My buddy is an avid beer drinker, and he wanted to hit up a new brewery. We were in the area so we decided to stop in here. This place is located on the back side of an industrial area, not too far off the 10. Setup is pretty cool with art of video games all over the walls. They have a few Nintendo systems set up around the bar, as well as 2 full sized arcade games that take quarters. We played some Donkey Kong Jr. About that...hard freaking game...don't remember it being that difficult when I was a kid, lol! My buddy ordered a flight of beers and a pint. I was driving, so I did not partake, but my buddy said that the beers were kind of whack. Not in the sense that he hated them, but in the sense that he wouldn't come back here just for the beers. To chill, maybe....play video games, maybe...but specifically for the beer, nope! (I trust his judgement, too.) If you like beer and old school Nintendo, this may be worth a stop. Service was friendly and prices were decent, I guess. I don't think I will be returning though. read more

This is one of the best breweries in the entire state of Arizona. Easily top five. Yes, they have a video game theme and they name their beers after video game characters and they have games you can play at the taproom and etc, etc. But the reason to come here, more than anything else is the quality of their beers. I won't drink just any ol' swill because they have a fun name that appeals to my inner nerd senses. Like, I won't rave about a beer just 'cause it's called "Super Miller Lite Bros." Or "The Legend of Zima." Or "Sonic The HedgeCoors." Or "Popovkemon Go." No, the reason to come to this brewery is the fact that they make high quality, delicious beers and the fact that they come up with the craziest infusions to surprise your taste buds when you least expect it. 8-Bit Aleworks has a weekly "hacked" beer. They take a flagship beer of theirs and they infuse it with all kinds of awesome stuff like rare hops, coffee, spices cereal, fruit, fruit cereal and any other thing your nerd heart could desire. I have some friends who are traditionalists when it comes to beer. They think it shouldn't have all this added stuff because, in their opinion, that isn't "real beer." If I brought those friends to 8-Bit Aleworks they'd have a legit heart attack. But hey, it's their loss. As far as I'm concerned, you can add whatever you want to a beer as long as it tastes good. And the brewer for 8-Bit sure does know what tastes good. Be adventurous with your drinking. Because there's nothing more boring than sobriety. read more

I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and her parents for some afternoon drinks. 8 bit Ale works is located in a random business park and doesn't have a large sign so it may be difficult to find. Once you do find it though, you will be glad you did. The inside of this place consists of a large bar surrounded by tables with 8 bit video themed games stuff on all of the walls. 3 of the tables have video game consoles, 2 NES and a 1 Super NES. You can play the game that is in the console or you can look at the list of games on the bar and exchange your game for another. Whenever we got there we choose the console with super Mario bros and also went through RC Pro AM and Super Mario Bros. 3. I digress though as what brought me here was the beer. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery I went with their sampler which for $7.50 included their 4 flagship beers. It had the white mage (wit), black mage (stout), hopsassins creed (session IPA) and Legend of Zymur (double IPA). Then I also tried to get a 4 oz. addition of a Press Start (honey brown) but the bartender and I got our wires crossed and I ended up with a pint. So we shall call it a happy accident as I didn't mind drinking it. Honestly I was having such a blast playing the video games with my wife that I didn't register the beers as much as I normally did. All of them did taste how you would think that their styles would with my favorites unsurprisingly being the Double IPA and session IPA. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. As a matter of a fact I mentioned to my wife that if we lived in the area I would come back at least monthly. The beer here was good and I loved that this was a great combination of things I loved in my childhood (video games) and now in adulthood (beer). read more

