Food and service was excellent very safe clean and delicious. Drinks are good plenty of drink options, crowd smart and sophisticated.

With the caveat that I had never had Nigerian food before this, I found the food at 805 very delicious. There are also huge portions as other reviews have said - myself and my friend both got takeaway boxes that could be another whole meal! We got the Jollof rice (slightly spicy according to someone who can't eat spicy food) and the Eforiro with yams (delicious but notably spicy by someone who loves spicy food). The palm wine is interesting to try but very very sweet. I have to contradict a lot of what other reviews have said about long wait times and unfriendly staff - Our waitress was very nice and happy to answer questions, and I would say while wait times were perhaps a bit longer than I'd like they weren't over the top. The only negative I'd say was the very loud music on in the background. It was around 8pm on a Thursday when we arrived, perhaps earlier it isn't as loud. In sum - Delicious food and would return! Am glad we went in the end as some of the bad reviews made us hesitate. Loud music, but friendly service. Recommend.

Naija food proper!!!! Had me some Eggusi soup with Aballa Tried the Jollof rice with beef, the Pounded yam and Okra soup & washed them down with some Super Malt. I lived in Nigeria for quite a while and i gotta hand it to the cook. Everything was on point. The service was awesome too. The older lady treated us like royalty even though the actual service was trying to juggle more tables than he could handle. Love it Love it Love it!!!!

Sticky toffee pudding!!! - the hidden gem of 805

Normally I would give 805 a 4/5, but my experience today was sub-par. 805 prides itself on being a stylish and contemporary option for lovers of West-African cuisine. While their food is always great, their service is lacking. This afternoon, we had to practically beg for our drinks, which came minutes after our appetizer. Now if this was a pasty shop I wouldn't be too bothered, but let's be real here, West African food is SPICY. Sadly, we had the opposite problem with our mains. They simply arrived too late, and the kitchen made two people in our party wait for an additional fifteen minutes. The devil really is in the details, and while I think 805's mission is great, it would greatly increase its appeal to non-West Africans were it to address some of its pitfalls in service. Despite my disappointment, I will of course be back on my next visit to London. I've loved their food for the past two years- joloff rice w/ mixed meat is my staple- and their sticky toffee pudding (!!!!) is simply unparalleled.

For my compatriots, what I'm about to write is a given, but for less-experienced eaters who may be misinformed, the grilled morsels of impeccably-spiced suya are Nigeria's true national food, and Alhaji is a gifted gourmand of this street-food classic. When you can visit a website that competently describes the difference between tozo beef suya and it's drier cousins in lamb and chicken, you know you're working with a winner. Better still that your purveyor is one of the brethren of Mecca, as denoted by his Alhaji status, and you know you're likely in the hands of a well-born son of Nigeria's Hausa-speaking Northern region, where suya originated. The presentation is humble and hygenic, wrapped in neat butcher's paper as opposed to the more familiar cladding od yesterday's news rags. That's the sort of attention to detail that gets you excited, and the servings themselves do not disappoint. Portions veer towards the generous without being overwhelming, and the well-sealed packs of yaji spices that accompany the meals--a unique blend of powdered peanuts, cayenne pepper and other mysterious ingredients crucial to traditional suya--can be added to your own taste. I found that half the pack created the perfect fiery counterpoint to sweet chunks of tozo, marbled with necessary fatty veins. Veterans of Naija street suya will want to go the whole metaphorical hog, but amateurs should proceed with caution. Alhaji Suya delivered their food promptly and brought some joy to my homesick heart during a brief visit to London. It won't be my last time, and if it's your first, you won't be disappointed.

The reason is the waiter/owner was grumpy and when I asked for a takeaway box for the moyin moyin he actually scowled! Wow. The moyin moyin is quite flavourful but the jollof rice is a real disappointment. I've had far better in Ghana. Two years ago: I popped into here for lunch around 1:30pm today and whilst the owner could have been friendlier in greeting me (a smile doesn't hurt ya know), I appreciated him coming outside the restaurant to hand me my takeaway food where I had waited in the lovely sun for my order. The interior is quite small with only a couple of tables with lovely African sculptures all around. There is chalkboard of specials along with the regular menu. Sadly the sweet potato balls were sold out so I got the moin moin and the spinach stew. All together less than a tenner. There are four pieces of moin moin, which are just deliciously savoury. I recommend eating them with the nonspicy spinach stew with melon seed, which, whilst not delicious, was tasty and filling. It would be perfect on a cold winter night. If I was in the area, I would return just for the moin moin!

Home away from home, couldn't be happier!…read more The Maestro has everything I miss from home, and is the perfect place to go with my Cameroonian pals when we need our big dose of home food. Everything: from Ndole to plantain fries, Chicken DG to Pepper soup (not for me though, intolerant to chili), there's everything to make us happy. It's African food, so please be patient. It takes time and you'd better not be starving when you go there. African nights tend to be quite long and boozy! :) Service wise, here again it's the perfume of Cameroon. That warmth and family touch has no equal. I know I am being subjective and some expressions may be "unwelcoming" to non-Cameroonians, and I get that. But still, this is home. With its good and bad sides, and that's why we like it. The waiter who greets you with no smile, then brings you first drink with a quarter of a smile, then the second with half a smile, then your starter, and finally a full smile when you eat the main... When it's time to hit the desert, you're so full and happy that you talk to her like your sister. Sounds strange, doesn't it? But again, that's home! They regularly have live bands playing weekends. The Maestro becomes quite literally the first stop of the night: whiskey from 6 to 9, then dinner until 11, then whiskey again until 1-2 ish before hitting an African club in Peckham or Camberwell... The Maestro has it all and just gets it. If you want a Europeanised restaurant with African food, turn around and go somewhere else... But If you want to experience a bit of Cameroon with no filter whatsoever, exactly the way it happens in some streets of Douala or Yaounde, then you are at the right place!

The food was absolutely amazing 10/10 but the only thing that threw me off a bit and made me a little uncomfortable was the customer service. Maybe it's just because I'm an American and the culture there is different because I have noticed it with a lot of restaurants in the UK, but the servers/workers are not too friendly whether the store is busy or not and everyone we tried speaking to, to get an understanding of how to order at the restaurant (since it was our first time here) kind of gave us attitude or acted like it was so annoying to ask simple questions?? Our food ended up taking more time to get ready because we didn't understand the whole call, bill, and cancel method of ordering which we tried to ask but didn't get an answer straight away. The person who finally addressed it was kinda rude about it.. Anyways, the decor inside the restaurant was really nice and it truly does give an upscale sort of vibe which is cool, but I feel like in the near future I'd prefer to just order for carry out rather than sitting inside the specific location we went to just because the food is so good but the customer service just was not it. However I've heard that different locations sometimes have better customer service so.. ‍

Suya is chargrilled meat, and at Presidential Suya they have meat from many of our furry friends, from beef to chicken to KIDNEY. I didn't try the kidney. After heating it up in the microwave, the daughter patiently explained to me that suya is spicy (as she poured more spice powder onto my meat) and should be eaten with onions and tomatoes. Except, all they had were onions. She cut those up and wrapped my meal in some paper and I took it away. I really liked it. It's barbecue beef, a little thick, and very tender. Plus, it's super spicy but a kind of spice i'm not used to. I gave only three stars because of the lack of tomatoes and the price (£4 for a hand-size piece of meat). The people there are wonderful.
