This is a top spot in all of NYC. Amazing vibes. It's sooo unique. You can walk thru the entire building. And the coffee is obviously amazing.

Real cute cafe. I found myself in Harlem and googled Black owned cafes near me and this gem popped up. At first I thought I was lost because I opened the door and saw a plant/ garden shop. One of the workers saw how confused I was and let me know I was in the right spot and that the cafe was further inside. Comes to find out this cafe is in fact located inside the Mushtari Hardware and Garden Store. As a plant lover, the plant shop/cafe vibe really works. It's unique and a really cute spot to work from elsewhere since they have free wi-fi. It wasn't packed and the music was good. I was able to chat with one of the co-owners, Hamza, who was very friendly and gave me recommendations. I opted for the hot hibiscus tea which was delicious. It was mixed with other herbs and spices that was perfect for a rainy day. I also got the hash brown and egg burrito which was very filling. They also have coffee and an assortment of other pastries. If I'm in the area I'd definitely stop back. I might even pick up a plant or two ;)

9 Tails is a hidden gem. You walk through what feels like a tropical jungle to find an unassuming counter. The coffee (black, drip) is excellent. A lovely cup of chocolatey joe that will carry you through the day. While we were there, they brought us some fresh, warm croissant twists that were just heavenly. I will definitely be back and maybe I'll walk out with a plant or two next time!

Delicious honey oat latte, pricey at $5 but it seems like coffee is this expensive everywhere these days. There is NO wifi despite what Yelp says... It is a small coffee shop inside a store that sells potted plants, really cute. Not the most comfortable seating, but nice music and very clean.

One of my favorite cafes that I've been to. Truly amazing ambiance and relaxing environment as well as the extremely friendly staff. Thank you Yusuf for always making my very specific coffee order. All their baked goods / sandwiches are beyond delicious. Clean cafe with a perfect menu. One block from home so I take all my guests there for breakfast or afternoon coffee break. Never disappoints, always consistent which in my opinion is the best compliment an establishment can receive.

Among the most interesting coffee shops I've been to and there's been many that are quite so but this is coffee gonzo. It has such an unusual location. 9 Tails is located inside a hardware store. For real. The expectation is the coffee would taste like grass or something like that but that would be wrong. Coming here was another case of getting off the subway at some random stop and checking out cafes around it. It was a bit of a walk from the 125th Street station and it was super confusing finding it at first because we thought it couldn't be the correct place. The address is Mushtari Hardware, a hardware store. Only did we know it was the correct place after we read the sandwich board. This said something about coffee and to go that way. Getting to here is by two options. The hardware store has a main entrance on 125th and the back entrance is on 126th, which is the address listed here and on the business website. On 125th you enter on the main floor, while on 126th you enter in the basement. The basement is where you'll find the coffee shop. It has a small counter. This is purely for takeout. A drip coffee is one of the choices. It's $3 for a small. The coffee tasted fresh and not like it's been there a long time. It wouldn't be unexpected with it being so hard to find. They also have some non dairy milks like oat. Get some breakfast burritos. Many locally made and one is vegan. Each of us got a Vegan Breakfast Chorizo Burrito. It's $7 and while it's not big it packs in a lot. This has bell peppers, caramelized onions, Impossible chorizo, pickled daikon, and refried pinto beans and it's all vegan. Good burrito. They also have some croissants and muffins and a few are vegan so pretty good plant based choices and healthier options. Amazing this is in a hardware store but it yes it's possible to pick up a hose in the same place as coffee. It's better getting here early. They quickly run out of pastries.

I came here and I must say it was quite interesting. The inside of it is quite beautiful and peaceful. I had the iced drink and I remember it was quite strong. I am not sure what I ordered but I do remember the cookie. We had the chocolate cookie and wow that cookie was quite tasty. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

I happened upon this spot while I was in the neighborhood for work! Love it. Nice and chill, great vibe. Really adorable place with awesome staff ! I told them I hadn't been before and they gave me recommendations, I got the matcha latte with honey. They even offered to make me a different free drink if I didn't like it, but it was delicious, perfect balance of sweet honey and bitter green tea. The space is relaxing with TONS of plants because its inside a garden shop. Clean, bright, smells sweet and fresh from the plants, even the music playing was good. Will absolutely be returning :^)

Update: there are no electrical outlets, so make sure your device is fully charged if you intend to do work here. 9 Tails Is a small coffee shop that recently opened on West 126 Street in Harlem. I've stopped in a couple times recently. At the moment, it appears as though they are serving basics like coffee and lattes. A small coffee will run you $2.75. The staff is very friendly. They are selling a small assortment of homemade pastries, as well. There are few tables and chairs where guests can sit work or just relax. There's a lot of natural light that enters the café space through the large, glass exterior doors that face toward 126 St. My only suggestion to the owner is to put a sign outside on the sidewalk to lure more street traffic inside. At the moment, it's very easy to walk by and not even notice the cafe.

