a local casino sports bar, not a Vegas casino restaurant or a stand alone sports bar, it's in a small local casino. For that reason, they deserve all 5 stars for service, food and drinks! We ate there twice during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. First visit we had the Bang Bang Shrimp, a burger and the fish and chips. The shrimp are those tiny little popcorn shrimp and the sauce is definitely bang bang! Huge portion, could easily be a meal! The burger is thick, juicy and cooked exactly as ordered with plenty of toppings and a sturdy bun. The fish and chips were good, batter was a little thick but a giant portion of 4 large pieces overcame that obstacle! Plenty of beer to choose from so we had a few different varieties to give them a try! Second visit we had the Patty Melt and Reuben Sandwich, both loaded with meat and cooked perfectly. They were served piping hot with plenty of fries on the side. Service both nights was very friendly and attentive. We were checked on several times and empty plates were cleared right away. They're doing it right here as long as your expectations are for the type of establishment you're eating at! read more

We were seated right away but! We had to wait. I don't know where our server went but I saw her disappear from the door shortly after we were seated. We watched three other groups of guest get seated before anyone noticed that we had neither been greeted or served. The one busy waitress found our server and still we waited for several minutes longer. I don't know what happened Ed, she appeared to be in good health and sound mind but she just wasn't readily available...and when she did show up, she seemed distracted and rushed. Maybe she was having a bad day or some other issues pending, but we were ok in the end. The food was good, tasty, hot and reasonably priced for the servings...well except for them little shrimp they served up. The appetizers: Buffalo chicken dip with chips and garlic Parmesan pita bread, the pita was my favorite part to me. Bang Bang Shrimp with smoky ranch sauce Entree to go: We ordered a sandwich (Rueben) and French fries...what a salty and savory treat. We are taking that back to the room because it's still early and the appetizers were filling but I got a feeling in an hour we'll be hungry again. Better safe than sorry. That's all I'm saying. Drinks: Angry Orchard Cider on tap...who did that, they put AOC on tap...yessss! Tap water=we'll water so ask for the bottled stuff unless you prefer the hardy goodness of cold well water and a Budweiser for the other half. All of this for less than $65. Have not eaten here in a year but will definitely say service and food has improved!!! Our server was amazing, fast, funny, attentive! This is based on food only. If I could give 0 stars for the steak tacos I would. Heck I'd give it negative if possible. First off they were mini tacos, second they weren't hot or even warm, third they weren't on taco tortillas rather a cut up quesadilla/burrito tortilla and lastly there was 5 nibs of steak on them. Mini tacos are fine with me but have a damn taco shell. Casino food is supposed to be decent and plentiful. Take this garbage off the menu. Just another reason why the casino is empty. I got catfished for steak tacos-FML. I will survive....oh and this was National Tortilla Chip Day and I couldn't even enjoy it properly with my tiny terrible tacos. read more

Just ok. That's about the best I can sum up my experience here. We went on a Saturday night around 7:30pm and they were out of at least 2-3 draft choices I initially selected. Also, their draft beer was not as cold or carbonated as it should have been and the waitress was painfully uneducated on the beer selections (choices, flavors, type). At one point we ordered a second round and the waitress brought us a full pint but had us chug the last little bit of our first pint because (according to her) Illinois state law doesn't allow 2 drinks at a time. False. How do I know that's false? My boyfriend owns a brewery/taproom. Regardless, I was really irritated that I had to chug my beer to get another. The food was SUPER mediocre but for some reason by boyfriend liked my smoked chicken pasta more than the crispy chicken wrap he chose for himself (I didn't like either). The service definitely should have been better (read: faster) considering it wasn't crazy busy when we were there. The only reason we chose this place is because of the billboards on the highway saying it was new, however I remember there being a nearly identical bar here about a year or more ago. Not sure if it just has a new name or new owners? Either way, the only other reason my boyfriend and I ended up here for dinner was because the restaurant we originally wanted to go to was full. This was our weekend date night (with our busy schedules it's hard to make time for a dedicated date night out) and I'm really disappointed in this place. I feel like we wasted our money. First time at this casino and after all the gambling stopped here for a bite to eat. It was after 10pm so they had a smaller menu to choose from. But luckily I was looking for a burger and that was an option. They have $10 build your own burgers that come with fries; extra charge for more toppings pretty standard. Worst food ever! I ordered a quesadilla and they asked me if I wanted steak or chicken. The steak was more like what you'd put on a hot beef sandwich. And the cheese seemed to be mozzarella. Two things are making my review so good..... 8$ pitcher of domaine dupage and a great cover band (rod tuffcurls and the bench press). We didn't get any food but it looked pretty good. The server was great and attentive. I wish this bar wasn't so narrow. It's a little hard to have a group to sit and watch the band. I think the stage at Harrahs is easier to sit an enjoy the band. I think the small stage is cute and the sound is great. The rotating large circular booths are pretty cool and the numerous screens are pretty cool if I cared about sports..... The fries are delicious. The nachos were good. They handled my daughter's gluten allergy well. My patty melt was delicious and too big to finish. The salmon my daughter got was bland. But that's the only complaint I have, and the chef gave her a baked potato with her dinner, so even that worked out. I was worried, based on other reviews and was very pleasantly surprised. Although the food is good and they have hundreds of TV's so it's a great place to go to watch the game, everytime I leave I wonder why I went back. The food and drinks are a bit over priced and their "specials" are never anything great. As a matter of fact, the last time I went was because they advertised food and drink specials and great give-aways during the NASCAR race. The great give-aways were a drawing about once an hour. The food "Specials" were actually features. When I emailed the management, their reply was "our specials were menu items we felt our customers would enjoy. On business, I happened to pick the Casino for my hotel of choice. I ate here twice. Both times, the host/hostess didn't see me walk by. First time, I got a Reuben. The sandwich - one of my favorites that I try about anywhere - was pretty good. Rye bread was cut to inch thickness, provided that distinct flavor. The beef was tasty and juicy (could have been larger portion), the Swiss cheese tasted fresh and bold. The sauerkraut seemed as if made in-house. Worst part was the thousand island tasted like ketchup and mayonnaise, unfortunately. Fries were cold. I got my check shortly after, although I wasn't finished. 2nd time, I got the three meat trio pizza. Overly priced for what you get, but the pizza was well done. Pizza sauce is the foundation of how the pizza is to be judged, theirs was flavorful and slightly sweet. Crust was perfect and toppings decent. Overall not a bad spot to grab a bite to eat. This is their second chance before I give a bad review. TERRIBLLY slow service, their coupons are extremely limited, so what's the point. The first food we ordered was the burrito which was straight from the freezer. Then we ordered chips and salsa. Straight from a jar and the server didn't bother telling us we got some of the jar salsa with our freezer burrito. Steak was just so so. This restaurant is one of the worst I have been to. The waitress Dawn is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. She does not tend to her customers, brings out cold food and takes 30 plus minutes to bring out a single beer. We asked for a manager and spoke with a F&B supervisor, who was also very short and rude. I do not recommend eating here. I rather starve than done here again.
