I think the one thing I'm going to miss most about Merced is this 99 Cents Only store. I can't leave the store until I peruse every aisle first! There's always new items every time I come, and it's not your typical "dollar store" items, they have everything from basic household items, fresh fruits and vegetables, tech accessories, and seasonal goods. There are tons, and I mean tons, of brand name items that you'd see at a regular grocery store, (think Febreze, Maybelline, Clorox, Lysol, Kleenex, Campbells, Lee Kum Kee [for all my Asians] etc etc etc) but better because everything's only a buck! During the summer they have fresh fruits like mangos, boxes of strawberries, small watermelons, blueberries, and the other day I saw packaged pico de gallo. I'm the type of person who usually refrains from buying produce or food in general at dollar stores, but I trust this one. I bought all of those items and everything was fresh. I can't even begin to explain how many things they have at this store, you can literally find anything and everything you need. My boyfriend and I were looking to have a small bbq and we went to this store and there was even a section with JUST bbq items. We were able to get charcoal, lighter fluid, and more for less than $5. The store itself is always organized and the workers are friendly. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because the lines can get really long sometimes and there seems to be a shortage of cashiers because there's always only one or two registers open even when there's a long line. read more

The store here has everything that the 99 cent store in Atwater has but let me tell you some shelves were untocked ,it's overfilled with people,lines a mile long the wait to the cash registers are at least 5 to 15 minutes that fills like an hour there were people who were leaving carts and leaving the store ,but the cashier was pleasant to see she was friendly and courteous I wish I knew her name cause I would give her five stars .To end this do not go to this store unless you want to wait for hours the 99 cent store in Atwater is much better not crowded at all , I am disapoited in my store they need to get more workers never never again will I go there I will now for now go to Atwater !! read more

This place is nice and clean. You can find almost anything in here for 99 cents. The store has its items organized and the employees are helpful whenever asked something. I enjoy visiting this place because some of the cashiers are very friendly and helpful. It simply depends but otherwise it's a good store to visit. Some of the tags on the items must be changed so that the correct price is listed. Be aware not everything is 99 cent so make sure to pay attention to the price but otherwise most the items are at that price. However I am not a fan of the long lines since they lack cashiers and that makes things slow down. Some of them take up to 10 minutes until another line is opened so just keep that in mind. read more

Love the 99 Cents Only store for candies, snacks and gift wrap items. A lot of times I can find low sodium sodium sunflower seeds for just 99 cents, too! Shop early for seasonal items, you can find some really great bargains. read more

Love love love 99 cent store,even though less and less things 99 cents. Has great produce and refrigerated food. The main reason so many stars is because the cashiers are nice. ( there is a dark haired short hispanic manager that i have heard being very mean to them) but they remain nice to customers. They remember you and speak while ringing up stuff. One of the nicest is Aurora. She is always so nice asking me and everyone if we are doing ok? How has your day been? Then saying take care sweetie. Makes you feel special. I was just at the 99 cent store and the cashiers are very RUDE. Mind you its 11:30am the store is very full the cashier tells I'm closed! I had been in line longer than 10 minutes and l said there's no sign showing your closed. She yells it's been closed for five minutes. There is no sense for rudeness. it sucks i wanted to use the bathroom and i was a handicap and the say that it is closed which is illegal and is very overrated i wish i could give a zero and that the bathroom is always open for employees and never open for customers very selfish and the employees are really mean and there is a law where one bathroom has to be open for 24 hours i recommend not coming read more

Came here in search of a cork screw (I have so many already and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on ANOTHER one) while staying over in Merced for business. Found the cork screw (score!) and picked up a few other 99-cent impulse items, including some Crystal Geyser sparkling water and some "Simpsons" fruit snacks. Now, the sparkling water was just fine. But the fruit snacks... the fruit snacks were just nasty. I hastily opened one of the fun-sized packs of fruity goodness and they were all crusty and white. Definitely WAY past their sell-by date. =( And I was really excited about these fruit snacks. Out of curiosity (and perhaps sheer stupidity) I even tried a couple. I didn't get sick, but these babies should not have been on the shelves. Can't really blame the 99 Cent brand. I'm the one who bought them. And it was only a dollar, so... BTW, the cork screw still works. So two stars for that. Though I'm not entirely confident it will endure more than a few more bottles of wine. read more

Got a can of Maxwell House instant coffee for $1 (steal). Also go here for the occasional napkins, tissues, or school supplies just to save a bit of money. I wouldn't go here for food containers or dishware because they may not be safe. read more

The store itself was large and had a large selection. I always get my padded shipping envelopes from the 99 cent store. I was in town and decided to try this store. I will never go back, especially not alone! I went around noon on a Wednesday and there was only two cash registers open and each one had a line of about 10 people each. It took me about 30 min just to get my envelopes which typically takes no more than 5 min. read more

This store has everything you could possibly need from school supplies to household cleaners to produce. The quality of most of their goods are decent, but some items are best bought elsewhere. If you shop here and just use common sense in what you purchase, you can save yourself tons of money versus other stores and still acquire quality goods. I think that this is a great store for many canned and boxed items and also for holiday decorations and favors, but things like electronics(headphones/USB devices) should be bought from other stores. read more

Went to this store a couple of times when I visited family in Merced. The store is clean compared to other locations I've been to and seems to have better inventory of products (the worse one was in Vegas). The grocery section is pretty good and people that work there seem friendlier. I like coming to this store because everything is organized. I can stock up on liquid soap, air fresheners, frozen dinners, kitchen and office supplies, etc. and not worry about over spending. Even the people that shop there seem friendly. Everytime I go, I feel a good vibe. There's always a person or two smiling & saying "hi" or "good day" to me which is something I'm not used to in San Jose. I was utterly harssassed at this store, I was told I stole an item, they had me emptied out my pockets infront of the whole store. Once I did and proved I had nothing I still had to be questioned by cops. This was all infront of my grandfather. I called there coraprate number and I still got no help.