Needed a burst of energy, so I popped in for a quick cafecito. I ordered the cortado after being greeted by the friendly young lady at the register. I was surprised my coffee was ready right after I tapped to l pay. This was my first cortado, I picked it after peeping the menu and doing a quick Google search. It delivered a strong, beautiful, bold taste exactly as expected. While walking out, I admired the plants around me, the cute cafe is tucked inside a peaceful flower shop. Next time I'll try the macchiato :) read more

This is definitely one of the more interesting coffee shops in the neighborhood. It's a little more cozy than I would like - it's like a garden inside of a hardware store that has coffee and bites. Service was fast, prices were reasonable, and good quality. I likely would not return because it's not my kind of ambiance but, I would recommend you stop by and try them out! They have communal sitting if that is your vibe. read more

Absolutely the best coffee shop in the neighborhood. I can't even tell you how much I appreciate the warmth, friendliness, and familiarity of the barista. He is just the nicest person every time I see him and makes me feel like we're personal friends - and I'm really just a random person, not like a regular he would recognize or anything. One time he was experimenting with recipes, was in a fun mood, and just felt like treating his patrons, so he went around giving everyone free lavender lattes. They were delicious, by the way. The coffee is great, the ambiance is super cool, and the music is always perfect. I love this place. read more

Dope music, nice cool spot to escape the heat and have a cold brew. I had the cold brew black and no sweetener and it tasted great. The store goes full with of the block so there are entrances on both 125th and 126th st. read more

I adore this cafe. The pastries are delicious, the vibes are great, and usually the coffee is delicious. Unfortunately my one issue is that one of the employees simply does not know how to make good coffees. When I come in and see them working, I feel like walking out rather than spending $5-6 dollars on a cappuccino. This has deterred me from going in there often. The other main barista is fantastic and makes delicious coffees. This place could be perfect if they provided training to staff so the coffee quality is consistent across the board. read more

Tucked away inside Mushtari, a plant/hardware store, this tiny coffee shop serves espresso with Café Grumpy beans. The air inside is lush with all the plants around you. Nice barista, fast service. To-go cups only, but there is some limited seating. read more

I've been going to this coffee shop off and on since it opened, I really love the staff here, and the food and coffee are excellent. I especially love their baked goods, a lot of thought is put into the recipes and you can definitely taste it. Now that they have merged with the hardware store, the coffee shop actually rests in between 125th and 126th streets, surrounded by beautiful plants. Overall a very nice vibe and definitely worth a stop! read more

I come to NYC twice a year for work. I stumbled across this place as I was using a community work place that I haven't used before. I ended up coming to this place every day I was here, and each time it was fantastic. I drink coffee black so I can appreciate the taste of coffee more. read more

fabulous way to start the day. 1/2 way down a hole in the wall btw 125 and 126 (enter either side): enter from 126 to find a plant shop that ends with coffee or come up from 125 to find a hardware/general store ending in the same. excellent coffee and friendly vibes. read more

I've tried a lot of hidden gem cafes around Harlem, but this is my favorite!! Idk what kind of coffee they use, but it's always a perfect balance in my latte. I usually stop here most weekends. The ambience is nice as well with plants covering the walls. I would not recommend working from here though as outlets are hit or miss. Pro tip: I recommend coming here for coffee and then heading to super nice donuts for the perfect pairing! read more

This might be my favorite coffee shop ever. I love the plants and beautiful pots that line the walkway as you enter the cafe. I live in Brooklyn, but am tempted to come back here to work for the day. I also loved my raspberry bear claw. read more

Great local place for coffee. I stopped in a few months ago and made a note of that they serve Tandem Coffee, which is a coffee roaster based in Portland, Maine (my hometown)! I've also tried the baked goods and have yet to be disappointed. I did find it a little strange that they didn't have almond milk as an option, but an oat milk matcha latte works just as well. It really is takeout only, there's a tiny bench in front but it's really only enough room for two small people or one large person. read more

Got an iced matcha latte yesterday - it was delicious! The matcha was blended in really well - no sediments at the end. I think this place also has plants and is connected to a hardware store...? Anyway, it all contributes to a great vibe. I'll be back for sure. They also have oat milk for my fellow non-dairy folks. read more

I live on this block and was pleasantly surprised when I noticed this place yesterday. My son and I gave it a try this morning: delicious lattes and cookies, though I wish they also served more substantial breakfast items. It's still brand new though so plenty of room for tweaks. I was also hoping to check out the area with plants that other online reviews have mentioned, but that was in the back and off-limits to customers. Service was great. There was only one person behind the counter but they were efficient and cheerful. Music was instrumental blues and not too loud for conversation. I'm very happy to have such a nice cafe near my place, and I look forward to coming here and watching it get better and better. read more