8-Bit Aleworks is a chill casual brewery located in Avondale and has a Super Mario theme and some other old school arcade items such as pac man. We got two of their beer flights, the standard one and the seasonal, and both gave a good variety of brews to sample. Our large group played some of the card games the brewery offers and had a good time. They do not serve food but you are welcomed to bring any outside food you like. Love the old school video decor here. Everything is done in pixels! The table decorations are so cute! Now into the beer.....good beer! We had a flight +1. Their beer is worth trip out from the east valley. The IPA were great. Some of best IPAs we have had in Arizona. Alley had an enjoyable time. Everyone was friendly. She enjoyed the cool floor and the video games. She liked the the consoles on tables and the old school games. Eric was the bartender on shift and he was awesome. Alley adored him. Coming from flagstaff to Tucson. I went out of my way to stop by and grab a few 6 packs of the White Ale. My favorite beer , but when I walked in carrying my dog , the lame ass bartender said, health department would be all over them if they got caught. Didn't know you sold food also. I was holding my 10 pound family dog while my wife grabbed the beer. Bartender said if one of us go back outside with the dog at 110 degree temperature. It was very disappointing being at a brewery. Where 95% of breweries are dog friendly; this was the first time a brewery that didn't sell food, told me to take my dog outside and he had the nerve to ask if I wanted to leave a tip. 8 Bit has some great beers & love the atmosphere. Very fun, funky & low key. It is tucked away in an industrial area off the main road. So don't give up you'll find it. I promise. We were there for the first time on a Wednesday evening & the bar was full but there were plenty of table space & games if you felt so inclined. I'm not a fan of IPA's however the Princes is a Peach IPA & it's yum-my. I even brought home one of their little growlers. They do have a beer dinner coming up next week at $50 pp for 5 courses that include the beer pairings. So go enjoy. read more

The graphics may be 8-bit but the beer flavor is full HD. Hidden deep in an industrial park is 8 bit, it took us a bit of looking to find but with modern smart phones you wont be too lost. Walk in and it is a true taproom and brewery, tables a bar and beer, no more, no less. The fire flower table decorations, NES tap handles and 8bit style art had me nostalgic for the good old days. The beer made me remember how it is nice to be grown up and able to enjoy a quality beer. I tried the dark mage, their stout. It was great, not to sweet or bitter a full body and great flavor, a balance that can be hard to find in the micro brew scene. I decided to use my extra life and switch teams to the white mage, a wit again full of flavor but nothing too offensive or off balance. This place is fun, grab a few drinks with the friends, maybe not a date place but more of a guys hang out. Keep an eye out for their beer as it is quality. read more

This place is out in the middle of no where but it's very cool. The owners are a couple and they're really friendly. There's 8-bit art all over the walls that's handpainted by a friend/artist they know and it's cool. The names of the beers are named after video game stuff. I had the full flight of 8 beers and it was $18. That's solid and what I expect as they brew and store all their beer there on location. There was a few beers I had that were really, really amazing. I think the best thing was a sour stout. Yeah, I've never even heard of such a thing and yet they totally brewed it. It was awesome. I mean, talk about the best of both worlds! Crazy good and this says a lot about the brewing skills. They totally encourage you to bring your own food in too from other places or your own stuff. I also saw a table playing a board game. I am perhaps not the right demographic. I mean don't get me wrong, I loved my original Atari and Nintendo with the best of em (bought my own with my first paper route money). However, the music from those games, while nostalgic, isn't exactly good listening. Zelda was playing when we walked in, and we thought "oh that's fun and pretty cool"...then Mario played, then Mario cart, then another and another. My thoughts quickly changed from "oh this is cool" to oh my goodness are they going to play any real music. I guess I just figured old game music would play every once in a while in between some good music.....um, not the case. Ok now the beer. Well, not a lot to rave about here for me either. Now that doesn't mean it's not for you. I happen to not be an IPA Guy. I do not want to see how many IBUs my palette can handle, and it seems like most of what I tasted was heading in the punch you in the mouth direction. If old gaming music and funky IBUs are your thing than this might be the place for you. For me, it will not be my regular stop. If friends are going and ask I would go but this won't be in my suggestion profile. I can have beer that is better, certainly on par, in an environment that is more pleasing to the senses including my taste buds. read more

Really enjoyed the black mage (their stout), the bartender was wonderfully helpful and great to talk to, and their 8-bit theme is cute and fun. Sometimes arcade bars use the video game theme and a fun environment to distract from mediocre beer. But not here: 8-Bit's passion for both video games AND beer is obvious. Best brewery in Phoenix. Coming from a home brewer who has been to hundreds of breweries in almost every state in the USA, this is one of my favorites. Whenever I'm in the area, I go way out of my way to bring cans back to my friends at home. The owner of this establishment is a goddamned genius, ostensibly doing his own brewing, artwork, bartending, daily operations, and everything. I've found that the best beer I've had in the USA is often originating from the singular, committed vision of one brewer/artist/entrepreneur.
